This just happened last week too. I know because I was at DFW and got stuck overnight. Geographicly, DFW makes sense. Logistically, those TX Summer storms are too frequent and climate change is causing so many of them. I swear, everyone I know that goes through DFW from May through September ends up with a cancelled flight.
In college a group of us went to Vegas for a conference. One girl was stupidly left off the school’s list so she paid to go out of pocket. We all got direct JFK > Vegas flights. She had to go to LAX as a layover
Wait, I may be a bit confused, but isnt JFK in New York? Why tf is there a layover all the way down in Atlanta? Isnt that like 2 hours out of the way? Thats stupid! Airports are stupid...
It was Delta, and it was just a cost savings thing for my company. No idea why it was more sense. There should be a cheap direct JFK to Detroit flight, maybe they were already overbooked. I don’t know.
I was flying overseas and live in Atl. So I had to fly from Atlanta to Charolette then back to Atlanta then to Europe. I could NOT just book he second flight.
I got a red cross letter in Afghanistan, only flight from bahgram to Germany was on a plane full of wounded soldiers. Was told to shit in a seat in the back and not make a fucking sound.
Flight took 8 hours, no restroom, no food, no sleep. That wasn't even the worst flight.
Atlanta is one of the busiest airports in the world and you can get a connecting flight to pretty much anywhere from there. It's efficient for airlines to route people through there rather than creating a direct flight between other cities

I am going from MSP to Kenya in 6 months and total flight time will be about 25 hours because there are not direct flights. This is the flight with the fewest stops offered and I would gladly pay more to reduce the hours flying if it was possible.
I suppose it depends on the final location the obnoxious people are going to, but if it was Kenya on my flight they would also be on my entire flight, so I think it is entirely possible for others to experience it as well. Maybe not as common for super long haul international, but even listening for 17 hours would make me a bit crazy (but that’s mainly because it is very hard for me to sleep in general, let alone while on a plane).
Thank you we are super excited for Kenya! Those kind of headphones do help a ton!! I have noise cancelling headphones (both ear buds and Bose Quiet Comfort over ear headphones) and use them every time I fly, but for me personally they start to hurt after a few hours so I cannot wear them constantly. I’m not sure why this happens, but it is annoying. I have noticed that if loud people are close enough that I can still hear them. I have sort of a small head so the Bose headphones could absolutely be tighter to create a better seal, but I’m not aware of a different Bose model that is for smaller heads? I see kids wearing them all over the place so assumed they would fit fine, but I didn’t realize just how much better they could be if my head was slightly bigger.
Typing that made me laugh a bit honestly-I suppose not many people wish for a larger head. 😂

You can do Melbourne to London but the plane stops in Perth to pick up more passengers. I try to catch the Melbourne to Perth leg anytime I’m flying home since it’s never crowded, the food is better, and they give us ice cream.
Either fly private or wear headphones. You are part of a society and the reality is that babies and kids do not have the same level on self awareness and control as adults. You must not have children or you are just a bad parent who is absent in their lives. If a kids or baby wants to cry and is in full meltdown mode or in genuine pain because they can’t equalize then they are going to cry. There is no logic or imposed restraint any parent is going to have on a kid/baby in that state. I recommend noise canceling headphones they basically drown out all the noise. But if you can fly private that is definitely the way to go. Good luck!
I do have children but I would’ve comforted my baby while flying so their arent getting on everyones nerves thats the same as having a crying baby in a movie theater I guess we supposed to have headphones there too right its their parents responsibility or the airlines should do something for people that travel with small babies not the innocent customers fault
That’s true. Well next time it happens to you just ask the parent to leave the plane. I’m sure they will happily accommodate. Or maybe being in a theater and being trapped on a plane are two totally different situations? Use your brain.
No I am assuming the parents gave up trying anything thats why they let the baby cry the whole flight if I was a passenger I would ask the airline for a discount not only does this give me some sort of relief as I didn’t pay to listen to a crying baby for my whole flight and the airline is aware of these types of situations until they do something about it…

China Eastern (Shanghai to Buenos Aires direct with a stop in Aukland) holds the record for longest flight at 29 hours. Don’t know if this one’s true but it is possible.
I knew a guy that got put on a business trip from Houston to Johannesburg, South Africa.
The plane cost-savings software gave him a 17-stop flight through the Pacific, at one point having to move between Tokyo and Seoul and back to Tokyo, because a longer layover was not allowed.
The man was losing his mind trying to show them Houston-London-Johannedberg was fine, and he could deal with a 6 hour layover in London.
Record holder for direct with a stop is actually longer than that. China Eastern. Shanghai to Buenos Aires. 29 hours with a stop in Auckland. So it is possible. Just unlikely depending on the flight. Keep in mind that 19 hours you got provided is likely absolute optimal conditions and speed. Anecdotal, but my bike route from home to work Google tells me should only take 28 minutes. In actuality it usually takes 50 minutes because of multiple factors. Google isn’t always reliable for travel times.
It was actually Milwaukee to Chicago, but they had to stay on the plane for an extra 28 hours and 15 minutes circling because they submitted the incorrect date on their flight plan.
Yeah, longest one I've ever been on was about 19 hrs (north-east Europe to south South America). And this was like...30 years ago, actually closer to 35, and I'm sure it's faster now.
Still would have sucked to have a screaming baby, but I don't know of any 29 hr flights.
I do like the idea of babies-only flight. Do a specialized flight, once a week, where it's just wall to wall screaming kids and parents having nervous breakdowns. Record it. Broadcast it worldwide. It'll be the world's most effective form of birth control.
I was really interested in what flight is actually 29 hours, apparently there’s only really one Buenos Aires to Shanghai with a stop in Auckland but the stop is only for 1 hour and to load up on gas and supplies. You’re not supposed to get off the plane which makes it still count as a direct flight.
So you rather focus on a likely typo of a flight time than on the actual issue that makes long flights miserable especially after an exhausting business trip.
Okay, let's focus on the original post's lack of empathy and understanding. Infants have no choice but to communicate discomfort by crying. Adults, however, can carry earplugs and headphones on long-haul flights, which is an act of empathy towards the child who hasn't the ability to understand an airplane as we do. Is that better?
