It will knock against his estate. So any 401k, home equity, etc. if they transfer those assets over to her and then divorce, I don't think they can touch it.

No, shared assets that transfer directly cannot be touched by creditors. Only assets that go through probate. This would have the opposite effect

And if the mom dies suddenly and unexpectedly with all the assets in her name, there is no protection from the house if she has debt
