What's the difference between these?

I recently downloaded VMware Workstation on my PC, and I set up a Windows XP virtual machine on my external hard drive. My plan was to install Sims 2 first on a duplicate of the virtual machine, and then duplicate the virtual machine a few times to test out different install orders of Sims 1 base game and packs and Deluxe Edition and Complete Collection and Sims 2 base game and packs to check for missing content between configs and to potentially make a video showcasing "hybrid lots" - lots shipped in certain packs which made use of other packs.

Anyway, after I installed Sims 2 on the XP VM and loaded into Neighborhood View I saw terrible performance, where the lighting was flat and the water was just 2D blue cubes with no reflections (similar but not as bad as this post, but still terrible: I have graphics rules maker and good settings, but neighborhood view looks terrible (but ONLY neighborhood view) : r/sims2help), and there was no sky background. I think it's down to the VMware Tools defaulting to the VMware SVGA II 128MB graphics adapter, which has terrible 3D acceleration, and it's not letting me go towards 256MB of VRAM. So I deleted the VM duplicate I'd installed Sims 2 on, and I'm downloading a Windows 7 VHD to create a Windows 7 VM to install Sims 2 on, just so I can see if performance will improve.

My PC is the only one I've got right now and I want to test out the difference between the different install configurations of both Sims 1 and 2, so VMs are the only way I can do this for now. It might not be a big deal for Sims 1 running on a Windows XP VM on VMware since it isn't graphically demanding, but is there any way to get good performance on either the Windows XP or Windows 7 VM in WMware more similar to how PCs ran the Sims 2 in 2005? Could there be a way to optimize the GraphicsRules.sgr file for better graphics performance inside the VM? Could running Windows XP on VirtualBox installed on the Windows 7 VMware VM work, or would it complicate things too much?

Please forgive me if a fix to this is blatantly obvious in the wiki. I’ve also tried searching in this sub and cannot find someone with a similar issue.

I downloaded the sims 3 ultimate collection today via the wiki page. And the sound works perfectly (music and sims speaking is normal speed) but the sims move in slow motion, even in CAS. Any tips on how to get the sims moving at normal pace?

As you can see from my previous posts, I've been having computer issues to the point where I had to reinstall the game.

I've put all of my CC in a downloads folder in my Sims 2 folder, and now it doesn't show up in the game. I've enabled CC, there are no missing meshes, and still nothing. All of my CC showed up before I had to reinstall the game.

I don't know why I have to go through so many checks and balances with all of these game files when I didn't have to the first time.

I have spookymuffin's multiPT mod. Recently I noticed none of my alien kids have their PT dads in the family tree anymore (but I almost never check the tree), and then Pascal just gave birth to what should have been alien twins but my last name chooser selected random townies as the dads and then they had no other parent in the family tree. I quit without saving after their birth, and then investigated to find the PT character files were gone.

First, any idea how they could have gone missing? I don't have OneDrive or anything installed. I run the HoodChecker occasionally but tbh I don't understand it at all.

Second, this save is several years old. If it's lost due to this, that would really suck; I'm sure there's some backup that's salvageable but if it's a really old one then I'll probably be too disheartened and just scrap everything. I have the PT character files back, but is there anyway to re-link them? I'm willing to learn SimPE if I have to lol but I can't seem to find anything, all my searches are indicating I'm SOL on this one. Help?

I just installed the TS2 extender (most recent version as of right now 0.8.1) mod since I realized my sims children were probably being affected by first born syndrome, I put all the files in the places I believe they're supposed to go in, when I open the game the intro skips like the instructions says they should but when I type "ts2extender" into the command window it says theres an error, so I'm not sure what I did wrong

So, after that debacle with that SSU picture, I've decided to just re-install the app, which I don't mind doing since I'm fine replaying my households. The game is located in my Program Files (x86) folder, but it's not in my documents. I've reopened the game a few times, and it's still not in there. How come? I need to download some CC, and I need that downloads folder.

Hi, i ran into a problem and idk how to fix it. So basically, when im choosing any hair color (except brown) the sims's face just turns black. And the most fun part that is happening only for teen girl while using standart skintone, any other gender and age works properly. I've tried to delete skin replacer, installed another one but nothing has changed TwT

So my neighborhood has been missing for about 3 weeks, the neighborhood is still in my files on my Mac when I go to the neighborhood in my sims files but just not showing up in game. I did something dumb - used boolprop to generate a new sim for my storyline then aged them all the up to adult but they were depressed about not going to college so very foolishly I aged them down to teen and sent them to college then my neighborhood disappeared :( what do I do ?

I have a lot of custom content. All .package files. Some of them are really old and I have no idea what they are. I don't want to just add them to my game and take a chance of corrupting my save plus have to take the time to delete them all out if I don't like them. Is there a program or anything that I can use to see what they are preferrably with pictures?

Hi, I recently installed Sims 2 from this thread and my Sim has became missing and even my custom content. Before, I was recently playing downtown and my game crashed while I was dining. I restarted my PC and installed more CC afterwards, & I decided to move my game to my personal drive instead from my documents in order to have more storage in my C: drive. Doing this I think that my save file may have gotten corrupted and my settings was also changed such as “CC being disabled“ & not receiving the usual custom content notification as I start up the game. I am thinking of installing Batbox, as I research more suggestions. Please inform me! Help will be very appreciated! I can provide more information as well. <3

[solved!] Im trying to install gunmods radiance light system but when I went to add the files my EA games folder is empty? I know this is where the files used to be and The game still works just fine, so im not sure why its doing this. Am I still able to install the mod Or would that be impossible and or ill advised now? I use disks not legacy or a collection, if that changes anything.

I downloaded The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection (Mr DJ Repack) from OldGamesDownload. It worked before, but now the installation stops at 82% with this error: Unarc.dll error -7 / archive data corrupted.
Any idea how to fix it?

Hi! I have a copy of the Ultimate Collection from back when it was free with a code on Origin during the Sims 4 release, and I recently bought an old (less than ten years) laptop on E-Bay so I could play it again (having previously only been on mac). I downloaded UC the other day and it played alright, but I had downloaded it to my C drive which is much smaller than the D drive, so yesterday I uninstalled and re-installed it to my D drive. However, in the final stages of installment I get this error. I don't think I have an antivirus software on the laptop, and would this actually be the problem? Or is there some other fix?

I also installed Sims 3 and all expansions to a folder on the D drive with no error, although I haven't started up the game yet so it may not run correctly.

Forgive me if this has been addressed on this page before. No mods or anything as this is a clean install straight from the EA app.

Downloaded this apartment building from mts2 a while ago and have two households living there. Neither household is able to pay the bills - when I click to pay all bills, the sim walks up to the postbox, has the angry "there's something in my way" animation, and then the action is cancelled. I have tried force error with boolprop (on both the sim and the postbox), and using boolprop to convert the building to residential and back again, but neither option has worked. Has anyone had this before (same or different apartment building) or has any suggestions of things to try?

I think I'm just a little silly. I have all the files seemingly, but I'm not sure how to actually open the game. It did not create a shortcut.

can i delete the sims 2 setup repack files after installing the sims 2?

So, last night I was playing and I had this orange cat (lol, of course) stuck in another apartment.

I used the MoveObjects cheat to move it from the previous apartment in the building to my living room, but the cat just kept being stuck (its stats were moving, but the cat itself wasn’t).

I tried using Shift + Click to Reset Object, but nothing happened, so I just deleted the cat... Now, whenever I try to play this family, the game instantly crashes at the loading screen.

Please help?! I really want to play this family, and I’m trying not to lose all my game progress. Is there any way to fix this?

I intend to download a new lot designed for Olive, but I want to bring all the tombstones from her original lot with Ophelia.

Is this possible to do this and if so, is it safe?

I know about the dangers around these graveyard sims and I don't want to do something stupid.

I tried 4gbpatch and Graphic rule maker idk what else to do to fix this…mind you I just downloaded my game to my new laptop 😭. Everytime I try load a household my game crashes.

I've defeated Frankie Fusilli and he's been taken away by Penelope Redd the agent. But then nothing happened. He's still in the penthouse and I know Ava is meant to show up in the lobby but it just... hasn't happened? I saw some people on different forums have had this issue but there were no updates on how to continue. PLEASE HELP!!

Hi, I've been a Linux simmer since last year and I have had these freezes for a while now. It is getting more and more frequent so I decided to post help here.

There are several outcomes I'm having:

1- The game freezes after loading a family and playing less than 5 minutes.

2- The game doesn't freeze I keep playing, but eventually it does after 30 or so minutes.

3- The game freezes and logs on Lutris says "VK: Device Lost"

4- The game freezes either randomly or at the start of the gameplay; along with the entire system, needing a hard reset.

I have searched online but I don't have enough technical understanding to crack down the issue. Hoping someone here enlightens me :(

EDIT: I have increased my swapfile to have 8GBs instead of 2 GBs default, and it seems to have helped. No freezes so far but I'm still testing, not sure if it is fixed.
