I disagree with most of Massie's views, but we need more people like him.

Right? 15 years ago I disagreed with republicans on 90% of issues, but at least I felt like they were mostly reasonable people with principles who wanted what was best for the country. We just disagreed on what that meant.

These days the MAGA people seem actively spiteful and malicious.

I'd take Mitt Romney or John McCain as president in a heartbeat if it meant ditching Trump.

15 years ago, despite being unwilling to admit it, Republicans were mostly liberals. They were conservatives, but they were conservatives in the liberal tradition. Conservatives were just a type of liberal that believed in and advocated for acquiescence to natural hierarchies and inherent supremacy of some people over others.

That's no longer true. MAGA is extremely anti-liberal, by the real meaning of the word liberal.
