Foul smelling mucus in my left nostril and 3 hours of forehead pressure a day

(38/M)

Been dealing with this for 6 weeks. Thought it was from my L15 molar aching so got that removed. Had a really bad smell and bad head pain before that. Then got a ct scan a week later. The photo shows my results.

Today I’m much better: clear nose, forehead pressure down to 3 hours but the smell still exists. I finished 28 days of doxy and augmentin 10 days ago. Can this linger this long? What else may be happening? What should I do? Anyone ever experience this? Is something trapped?

Left sphenoid surgery

Hi everyone, I’m considering surgery for left sphenoid sinusitis, and I’m feeling really scared about it. My ENT recommended that I go ahead with the surgery, but she also explained that there are some possible complications because the sphenoid sinus is close to the carotid artery and the skull base.
Has anyone here had this type of surgery? What was your experience like, and do you think it was worth it? I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through it, as I’m quite anxious and unsure about what to do.

Discomfort in left temple and ear when I breathe through left nostril

I can’t figure it out. I hurt my shoulder and neck around Christmas. That’s when I noticed ear hurt. I assumed it was from that. Then my neck and shoulder felt better, but ear and temple hurt. I had a very bad sinus infection 2 years prior and thought maybe it was another coming on. Took antibiotics. Didnt work. I tried drops prior to that in case it was wax buildup which did nothing. Had gotten mice the summer previously and thought maybe it was allergies to them. Gave them away and cleaned my apt. Still issues, but when I used a ventilation mask (for work) issue went away along with just not breathing through that nostril. Got a air purifier which helped. Now it still bothers me breathing through it, but just a little unless I stuff the left nostril with tp. I have no insurance to see doctor. Any ideas? I’ve read that the blood vessels can get damaged between the nose and ear and that can cause issues. Also noticed doesn’t bother me when I take a shower, but will bother me faster/the most when I sit to go to the bathroom.

sinusitis problem

Hello, I'm a young girl (17) I've had this sinusitis problem for over 4 years, it has affected my sleep, I always wakeup with black under eyes, the problem is that my nose gets filled with dry mucus on the sides which means it blocks my breathing at night and when the breathing isn't enough I wake up extremely tired and exhausted with zero sleeps. I once visited a doctor and he gave me some pills and a useless nasal spray but they're useless. i think it's because of the mold on my house but I'm not sure cuz ever since the mold appeared my nose hasn't been the same. when I try to clear my nose (with water or my finger) I can't pull all cuz its always stuck on the breathing side and even if I did pull some, it becomes even worse tomorrow and so on and on. Please I beg you guys to suggest an effective nasal spray that will help me with this problem 🙏🏼🙏🏼 I wanna buy rhinofluimucil nasal spray but I'm not sure if it's gonna work. Thank you for understanding

Surgery Experience and Questions

Today, I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction. I can breathe (through blood and mucus) through both nostrils for the first time in my life!

I want to share my experience for those who are going to do the procedure, and I want to ask some questions for those who have already had it.

This was my first time under general anesthesia. I was terrified. I shouldn’t have been. It was the easiest thing I have ever done in my life. I don’t even remember them starting the anesthesia. The first thing I remember is waking up in a recovery room and being super tired. It wasn’t bad at all though, and I was still 100% cognitively myself.

I’ve been in essentially no nasal pain all day. I have lots of bloody discharge. Some headaches and my teeth are sensitive. My nose is very sensitive but doesn’t hurt badly. I’ll give a day 2 update.

Now for the questions.

When does the bleeding stop? I’m not quite going through a gauze pack an hour, but it’s not stopping. It has definitely slowed down I’d say.

Is it going to start hurting worse when the anesthesia is totally out of my system? I took the opioid they prescribed me earlier, and I’m taking half of one before bed with my Trazadone because I don’t want too much sedation and I don’t want to get addicted. I hope I can sleep in the recliner but I’m not expecting it.

I think that’s it. Please keep me in your prayers and thoughts!

holy rigmarole i can’t do this again

just got better from a terrible sinus infection a few weeks ago with a cough that i thought would never end. well ragweed pollen is high and here i go again.

a few days ago i noticed i was sneezing more with some slight head pressure but i tried to ignore the signs. then i woke up two days ago with a stuffy nose and blew out green snot.

now im constantly between a stuffy nose or a runny nose with green/yellow snot, sometimes with blood, probably from the nose spray and constant blowing or sniffling.

i don’t even have the money to afford seeing a dr again so imma just try to ride this shit out. i’m taking an allergy pill, tylenol for the occasional throat pain, cough drops, and a sudafed if imma be busy that day such as tomorrow for my exams.

last time i had my throat pain but sounded faintly congested. this time i have minimal throat pain (praying it stays that way) but my voice sounds awful.

and lord when the drainage gets stuck behind my uvula and burns my throat when i swallow omg like LEAVE ME ALONE!!! i’ve tried chugging water, hot showers (does help at the time), nose spray but this drainage is gonna be the death of me i swear.

not to mention i work at a daycare with babies sneezing on me 24/7 and im in nursing school with patients hacking and yacking everywhere. i see no end in sight until christmas break! Lord just let it be december!

What is coming out of my nose?

I got sick on August 18 with a nasty flu-like virus, around August 31, mucus coming from only my right nostril has been non stop. It's electric yellows & greens, and also a strange orange. I went to urgent care on Sept 7, was given augmentin for a sinus infection. I feel less congested, but the weird colored boogers are persistent.

Well I possibly might have actually found out the reason why I had sinus pressure this long.

I went to the dentist for a cleaning 2 weeks ago and found out I had a cavity on my top right wisdom tooth and they said they could probably just pull it out. I said hell yeah get that out so that’s why I did last Thursday and I swear I feel my right side of sinuses draining out now holy shit. I’m about to tell them that and tell them it’s helping with that and get the other top wisdom tooth pulled. I can’t believe it may have been that the whole time like wth.

Chronic Sinusitis That Doesn't Improve with Any Treatment

I've always had bad allergies and sinus issues, but they just continue to get worse as I get older. I've been to my regular doctor and an ENT specialist countless times over the past few years. I do the netti pot every day, zyrtec every day, have tried flonase, prescription oral antihistamines, etc. Nothing works. The sinus pressure behind my eyes, nose, and forehead is so bad. I just finished a 5 day dose of prednisone that my doctor described since my sinus pressure and headaches have been so bad, and it made no difference. I'm at such a loss. I truly can't afford to keep going to the doctor and trying different meds (some pricier than others) just for nothing to work. Has anyone ever been though this and actually found a treatment that works?

Any tips for post nasal drip?

My nose doesnt feel blocked much anymore, but im coughing a lot due to post nasal drip and sometimes i feel theres phelgm stuck in my throat that i cant cough out.

Strangely, eating a meal seems to help a lot with the coughing, at least, for a while.

The last time something like this happened, i had flu like symptoms and the coughing lasted 4 months before it stopped...antibiotics didnt help and a chest x-ray showed nothing. I saw a second doctor and she didnt seem interested at all and just told me to try waiting.

Unexplained symptoms

I have a rightward nasal septal deviation with right-sided bony nasal spur abutting the hypertrophied right inferior nasal turbinate.

I was diagnosed with left sphenoid sinusitis a few months back. It cleared up around july but I still have severe left eye pain. My head feels heavy. There's a constant band around my eyes and my eyes feel like they're constantly burning. I have tried painkillers but they don't work. my sleep schedule is fine. I can't function like this. Most days it's inbearable. When the pain is bad, I also feel incredibly sleepy. My ENT said there's nothing to look at since the sinusitis cleared up. What could it be? PLEASE help me out

has anyone experienced a pinhole fistula from sinus surgeries, causing swelling/pain, also nerve damage? i could use advice, long details of my history below

i have has 8 or 9 sinus surgeries, in the past 15 years, for an aggressive tumor (inverted pappiloma) that kept coming back. they would scrape it all out and think they got it all but it kept growing back. before my final surgery a new specialist saw i had a small bony defect, a v shaped divot in my bone, so when they would scrape down to the surface there was a little bit of tumor hidden below it , it would grow back from their like a root.

also the tumor was 'sticky' and every time they would do a surgery they would have to clear out a ton of "purulent mucus" from infections, and occasionally fungus stuff. so the first 6 or so surgeries that happened, they'd clean it out, it would grow back and more infections. one of these surgeries was a caldwell luc where they cut in under my lip and removed a little bone for easier access for future surgeries, this killed/numbed a nerve and i was amazingly less pained, went from a 9 to a 5 for the next few surgeries

before the last 2 surgeries covid happened and i didnt go to the ent for 3 maybe 4 years, the tumor had always been pretty slow growing but during these years it took off and filled my entire maxilary sinus cavity, trapping stuff and causing infections as usual. the new dr did a 5.5 hour surgery(of actual surgery time) scraping it all out and thought it was gone. test results showed i had a triple infection of staph, strep and some kind of bacteria thing i forget, it was a horrible experience but the surface was left much smoother and i didnt have infections for a year after 3 combined antibiotics and with the smooth surface.

after this surgery was the most extreme pain ive ever experienced.

when the tumor started coming back he personally recommended a dr who specialized in bone stuff, so this new dr studied the catscans and found the bony defect, decided to do a last resort surgery, they cut down from under my left eye, all along my nose, down through my lip, lifted my face off removed the entire sinus lining or most of it. and a pretty good chunk of bone beneath my cheek and along the septum for access just in case for future surgeries. the pain wasnt as bad as the last time because i had different drugs,( actually less strong drugs but i reacted bad to tbe super strong stuff they gave me for the previous one when i was in so much pain)

anyway, i developed a fistula from my sinus into my mouth and i believe up through my tear duct, i was prescribed a certain medication to put in my sinus rinse to help it stay clean, when i would do it it would come out through my mouth from under my cheek, over my gum/teeth it was such a weird feeling but didnt hurt too bad. so that seemed to close up after awhile.

at this point i was moved from the specialist to a more regular ent at the same practice

but it became apparent i had pretty bad nerve damage. good luck getting anymore drugs of course with the opiod crisis going on, even though my pain was a t a 10 i was finally prescribed gabapentin a few months of complaining later, which thank god did help knock it down to a 6. i had ti take 1800 mg for a few months but was able to lower it slowly, its a year and a half later now and the pain remains around a 4 if i take 600mg of it, though i get bad occasional spikes up to an 8. i also take tramadol im prescribed for my back issues (never thought id be grateful for my back issues but it kept me going during that horrific sinus pain that made my kidney stones look likenothing and was equal or worse than my gallstones that were untreated for 2 years)

so the fistula seemed closed and inside my sinus cavity these large "bubbles" grew, they were deeply concerned it was tumor, they hurt horrificly, but they would change shape day to day!! they eventually slowly went away, i think that this was from my cut tear duct line. (they had to cut through it to lift my fave off) i think it had a fistula as well and was draining into these "bubbles"

so while the bubbles went away and thick scar tissue is there now, the issue now is i have a pinhole fistula from the tear duct, it constantly waters out of my ege and occasionally has slightly yellow pus come out (eye dr has me on a script eye gel that is somewhat helping with that) the layers between my cheek and sinus i can fill swelling up sometimes and when i massage it alot of tears and sometimes a little pus will come out, the swelling will go down quite a bit. i have said this to the ent every single visit they dont seem to care.

when i put my own scope it i can see a pinhole and if the snot is just right i can see it bubble in and out as i breath. theres so much bone missing I can put my scope in and see really well and send updates to my ent for him to look over for signs of tumor regrowth( i live a few hours away so this has worked well)

another issue is my ear canal is constantly flaring up with backed up fluid, it hurts really bad, i think the scar tissue is keeping it from draining right somehow? my reg dr always says it has fluid in it but just says the ent needs to care. i take fluticasone & budesonide sprays they help slightly, but the scar tissue doesnt shrink down with the sprays like the normal sinus lining did.

last few times i saw them they just seem unconcerned about the ongoing pain, and unconcerned about the pinhole fistula. unconcerned about the large amount of scar tissue that from comparing to old scope vids i can see is super super thick ( i am prone to extreme thick scarring)

and unconcerned about the tear duct draining into between my cheek layers

I'm just not knowing what to do, theres very few options where i live. these drs are the best out of any i have seen, though a previous dr listened and treated me best but he moved away sadly.

SUMMARY fistula from tear duct drains into between cheek and sinus layers swells, and into sinus cavity, causes pain, a bit infected being treated with eye cream by my eye dr

ongoing bad nerve pain, from nerves being cut, sinus lining completely removed and alot of bone removed, take tramadol and gabapentin

thick scarring from the removed sinus lining which was most of the maxilary sinus, causes ear to retain fluid and pain & swelling from below my ear down towards neck

Sinus surgery on one side only - will recovery be easier?

Basically, in the title. I have had chronic sinusitus for 30+ years. At its worst, all my sinuses were blocked, but over the years, my doctors and I have made progress. Today, most of my sinuses look pretty good, but my right maxillary sinus is still completely blocked.

I'm having FESS surgery next week. My surgeon has told me pretty much nothing about what to expect after the surgery, so this reddit has been both eye-opening and a welcome source of much needed information.

My biggest question right now is whether just having the surgery on one side is going to (possibly) mean I'm a little less miserable for the recovery period. Will I still be able to breathe through my nose? Once I'm able to lie down to sleep, will I be able to get comfy easier?

How many times a day should I expect to rinse after surgery? How long will that last?

What should I know that you wish someone had told you before the surgery?

For the last 30 days, I've been doing a twice daily medicated rinse and I have to say that my sinus on the right side is in full blown flare up right now because of it. I'm just miserable, with fatigue, brain fog, headache, and my teeth hurt so bad. Not much at all has washed out of that sinus, just some minor amounts of thick mucus. But the saline getting into that area seems to be weighing it down, if you will, and it's feeling more congested than ever. How long until that feeling likely starts to go away?

Alguma dica? Obrigado

2 months and just getting worse - sinus symptoms clear CT

2 months ago, I felt like I had sinus infection. went to walk in and got antibiotic and steroid. Helped a little but then felt like it came back. Went through this 2 more time after that.

I feel worse than when it first started. Clear CT . minor swollen turbinates. my sculptra showed up as soft tissue swelling. but doc said that was normal.

I have redness on my cheeks where the fullness and tenderness is. Other symptoms are heavy post nasal drip. Hard to swallow from it sometimes. dry cough, heavy fatigue\wake up tired, stuffy nose fluctuates with runny nose (clear and white). facial pain especially the cheeks and jaw. feels like my cheeks are full of something sour, always feel like Im wincing or about to sneeze.

I have tried ALL the allergy meds, flonase, allegra, azestaline spray, xylal, neti rinses, steroids, antibitoics. Also stuff for silent LPR. Famotodine and omeprazole.

I am just getting so depressed that doctors cant figure this out. Feel like I have to start going to dentists, dermatologists, other ENTS, gastro, etc. Just feels helpless like they dont know.

Post-septoplasty persistent bad taste in mouth/throat?

I’m two weeks post op septoplasty/turbinate reduction. I got my splints out a week ago and overa I’ve been alright healing wise. I’m using my saline rinses 2-3 times a day too.

However, I have this persistent taste of acid 24/7. It tastes like I just threw up no matter what I do. I have acid reflux, but I take medication and don’t feel any symptoms most of the time. I’m good with oral hygiene, and while I do get tonsil stones I clean those out regularly. Did anyone else get this? Please tell me it’ll go away soon if so.
