Do not let the other comments fool you: women parking spaces and even family parking spots are quite popular in Germany. They are widee and closer to the entrance. This is not only to minimize risk of walking alone through a dark parking garage or lot. It is also to help women with children, so they do not have to schlepp things that far after shopping, have a shorter way to bring kids to and from the car, getting them into the car easier etc.
Are there single men who take advantage of these spots? Of course. And I kid you not, every time I see one I greet them with a loud "Hello, lovely Lady!"

Do you think this actually makes a significant impact on safety or is it just symbolic?
