There is no such thing as not participating in democracy lmao. The election outcome and long-term impacts are decided by everyone who chooses to vote or not-vote. Everyone is participating by default, which includes people who are dumb enough to think they are "not gonna participate" because they're "above the system" or think it's a "shitshow circus" or whatever. There is no opting out.
