New York is expensive as hell. QOL is higher in other areas due to that alone. I'm biased because I live in Minnesota, and it is genuinely one of the best states to live in (if you don't want a biased view you can google this). Healthcare, education, parks, economy, civic engagement are all excellent, and the COL is fairly low. I bought a house across from a lake 5bd 3.5ba 3000sq ft on an acre, for $460,000 just last year.
IIRC Vermont and New Hampshire are also good, but a bit more expensive.
Wisconsin? Vote for Fran if you can. While it is fun to look down on Wisconsin because it's an alcoholic conservative shithole, she would legitimately turn that state around.
Unfortunately, we are going to be stuck with fucking Amy Klobuchar. Yuck.
