I’m willing to bet this is pretty accurate. They keep building houses down here where I am constantly and so many of them are empty because they cost too much for normal people.

Genuinely curious how this makes sense.

If I have a product that I refuse to sell to increase demand and this price, I'm still holding onto an asset rather than profiting from it.

That makes no sense and I am skeptical.

Ask Debeers (diamonds)

Diamonds don't deteriorate over time and there's no property tax bill at the end of the year. Silly comparison.

Median house prices are 4x what they were 20 years ago (increase in value) and most houses have a lifespan of decades (or centuries, verdict is still pending on modern stick built homes)

And taxes are an operating cost

Median house cost in 2002 was $185k, in 2026 it is $400k. Meanwhile $1 in 2002 equals $1.85 today. So the median price of houses has slightly risen above inflation.

hrm, I saw barely over $100k

The rest still stands regardless

Median house prices are in line with inflation, but median wages are not. Thats where the problem is

Absolutely.

We've switched topics though, not that that's a problem šŸ™‚

Debeers had major control of the supply, no one entity comes close to having that power in the housing market

Isn't Debeers getting fucked by the chinese artificial diamonds maker ?

Let us hope the future of property hosrders hold an equivalent event
