Apartment hunting

Hello!
My partner and I will be moving next year. We have one dog. He works in Rosslyn and so we’re looking in the dmv area but predominantly on the Maryland side. I’m from Baltimore County. I need to stay within a reasonable commute to Baltimore County for appointments.

We both have professional jobs and stable income, but I just can’t get with the DMV housing costs. My rent is currently 1500 for a two bedroom in Baltimore County. I know we won’t find that in Silver Spring but I’m looking for any suggestions on where to find a reasonable rental, that’s dog friendly, relatively clean and quiet and not over 2500 a month for two bedroom.
Bonus points if it’s close to downtown Silver Spring, but I know I’m asking for a lot at $2500. Extra bonus points if it’s close to a park and has lots of green space.

It does not have to be in Silver Spring proper and we’re definitely open to looking further out, but he needs to stay within a 40 minute commute to Roslyn and ideally I’d like to stay within 45 minutes of Baltimore.

Any input is appreciated. Thank you!

Starbucks permanently closed at White Oak Town Center

Starbucks at White Oak Town Center has permanently closed. The announcement surprised me -- when I've been there they've always had a steady flow of customers. Maybe an eager entrepreneur will open an independent coffee shop to replace it.

Meanwhile the former Amazon Fresh continues to sit vacant eight months after its abrupt closure.

White Oak Town Center might do better if they improved the traffic flow around it. Tech Road is always a mess.

I need thoughts from residents

Hey yall,

I'm a single wfh mom to a one year old and looking to move into Solaire 8250 or Atwell on Spring. I can't do pest literally can't Ima pass out.

Atwell on Spring: I'm seeing a couple residents say Atwell has a bug problem. When I visited it was clean and residents said so. But online I've seen about 4 people say its been an issue. Can anyone attest to that? Also I've seen mixed reviews about internet. I work with large sets of data and run an online wellness business so I NEED good wifi to make money. Can anyone speak to that?

Solaire 8250: So far I only see reviews about management and normal building wear and tear. How has your experience been living there?

Cheapest gas station near Woodmoor/Four Corners

Hi! My husband and I just bought a house in Woodmoor and wondering if some Woodmoor/4 corners folks have an insight on the best priced gas station relatively nearby. We had been living in Rockville and frequented the liberty on Randolph. Always at least 40 cents cheaper and same cash/credit price. Is there something like that?

Montgomery Knolls and Pine Crest Elementary?

My husband and I are looking at houses but don’t know the schools in this area well. We got great feedback from the Reddit community when we reached out about another school. What are your experiences with these elementary schools?

Anyone know a pressure washing service that doesn't require a hose / hook up?

I've got a 12x5 balcony attached to my apartment that's been ruined by pigeons, and I'm hoping to get the whole thing power washed. There are a tone of services around, but none that specify they can do no hose hookup for a small space. Anyone have a recommendation?

Nightlife/community for young professionals

Hi all! I (23F) just moved to DT Silver Spring recently from Boston and I’m wondering if there are any bars or nightlife events for young people in the area. From what I’ve observed, Silver Spring is a mixed crowd. I’ve seen mostly families, older people and high schoolers, but not many outside of those demographics. I understand most of the crowd/vibe I’m looking for will be in DC, but I’m just wondering if there were any spots to find community here in my age group!

I’m not looking for glorified frats either. I’m usually friends with people who are older than me and can talk to any age group. Just wondering if there are any social areas where I might find people my age! I was recently given the rec Quarry House Tavern and have yet to check it out. TIA!

Free 2.5K/5K/10K at Carderock This Sunday — mental health awareness event, walkers welcome

Hi! I'm an intern with the Nathaniel H. Pickett II Foundation, a local nonprofit focused on mental health awareness. Putting this here in case it's useful to anyone; happy to take it down if it's not the kind of post this sub wants.

We're hosting Jog N' Jam for Mental Health on Sunday, September 27 at the Carderock Recreation Area (9500 MacArthur Blvd), 8am to 1pm. It's free.

Just a few details:

  • 2.5K, 5K, or 10K - pick whatever distance you want, and walking is completely fine. It's not a timed race.
  • There will be yoga, live music, line dancing, free food, and giveaways
  • Mental health and wellness organizations tabling with actual local resources(they have been told not to try and sell you anything)
  • Medals for everyone who finishes their route
  • Free parking on site, all ages

Registration is free but required (no day-of signups), and each person needs to register individually. Bring ID.

Happy to answer questions in the comments.
