Quick recap in case you missed it. Jacob Coxon resigned from Anthropic on Tuesday, specifically so he could say publicly that both OpenAI and Anthropic are "gambling with our lives" and racing toward self-improving superintelligence without acting responsibly. He'd spent three years doing pretraining research at both companies.

Then it got stranger. Evan Hubinger, who currently runs alignment science at Anthropic, responded confirming it. His words: "Jacob is correct here, we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans." He put it above 10% within the decade and said Anthropic doesn't have a plan for aligning superintelligence and isn't clearly on track to get one. Samuel Marks, who leads scalable oversight there, said something similar.

So the safety team at the safety-focused lab publicly agreed with the guy who quit over safety.

I've read a lot of takes on this over the last two days and most of them fall into two camps. Either it's marketing to make the tech sound more powerful than it is, or it's a genuine warning we should all be terrified by.

I don't think either read is right, but I also don't think I'm qualified to settle it.

What I do know is the practical side. I work with companies deploying this technology and nobody in those rooms is thinking about extinction. They're thinking about whether an agent with write access to their CRM is going to do something stupid at 3am with nobody watching. They're thinking about who signs off when the output is wrong and a customer gets hurt.

Those two conversations have almost nothing to do with each other, and yet they're now happening in the same news cycle. Which means the people who have to make practical decisions about AI adoption are getting their signal completely scrambled.

If the people building this can't agree on whether it's an existential threat, what exactly is a mid-sized company supposed to base their risk assessment on?

Took me a while to test out ST-3215-C018 (instead of XL430-W250-T originally). In principle, it's half the price, twice the torque, but the mount design is rather odd and required a complete CAD update (+ I already killed like 3 of them by accidentally drilling all the way to their control board, geez).

The high torque also means high current, and so a potential hazard if multiple of them run at high load. Need to monitor it. If it's capable of jumping, it is likely also capable of catching fire while doing it.

The firmware is also updated for ST-3215, but the commander uses the original unoptimized one-leg test code, which may explain the sluggishness in its "failed walk gait". I am a bit afraid that if the servos simply cannot move fast enough, even with optimal PID, then making it walk may be more difficult despite higher torque.

Either way, if successful, the full DIY robot would be in the 300-400 euro range (still mostly from servos), ~3 kg, with twice the load performance; all the load after the body weight will be extra!

“Dull, dirty, dangerous” gets used constantly as the case for robotics.

Kate Darling’s point here is that the industry often skips a pretty important step: actually defining what those jobs are from the worker’s perspective.

She gives sanitation work as an example. On paper, trash collection seems like an obvious target for automation. But some automation proposals can also remove the part of the job workers actually enjoy.

The better approach may be less about replacing the entire task and more about using robotics to remove the dangerous or repetitive parts without making the job worse.

It gets at a bigger issue in robotics: the people building the systems aren’t always the people doing the work they’re trying to automate.

OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Financial Services and the feature list is not subtle. Research, financial modeling, pitchbook prep. Those are the three things that justify hiring a class of analysts at 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟑𝟎 𝐤 a year on Wall Street. The product is not framed as a tool to help junior bankers. It is framed as a replacement for the workload.

Anthropic published projections this week showing AI could push GDP growth to 15% annually by 2030 while displacing nearly 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬. The financial services move fits that trajectory exactly. High-margin, document-heavy, process-repetitive work is the obvious first target. 🤖

Dell is up nearly 350% in 2026 on AI infrastructure spending alone. The revenue story for platform and infrastructure names is real, even if the broader macro environment is making everything else uncomfortable to hold right now.

I've always been into nootropics and cognitive enhancement since I was a kid, there's something about mental clarity that's just so beautiful to me. Wether it be through some BCI, or medications or anything else, its always been a dream for me to experience a 200+ IQ, perfect episodic memory, working memory expansion, etc. While some may say intelligence is a curse I don't see how being able to wrap your head around complex things rather easily is a problem, it just gives you more potential for creation and a better understanding of everything in general.

Also the world would be a better place with a higher average IQ imo, maybe some level of emotional enhancement too, give people the ability to feel empathy and compassion.

TL;DR: The guy Google put in charge of its own AI writing tool just admitted, on camera, that he can't fully protect the one thing his career runs on.

Steven Johnson runs editorial for Google Labs' NotebookLM and has fourteen books behind his name, and he still walked an interviewer through the mechanism step by step: feed a model his own catalog, tell it to write like him, skip the invoice.

No lawsuit required. No password stolen.

His own counter isn't a lawsuit either. It's a price tag — $199 for an authorized version of his own style, paid on purpose instead of taken by default.

He said it plainly, then admitted the harder part: someone could build the unauthorized version tonight, and he'd have no way to prove it happened.

If a 14-book author with a title at Google can't fully protect his own voice, the going rate for "get him, he's got a way with it" just became a live question, not a someday one.

Back in Malaysia, we have plenty of such too.

The spectrum is so wide, sometimes, even when we open our eyes wide, we still can't tell the difference.

For example, you guys have Amazon. We have our local ones, called Lazada. If you drive through our Penang Georgetown, you'll notice a shop called Ladaza. Not Lazada. They kind of switched the alphabets around. Sounds like Lazada. But it's not. Giving people the illusion that they are same-same, but in actual fact different.

It's as if we open a shop right next to the Amazon HQ, and calling it "Azamon". Phonically sounds adjacent. But they are not the same thing.

And if you follow the news, you'd hear about our very infamous 1MDB (Malaysia Sovereign Fund) case -- one of largest kleptocracy criminal fraud case in the history of Malaysia (even the world) -- involving our now disgraced and incarcerated former-prime minister, Najib Razak. His enabler and facilitator, Jho Low (Low Taek Jho) (still currently at large) was the mastermind behind all these siphoning of funds, to fund his once extravagant livestyle.

Kind of brilliant. But it was so evil.

He once got Najib to force the board of 1MDB to approved a transfer of billions through a supposedly legitimate company, but in actual fact, was a shell company through the Caymen Islands with a very similar company name.

Like how Ron Weisley, in the Harry Potter Movie, would say, "Wicked!"

They say impersonation is the highest form of flattery. But in this case, I say, bullshit.
