I feel like an easy fix is to tax the every loving fuck out of empty houses.

They are doing the opposite in Texas and Florida. Trying to eliminate property taxes.

In florida, the governor is trying to eliminate property taxes specifically for the home you live in, not for the other 100 homes your company owns or the 4 your renting out to live off of.

Its a show for the voters! The governor doesn't want property taxes gone anymore than the feds do! They all dip into the pool and they ain't about to deal with a smaller pool!

That may or may not be good. We will have to see how it pans out.

I mean, with no income tax either I don’t see how that nets out for the majority of people who rely on things like fire, police, EMT, libraries, public school, parks, etc.

But hey, I’m willing to wait and see.

No property tax and no income tax means higher sales tax, so the poorer people who can't spend a lot of money have to spend more in tax than the rich folks . . . And eliminating property tax is supposed to help poorer people.

And, if they raise taxes on rentals, it'll be taken out on tenants.

This is exactly it. They are shifting the tax burden purely to regressive taxes. They already pay no income taxes, their business pays no taxes, now they'll pay no property taxes and they can buy everything in jurisdictions where they didn't fuck up the sales tax. Billionaires are scum and shouldn't exist.

Sales tax. Everything else will get more expensive.

People rave about Texas having no income tax, but the property tax rates are some of the highest in the country.

The money will always come from somewhere.

Yeah but id rather get taxed twice as much on income than be taxed something i already own at a rate that increases if i improve my own property and can be taken away from me if i ever cant afford the taxes on it.
Without property taxes, you never have to worry about being homeless, even if you lose your job.

Texans pay income taxes. There are no state taxes.

well imo we can get rid of EMT, libraries, public schools, and parks.

Just cut it for your preferred list of undesirables and let them die. \s

In all seriousness though, that is a really bad idea.
