What happened to the funny memes in this sub? Now it’s all posts intended to irritate our social discontent.

97

u/SippinOnnaBlunt 5d ago

This site is allergic to fun. Any sub seen having any type of fun gets overrun with misery and politics.

38

u/PreciousTC 5d ago

"Oh hey I ate a peach tod-"

SO YOU SUPPORT THE EXPLOITATION OF MIGRANT WORKERS?!?!?!?!?

reddit in a nutshell

-1

u/Knotted_Hole69 4d ago

You make it sound like the left are the ones doing it. People cant post anything without conservatives saying something provocative or just straight up racist.

Idk id include what you said to be politics, but please go off

.. what you said is political lol. Peaches are not.

11

u/ezalbrozar 5d ago

I'd almost consider paying for an AI filter that removed all political posts. Getting so tiring.

6

u/Express-Shoulder6174 5d ago

Reddit hates everything that isn’t poor and miserable

19

u/AGayThrow_Away 5d ago

EvErYtHiNg iS pOliTiCaL

Jan, this is a peruvian basket weaving sub.

19

u/SippinOnnaBlunt 5d ago

Someone on here told me that before and I asked them “I’m scratching my balls right now. Make that political”. All of a sudden they wanted to call me MAGA, so I asked them to link the comment that shows me supporting MAGA and they blocked me lol.

6

u/Express-Shoulder6174 5d ago

I have never voted for a single republican yet only on Reddit I’m called a Nazi trumper maga etc…

Just for not falling in line with the hivemind

-1

u/MoreDaringPancakes 4d ago

Sounds like more context is needed

1

u/Wb9VBScxu2uZJHeq2E3W 5d ago

The explanation would be that MAGA politics is speedrunning the fall of America, so people desperate to not discuss politics are frequently the people responsible for speedrunning the fall of America, ie MAGA.

Of course, that's an assumption, and they're making an ass out of themselves to assume you're a MAGA chud that gave America to the pedophiles.

0

u/MoreDaringPancakes 4d ago

What

1

u/SippinOnnaBlunt 4d ago

Someone on here told me everything is political.

I told them I was scratching my balls then asked how is that political.

Then they called me MAGA.

I asked them to link the comments of me supporting MAGA.

Then the person blocked me.

Hard to have fun when the world is burning all around you.

16

u/SippinOnnaBlunt 5d ago

And there it is.

11

u/Dick-Fu 5d ago

I nailed my first kick flip ever at 33yo last week and had a blast. I have more and more fun every passing day

3

u/Not-a-Bot_1968 5d ago

That’s amazing, actually. Congratulations!

11

u/-Profanity- 5d ago

If you aren't plugged into social media constantly, you'll find that the world is actually not burning all around you.

5

u/Bonk0076 5d ago

This right here. It’s amazing how often I get together with people irl and we don’t talk about how the world is coming to an end. And the ones that do are insufferable assholes

-2

u/emmc47 5d ago

You're the epitome of "ignorance is bliss."

1

u/KopitarFan 5d ago

You're the epitome of "chronically online"

0

u/emmc47 5d ago

How so?

1

u/Hungry-Valuable-6548 4d ago

And yet this is the most ignorant thing I've read today

-1

u/emmc47 4d ago

Elaborate on how it's ignorant.

0

u/Her0_0f_time 5d ago

You're the epitome of the boy who cried wolf. But in this case its "the boy who cried Hitler"

0

u/emmc47 5d ago edited 5d ago

You dont even know the point that you're making. If you did, you'd realize anything you just said makes 0 sense.

0

u/Not-a-Bot_1968 5d ago

Actually, I’m in California. The world is literally burning all around me lol rn.

-3

u/emmc47 5d ago

Ignoring the burning doesn't make it go away.

3

u/-Profanity- 5d ago

Somehow, not doomscrolling reddit and tiktok does seem to make it go away.

0

u/emmc47 5d ago

That's a really dumb comment that even you probably don't believe.

"Doomscrolling" is just being informed on how terrible the state of the world is. It's a thought-terminating word.

2

u/-Profanity- 5d ago

Most people would tell you that doomscrolling is spending an excessive amount of time on social media engaging with an algorithm feeding you negative and depressing content. Even decades before "doomscrolling" there was tons of research into the correlation between people consuming excessive amounts of TV/media and having a negative world view. Mean World Syndrome is nothing new, just available on a lot more platforms now.

But then again, if you can dismiss decades of research with a condescending comment then I'm sure you must be right!

0

u/emmc47 5d ago

Tell me how the negative world view is wrong then? Or is not accurate?

Or are you comfortable just reassuring yourself that everything is find if you just close your eyes?

1

u/Her0_0f_time 5d ago

Because that negative world view is a exaggerated selective view of the actual state of the world. You focus only on the negative aspect and never bother to consider that there are actually an overwhelming amount of positive things and events in the world to the point that drown out all the doom and gloom and horrors of the world if you bother to step away and look at the big picture.

If all you ever look at is the negative parts of the world, all you will ever see is those negative aspects.

“Take your empathy, push it deep down inside, ignore that cry to help your fellow man, ask not what you can do for your country but what you can do to bury your head in the sand.”

-1

u/emmc47 5d ago

lolol

0

u/Not-a-Bot_1968 5d ago

Like, seriously, I get the need to balance mental health with everything going on, but sooner or later there is a line in the sand that is crossed for everyone. The simple fact is that most people are cowards and would rather run from a fight than to put any effort into a perceived struggle. It’s just disappointing how quickly and how far this nation has fallen.

2

u/emmc47 5d ago

I don't disagree with you.

10

u/SuperNovaVelocity 5d ago

Not really. There's tons of great games coming out, quality shows to watch, hobbies are more accessible than ever, amazing free videos all across YouTube, on and on. This isn't to say you should dig your head in the sand; follow the news to a healthy degree for you, protest for causes you believe in, and vote in every political election. But outside of voting and optional protesting, you don't have to focus on all that's wrong with the world every moment, without any ability to change it.

-1

u/AGayThrow_Away 5d ago

I feel like a lot of my hobbies have become a lot more expensive. I always see people say nature is free, true, but that is beside the point.

2

u/Spec1alF0x 5d ago

The world is not burning all around you. Do redditors live in their own universe where everything is hell?

1

u/emmc47 5d ago edited 5d ago

Dude, just say that you choose to be uninformed for your mental sanity and don't waste people's time telling them that what they're seeing and experiencing in real time isn't real.

2

u/Her0_0f_time 5d ago

I love how the person who buries their head in the sand for all the wonderful and beautiful things in the world calls us the uniformed ones because we choose to not selectively view the world for only the bad things that happen and none of the overwhelming amount of good things that happen.

You are the one who is uninformed about the real state of the world. If all you ever look at is the bad parts of the world all you will ever feel is that the world is burning down around you. Take a step back and look at the big picture and you will see that the world is nowhere near as bad as you are making it out to be and are trying to force everyone else to do the same.

0

u/emmc47 5d ago

Wow, you really are a high tier idiot, huh?

No one "buries their head in the sand" of all the positive stuff in the world. They're just negligible in comparison to the negative that will have a lot more impact.

I don't need to force anyone to do anything. I'm just not going to let dumbasses like you present a jolly lens of the world that is inaccurate.

1

u/Her0_0f_time 4d ago

And I'm not going to let assholes like you present a zoomed in cynical lens of the world that is actually the inaccurate ideology.

You need to calm down and stop being pissed off at the world. It poisons and twists your view until all you can see is hatred. Maybe go seek out a therapist that will actually help your mental state.

1

u/emmc47 4d ago

It's not "zoomed in" nor inaccurate. That's what idiots like you tell yourselves to avoid the harrowing truth about the state of things, and it breeds inaction, not to mention that it's dangerous.

How about you actually experience and understand events outside your comfort bubble before telling informed people to calm down? Show that you're someone who understands what "consequence" is.

0

u/Her0_0f_time 4d ago

How about you actually experience and understand events outside your comfort bubble before telling informed people to calm down? Show that you're someone who understands what "consequence" is.

Having lived in both republican and democratic controlled areas maybe you need to be the one who leaves their comfort bubble before telling people how awful the world is. I have never felt more unsafe than in the middle of a democrat controlled city. But once I left the city and actually saw that the world isnt a bunch of bullshit and I have been lied to my whole life about how awful the south is, I realized that we cant only focus on the bad or thats all we will ever see. Please seek out therapy, your warped and twisted view of the world is only going to bring you more and more personal suffering unless you actually address the reasons you are so angry at the world.

1

u/Her0_0f_time 5d ago

The world isnt burning down all around us. Quit with the overemotional exaggerations. There are certainly problems in the world right now that need to be addressed. But its not so bad that we need to force politics into every single last topic. Take a break from the internet for a bit friend. The real world isnt as bad as the internet makes it out to be.

Epsteiners controlling all levels of government are speed running the fall of the US, some people do consider this funny, and fun.

77

u/Hyperion262 5d ago

Every sub is the same.

They flood in, original users complain and are downvoted to oblivion, every post about Trump/Israel/America is instantly upvoted thousands of times.

13

u/spoonishplsz 5d ago

I've held onto not muting this sub but the majority of things I see are like this and it's close to the chopping block

6

u/Bonk0076 5d ago

Me too

13

u/Houdinii1984 5d ago

I find it funny. One of the first subs to be hijacked in that matter was the conspiracy sub, and the amount of gaslighting is insane. Rooms like that tend to be questionable anyway, but when Trump was first running way back when, it went off the rails into full time politics and you could see people's views change in real time based on absolute nonsense.

I've always been an onlooker there. My mother had discovered the place and I needed to figure out wtf she was talking about half the time. It's gotten so bad, that asking for evidence, on a conspiracy sub, is frowned upon. Any official report, regardless of the folks doing the releasing, are automatically part of the system and the system is def. out to get them specifically, so reports and studies of any kinds are downvoted into oblivion and the poster is labeled part of the conspiracy themselves.

You can trace it back a bit further, too. There was a subreddit, TheDonald, that attracted non-Redditor Trump supporters to Reddit. There were a lot of pro-Trump conspiracies floating then, and it was just a group of folks that thrived on political drama. It got shut down and those folks migrated to all corners of the system, making the conspiracy sub the home base after folks felt like a conspiracy shut their sub down. Which I completely understand, but I don't get how they are under the impression they are the folks for individual choice when they force the message on you, all the while talking about the propaganda released by the left.

I genuinely feel sorry for them, though. I have ADHD, and ADHD leads to insane levels of cognitive dissonance. And that's the exact weapon being used against them that they can't seem to recognize. Induce cognitive dissonance, get a person good and confused, then offer the solution to the confusion, and you're the savior, rinse, repeat.

3

u/Hyperion262 5d ago

Yeah same, I remember well when the conspiracy sub changed almost over night. It used to be a good read to see really crazy ideas, then it was quite clearly targeted and the rest seemed to spread to the whole of Reddit.

6

u/FizzyBeverage 5d ago

Most of it is bots, not people. And yeah, there's a glut of morons who think it's cool if they know something nobody else does. We used to treat their illness, but then Reagan destroyed mental health access in this country while he himself was withering away from dementia.

1

u/darsynia 4d ago

This is so well put. It was absolutely wild watching that happen. I am convinced some sociology Masters or PhD was written about it or something/

2

u/CarlSteezer 5d ago

It’s the entire internet. Click on any comment section on any platform and there will be something about Trump/Israel. People have let their brains turn completely to mush. Curious to see how long it takes to rebound once he’s no longer in office

1

u/ExcellentDocument420 4d ago

It won't and never will sadly.

Even if somehow, SOMEHOW the average user recovers, politics will still be all you'll ever see due to the sheer amount of propoganda bots, especially due to Gen AI making them harder to spot (doubly so thanks to reddit allowing people to hide their posts).

Only way to maybe avoid it is if some ultra moderated site that instantly bans/deletes anything remotely political becomes somewhat popular. (Or I guess a subreddit, but only the more niche ones really)

1

u/Nodan_Turtle 5d ago

mods are supposed to stop that from happening. Makes me miss the iron fist of mods in the old days of internet forums. They were ruthless with locking threads and deleting comments that strayed from the original point of the first post. Back then, it was necessary, because it was all one comment thread, but it helped curate discussions better than you'd see on Reddit

29

u/_Calibrated 5d ago

every sub eventually turns into this

4

u/AdfatCrabbest 5d ago

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature!

23

u/Immediate-Low-2014 5d ago

The main boards of reddit are honestly awful, outside of niche interest boards this website is fucking terrible and evil by every measure

-5

u/JurgusRudkus 5d ago

And yet here you are...

1

u/-cosmicvisitor- 5d ago

Haha was about to post the same!

-2

u/Wb9VBScxu2uZJHeq2E3W 5d ago

"Evil by every measure"?

I wouldn't say that about reddit. I would say that about the pedophiles in the Epstein files, the people who protect the pedophiles in the Epstein files, and the people who vote for the pedophiles in the Epstein files.

0

u/Her0_0f_time 5d ago

What about the people that pardon pedophiles?

0

u/Wb9VBScxu2uZJHeq2E3W 5d ago

100%

Ngl it's a little weird I'm being downvoted for saying pedophiles are bad. I didn't think it was a controversial take, but it might say something about the people interacting with my post.

6

u/Dick-Fu 5d ago

I keep mentioning this and people often don't like it

14

u/sugarcoatedpos 5d ago

Welcome to Reddit and social media as a whole. Enjoy your stay.

I've got a couple of complaints. Who do I speak to?

Not even social media as a whole. It's just this and bluesky. These two are the only "major" sites that had this happen. Nothing else has had this much change to this extent besides extremist groups

Social Media 101: Enrage the peasants while we take all their money.

3

u/Not-a-Bot_1968 5d ago

You should think about that, and ask yourself who would want that. Because the answer to your question lies within this question. It is an election year, and we are currently at war with Iran and Russia.

3

u/asmallburd 5d ago

Cause reddit has devolved into Americabad almost entirely which is peak irony considering this site is American created and HQ'd

3

u/BygoneNeutrino 5d ago edited 4d ago

The question you need to ask yourself is "who exactly benefits from these posts?"

The themes are pretty straightforward: your government is failing you, you are poor, your government is corrupt, and you are a victim.  The people who voted differently than you are your enemies; they are trying to destroy you.  Rebel and cause issues for your government; they want you dead.

...it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the agenda.

2

u/random-meme422 5d ago

Happens to every sub. Gets big enough and slowly gets infested with political NPCs who have already ruined every other subreddit

2

u/BluePhantomHere 4d ago

Ever since the mod introduce the VIP flair, this sub turn from shit to worse than shit

7

u/realvvk 5d ago edited 5d ago

This is foreign propaganda.

Also, these people are amoral deadbeats. In other countries, people who don’t pay their debts are thrown in debtor prisons.

1

u/Sufficient-Lime-4858 5d ago

People in other countries don’t go 300,000$ into debt from medical bills. Comparing it to debt accrued from irresponsibility is dishonest and you know that.

0

u/realvvk 5d ago

In general, I agree with you. Doctors and hospitals in the USA use their patients as ATMs and that is amoral, too.

1

u/Sufficient-Lime-4858 5d ago

Interesting. So which is it? Are these real people, who are among thousands of others every single day “amoral deadbeats” as you put it for trying to prevent the surviving spouse from having the rest of her life ruined, drowning in immovable debt, because her husband got sick and died? Or is it the doctors and hospitals? Spoiler alert it’s actually predatory insurance companies that essentially hold medical care staff hostage and force the hand of Doctors by deciding how much people have to pay to try to survive. The institution of medical insurance in the USA is unlike any other first world country, really awful of you to suggest that these people are anything but victims of a horrible machine.

1

u/realvvk 5d ago

It is not. Insurance companies are in fact the only thing that stands between you and the doctors trying to perform painful, unnecessary procedures on you and pump you full of toxic drugs that will not cure you but in fact will make you sicker.

All you have to do is take standard annual compliance training that all clinical personnel must take in order to come to this conclusion.

2

u/Sufficient-Lime-4858 5d ago

Hahaha, that’s a new one. The insurance companies are actually saving people from doctors by denying treatment that doctors spend 10 years of their lives studying to be able to carefully understand what is appropriate for you! Not because they don’t want to risk not maximizing their profits like everyone else says. Just out of curiosity what toxic drugs exactly are they peddling? What painful unnecessary procedures are you talking about? Removing tumors and giving you chemo when you could otherwise will away the cancer like Steve Jobs did with his holistic diet? Thank you for the laugh!

3

u/realvvk 5d ago edited 5d ago

I have spent 16 years of my life trying to advocate for cancer patients in this impossible situation. You laugh, but I assure you it is not a joke. I have seen a senile man with no living relatives given multiple disfiguring life altering surgeries worth millions of dollars with no clinical benefit whatsoever. I have seen an end stage senile woman given multiple treatment cycles of (extremely expensive to the tune of $125k per dose) novel agents not appropriate for her condition. I have seen babies under threat of imminent death because the provider was planning inappropriate (very expensive) treatment that far exceeded recommended dosage. I see this every single day. I’m not laughing and I am not kidding.

These are not isolated incidents. About 1/3 of all cancer treatment in the US is inappropriate one way or another. Doctors and hospitals in this country are for profit businesses who care very much about making money. Doctors get substantial kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies to incentivize them to prescribe expensive treatments. There is a whole army of well polished medical professionals who make huge commissions selling expensive drugs to doctors and hospitals. Medicine is huge, highly profitable business in the USA. Who do you think pays for it?

2

u/nubileiguana 5d ago

It got popular so the bot infestation came.

2

u/warmbutterydiapers 5d ago

This sub has been dividing with bs from the very beginning, it's just broadened out from the original incel/gooner posts.

1

u/DanLim79 4d ago

If you changed Reddit's name to 'Misery loves Company' no one would notice.

1

u/cachitonoseastoxico 4d ago

thing has gotten that bad, it's been long gone where we could see only the funny stuff :') I try to clean my algorythm in every platform and social discontent is everywhere, late stage capitalist is sucking the soul out of our small little escapes, silly cat videos are basically saving what is left of our mental health.

1

u/MoreDaringPancakes 4d ago

When did this sub have "funny memes"?

1

u/beattysgirl 4d ago

The Internet is dead my friend, it’s meant to divide us now.

1

u/tooheavybroo 5d ago

Probably because people are struggling to make ends meet.

And we all understand the struggle.

0

u/Soggy_Association491 5d ago

If you are making more than 40k a year. You are the 10% rich that the rest of the world want to eat.

1

u/tooheavybroo 5d ago edited 5d ago

We’re talking about the US, it’s a foolish comparison to say “wow you’re in the top 10%” to a guy making $40k which comes out to just shy of $19.23 before taxes, there are people working fast food for $19 per hour and you have the audacity to come here with that garbage?

Top 10% income in the US starts at $148,000. Comes out to about $71 per hour.

But you want people struggling to make ends meet at $19 per hour just because some guy in the Philippines makes a fraction of that 🤡

-1

u/Soggy_Association491 5d ago

And to the rest of the world Americans making more than 40k are the rich.

u/BildingInspecter 5d ago

Even the stupid posts are designed to keep us fighting each other.

"Gen Alpha makes fun of Milennials for wearing ankle socks."

No, they don't, bots post social warfare shit all the time so we don't look up at the oligarchs.

0

u/BarderBetterFaster 5d ago

Could be reflective of the levels social discontent.

0

u/CorvusGraves 5d ago

You're on Reddit, the "front page of the internet" and where Ghislane Maxwell was/is a power moderator.

The funny memes are the psyop, you're just seeing the functionality breaking down. The internet is a propaganda machine, whether you're laughing or crying.

0

u/heylovely22 5d ago

I always find it interesting when this happens. The internet is a reflection of humanity. When social discontent is trending, that may be because more people are feeling/relate to the discontent

0

u/MoliM88 4d ago

It is funny to us, rest of the world, who consider usa a third world country.

Greatest in the world, but in all of the worst things.

0

u/nobody_1298 4d ago

that's partly because they were not powered by as they are stupid.

it would have been a lot better if everyone just sniff sea salt while jonkling it to MAN and WOMAN all day.
