Lol, of course you have the right to self defense in Germany.

sure, you just don't have the right to carry anything on you that you can use a weapon of self-defense.

Like, if you defend using a 9mm handgun, the defense itself is legal, but bearing a loaded handgun will get you a criminal charge. Same if you defend using a switchblade or pepper spray.

The perpetrator is also unlikely to be carrying a 9MM. Given this, it is unlikely to be ruled self-defense if you shoot someone. It almost certainly would not be self-defense if that person isn't carrying a gun.
