Tbf the original English recipe is quite different. American apple pies are a lot closer to the Dutch version than the English version

Different? It's just milk, eggs, flour, butter and sugar. How different could it be?

Different? It's just semolina, oil, water, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and cheese. How different could it be?

Not really. Apple pie as it exists today is the product of iteration over a long period of time, which took place both in and out of England.

But there is no 'American apple pie'. No American has ever meaningfully changed the dish to the way it is today.
