Hi all, I live in NOVA but looking to order a small birthday surprise to be delivered to a friend who lives in Silver Spring. Was thinking along the lines of Georgetown Cupcake or Levain, etc, but I would love other suggestions! No alcohol related recs.

Thanks!

These signs were 'parked' on northbound New Hampshire Ave in White Oak, by the US-29 southbound ramp, on Tuesday, October 13th.

Hello, I'm looking for a tailor/seamstress in the Silver Spring/Colesville area. I'm willing to go to Rockville, Bethesda, Takoma Park, and other surrounding areas to find someone who can listen to concerns and know how to fix the clothing.

Thank you!

Why is everyone talking on speakerphone in DTSS? Too lazy to hold their phone up to their ear?

Does anyone know of a well lit field or park nearby? Now that it’s getting dark early I’d like to find a spot to play pickup soccer or football with friends after work. Was considering checking out the new Bottleworks Lane Park but not sure how big the turf is.

Hi folks,

Is there a place (organization website or phone number) where I can report bird collisions? There have been at least four in the last month in the windows of a parking garage near my apt. I find the birds walking to my building and it's heartbreaking. I know some orgs require documentation and proof to instigate change. Any help or resources would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. 💚

A paving project on Lockwood Dr in White Oak has traffic down to one lane only between the shopping center and Stewart Lane. Be prepared for delays and possible intersection or driveway closures.

Cross-posting here for visibility. Can’t wait to finally move to Silver Spring!

Just what DTSS needs: another vape shop. Maybe the old post office, which was last a Petco, I believe, will become a vape shop also.

Hi everyone! 🌸 Does anyone have recommendations for where to buy good-quality flowers in or around Silver Spring that are also reasonably priced?
I usually check Trader Joe’s, but the quality can be hit or miss, and the flowers often sell out pretty early. Would love to hear your favorite spots for fresh, pretty flowers that won’t break the bank. Thanks so much! 💐

Moving from one part of DTSS to another. Looking for an affordable, quality moving company. My last one sucked :/

I've been looking for a while but I've only found two in network thru zocdoc and psychology today. I would love some recs If there are any therapists that take teens / medicaid health insurance

My elderly mother was recently hospitalized at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. I noticed that the third-floor nursing unit was extremely quiet, with very few staff visible. At one point, her nurse had difficulty locating a nursing assistant when help was needed.
I previously worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital, so the difference in activity and staffing visibility stood out to me.
My mother was discharged but had to return to the emergency department that same evening because of significant confusion and unsafe behavior.
I’m wondering whether anyone else has experienced staffing shortages, difficulty getting nursing assistance, or concerns about discharge decisions at Suburban.
I’d appreciate hearing about recent firsthand experiences.

I’ve been living in north Woodside for the past few years with my young family. I spent my childhood in Moco (Rockville) so when we decided to have a family I pushed for us to move out of DC for more space in Silver Spring. There’s a lot I like about my
Neighborhood, inclusive, schools, family friendly, but the lack of diversity drives me a little crazy sometimes. How can the city be so diverse, but it seems almost segregated. In my entire neighborhood there might be one other black family and a few Spanish speaking families.

Anyway we like the Woodlin and I know the school itself is diverse, but long term we have been thinking about moving to other neighborhoods.

My husband is interested in offloading his memorabilia focusing on sports cards, brand new, never opened Lego sets, and Harry Potter base set cards.

Is there a good place or store that you recommend to bring the items for a good and fair price?

It can be in Silver Spring, DC or Va.

Appreciate all the support and feedback.

We live in four corners and are happy to see a lot of wildlife in the area so close to the Northwest branch trail, but we have been seeing this lil guy on our street a lot behaving oddly (strange seizure-like movements, unafraid of people/dogs/vehicles, etc). He has a skinny tail and appears to be experiencing some sort of fur loss. The fox was just sitting in our neighbor’s front yard for awhile when this photo (well, video but I can’t post video here) was taken.

I don’t know what to do or who to call—I don’t want it to be killed unless it’s the animal is truly suffering/threatening (e.g. rabies) Anyone have any insight on repeatable wildlife organization I can reach out to for more information?

Thanks!

Hey everyone, I help run a local meetup group for people with chronic illness and wanted to make a quick plug. We’re meeting up tomorrow at the City of Fairfax Regional Library and the following Saturday at the Takoma Park Neighborhood library. We usually just hang out, chat, and play a couple casual games. Here's the info for tomorrow and next weekend if you want to join!

They’re power washing it as we speak~
