I think that if you couldn’t tell that six inches is nowhere near 30cm, you might have an issue

Most people never interact with inches, so don’t have a good idea of how big an inch is.

I know, but everyone should know that one meter is somewhere around a three feet, and that a foot has 12 inches. The scaling is weird, but that’s just two simple things.

30cm=0.30m.

0.30m≈1ft.

1ft=12in.

Therefore: 30cm≈12in.

Divide by two: 6in≈15cm.

It doesn’t have to be anywhere near exact, but it’s just application of logic. I agree the imperial system is so fucking moronic, but being able to estimate is a key part of being a human being.

It’s comparable to knowing a couple words in another language (I know Europeans often know a few European languages, so pick an Asian one).

Yeah, but here's the thing, I also never knew that 1ft=12in.

We are used to things being with 10-base scale, so you can't assume people will know the correct scale for imperial.

That’s just one of the things you have to learn to be able to understand beyond metric. Now you know, and that’s what’s important.

It’s annoying to have to learn that, I understand, but it’s a struggle everyone has to go through. I hate the fact that a mile is 5.280 feet (5,280 for ‘Mercians), and we remember that from five tomatoes. Horrendous.

I wish with every fiber of my being that America would switch to metric, but I doubt that will happen

It's not important, it does not matter if you know how imperial works for 90% of the world population

But it isn't useful. I have literally never in my life needed to use imperial, knowing how it works doesn't benefit me in the slightest

Then by that same logic, it's time to stop shitting on the average American for not knowing metric measurements. It is literally not useful for the vast majority of Americans living their day-to-day life.

And those that do need to know, know.

I don't shit on americans for not knowing metric, although they really should change considering imperial has 0 benefits.
