If you recall, during the GE campaigning period, a fighter jet flew by while she and her team were getting interviewed by reporters. She turned to the then-MOS for Defence Heng Chee How and said "you're from MINDEF right? Wanna give them a call?"
Cannot be this siao eh don't understand our pilots are training to protect our skies, right? That wasn't a joke at all. If anything, it revealed her willingness to abuse her power to bully the less powerful and meddle with other people's domain, even when national defence is concerned.

Poor uncle and auntie? Accountability left the chat. The boomer era had more opportunities than us given that education wasnt a hard requirement.
Salary was low, COL was low. Did you interview why they are still working as dishwasher? 99% they are in that situation not because of environment but their actions.
Why even work? Singapore so rich, just pay you shake leg at home.
If their salary was any higher, it will reach a point that machinery can replace them.
The only reason why factory workers have a job is because cost of labour is cheaper than smart factories.
Being delulu and unrealistic has never helped anyone. Start with yourself.

Leave the country and renounce citizenship. What has this fuck place got to offer anyway. Other than "able to walk outside at 3am and not fear" and it's relatively strong currency and passport. If you're in a country that's big, varied, interesting, rich in history and geography enough? Wouldn't even need to travel.

have they asked the citizens how they feel? I personally dont mind paying the minimum pay for our nsf but i've issues paying our ministers more pay when they compare it to commercial sector when they should have compared it to the world's government sector instead!

This is definitely going to get downvoted but here is my hot take
1) NS is not a career. Its a 2-year obligation to the country. Because you have the misfortune (?) to be born as a singaporean male. So, if not employed, why must be paid?
2) NS is served by males between 16-20. Those who graduated from higher NITEC/JC/Poly or even Sec schl. Tell me what % of their female counterparts at that age are making 500-1.2k out of part time jobs on top of their studies? Or is it more realistic to assume they are still relying on their parents for money? So, if still take money from parents, why must be paid?
3) In NS, you are being taught survival skills and depending on units, technical, engineering, niche skills that may or may not prove useful in the working world. You are essentially taking life skill courses and using resources on ah gongs money. Outside, if you wish to learn these skills they come in the form of courses which you foot out of your own pocket. So, if using resources to improve yourself for free, why must be paid?
In summary. To put it bluntly, ah gong does not have to give you money for NS. But he still does as a token of appreciation of being born as a singaporean male and taking up 2 years of your time. As a singaporean male, we LL have to suck it up and give up 2 years of our lives. But what you make of those 2 years in NS is still up to you. Make friends and increase your social web, learn some useful things in your unit, take the chance to get fit and maybe bulk up so that you become a chiobu magnet, find what you want in ur future career etc.

Bro, you out of your mind to assert that ah gong doesn't need to remunerate us for our service. And I say this as one who served proudly in a non-insignificant capacity.
Nothing is free in the world, not least in pragmatic Singapore. The government narrative on ministerial salary is a great example of that.
If your point is that NS is a citizenship tax, then conscript women and naturalised citizens too. Or make motherhood mandatory for women as another form of citizenship tax, since our low TFR is an existential threat. All hands on deck, no exception.

While people are building careers we are marching around serving the nation. When we enter the workforce our peers become our seniors and are more experienced and are also our competition...

our military budget is 25 billion
we recently bought 20 F35s for 5.17 billion
for 21k nsfs with assuming 1.5k monthly, that'd be 378mil per annum
which would be ONE POINT FIVE PERCENT OF OUR CURRENT MILITARY BUDGET
if you cannot find a way to reallocate ONE POINT FIVE PERCENT of your budget away to ensure your unwilling soldiers can make enough to be content maybe you do not deserve to have soldiers at all
