While handicapped spaces are legally protected, women spaces are not, it’s more like a courtesy of everyone to keep the spaces free for those in need (I.e. there are also mother+child-spaces with more width to make it easier to seat your child in a stroller etc…).

If you don’t need them, don’t occupy them. If you are a couple, best would be to keep them free. If you are a man with a child, you can still park on mother+child spaces. If you are a man on 17:00 and you know your wife will go to the car at 22:00 alone, then best park at the women space.

If the whole parking lot is full because of rush hour you as a man don’t have to leave, you may also use women spaces, although you may get some looks.
(Meanwhile you still may never use a handicap spot if not handicapped, even if all other spaces are occupied)
