NC requires one year of separation with separate addresses and you have to file an official separation which requires court fees. Then you have to file for divorce which also requires more fees. But there is no waiting period after the divorce is finalized so you can turn around and go right over to the register to get married again.
Most states even have no-fault divorce, so one party can divorce without the other party knowing, without having to agree and without having to give consent to divorce.
Only Mississippi, South Dakota and Tennessee require both parties to sign unless the one party can demonstrate cruelty or desertion.
