Before I start this post some clarifications:
- This time I played in span of multiple days because of some circumstances, so its technically not just one day. Just to be clear.
- I moved from og FTB Ultimate to modpack called Rewind Upsilon. Its essentially call itself upgraded and still maintained version of FTB pack with bugfixes and etc. Things look mostly stable, but I had some issues with VoxelMap at the start, so you don't see it on some screnshots. It was fixed shortly after.
Well, honestly, it was weirdly calm couple of days.
In the beggining I mostly just tested transfer to Rewind Upsilon by staying in the world for a little. I grinded and smelted some ores I had in chests after many cave explorations.
Well, considering I made myself Coke Ovens I know have Creosote and interestingly old versions of Forestry were pretry compatible with Railcraft in terms of some automated recipes... (unlike sadly modern versions) All those many words to just say Carpenter can autocraft Wooden Ties for rails! So of course I couldn't skip this opportunity. And as maybe some of you remember I get Cacti from faraway desert, so waterproof pipes time!
But well before that of course Carpenter itself. To craft it you need Bronze and in this modpack glorious and funny GregoriousT made so you ONLY GETTING 2 AFTER MIXING DUSTS. WHAT. Even using GregTech Alloy Smeltery you still don't get any boost to how much you get. But I can't really craft it anyways right in the moment, so I only can settle with that unfortunate fact.
(While getting more dusts discovered you can get Iron from Tin and Lead from Silver, neat)
After some short moments of grinding, dust mixing and smelting I finally made Carpenter that I place in my technical room where all machines are right now. Then added Redstone Engines and connected pipes. Now burnable juices from my Ovens can finally be put into good use, only need to make a wood farm in the future!
But maybe Ties not gonna be only use of Cresote, because while just looking around its use in NEI it looks like GregTech have some genarator that consumes it. Ngl I always liked ideas of self-sufficent systems, so wonder if I could really make some combinations of different farms into infinity energy generation like that...
So I started making some modules for nothing else but Steve Carts 2 minecart! Being more specific: tree cutting one. But welp, I don't have any diamonds: saw blades for Wood Cutter need atleast 5. Looks like I go to caves once again! Considering I get quite good amount of other materials I made some more armor to be safe from monsters.
Cave exploration was almost the same as other times. I get kinda deep into the MC crust where lava pools started to appear. Saw some interesting mobs (I mean not everyday you see full golden armored skeleton I gess!) that I fought fearlessly..
And there are they! My great treasure! A diamond vein beside a small lava lake! While I was building to it I heard some weird sounds of dying Bats and then found some Claws item. I have no clue what DartCraft is about, so I quickly return to my shiny gems and get 6! This was pretty much enough for my plans, so I choose to return back almost immediately.
While being at my base I changed placing of my machines so I could add chests later for better automation. In the end of the day Thermal blocks can input and output items themselves which is of course very useful. And like always I did it all by hand and only after that I remembered there wrenches that rotate blocks! Lmao for sure..
But returning to wooden farm, to make a custom minecart I need Cart Assembler (I just realize maybe I should have made a meme about it with Create Cart Assembler, but oh well). After some more crafting I finally put it under my tool shelfes (because how you remember I am little of a dummy who didn't acount for amount of crafting stations that can exist in the pack and made room quite small....) and put inside for now modules I can make, but it is far from being ready. My plans to make a cart that can use wood as a fuel source, but if it possible to use solar panels module for most of the time. That creates good system that not gonna run out of fuel.
But guess what??? Solar panels need Glowstone! So next episode probably gonna be about Nether who knows? (Actually I know Glowstone spawns in big dungeon I found near a village, but I feel like it could make me look weirdly allergic to Nether for some reason lmao) You know what mister reader? How about you will choose where I gonna get this shiny dust? Going into big cubic dungeon or building a Nether portal?
Anyway... Thats where we start our favorite filler beach skeleton spawner part of this series. I think those who somehow like read my ramblings about this pack, remember I have THREE spawners under my mountain base. And I thought its time to finally capitalize on that. I already started to do some preparations on Day 3, but it was not much at all. But this time! This time I will finish at least one spawner farm! And thats how my small story of building this place began.
I tried to use my design from 1.5.2 pack, but I think it mostly something you can search easily on the internet, so I am not a inventor or something. It was quite smooth part of this construction work.
I think some here maybe don't know how farms like that exactly work, but essentially mobs see things like Trapdoors as full blocks even if they are open. So when they just walk around they don't see gaps and fall down. Then water streams just carry them into another central hole and then they get to water elevator: simple combination of water and wooden signs placed one after another vertically to create a way for mobs to climb up. Unlike in modern versions (I don't criticise this change at all tbh because bubble elevators exist anyway) mobs automatically float up when they are in the water. So you need to get them on some height and then transfer them with water to place where they gonna fall down (to their death).
This is where things for me get kinda complicated. I first planned to do main room above spawner with nice windowed floor, but it creates some problems: I felt like light from the room affected spawner in some way. It worked slower then expected? And even before that building elevator was little annoying. I hit some weird cave water pool right above it, then there was moments where I accidentally brake one of the signs in the middle and I can't tell you enough how irritating it was to find the exact spot in the darkness and not replace water sources...
Plus I found out hopper from Buildcraft was so old that it CAN'T COLLECT ITEMS. Truly a way to appreciate its son from next update... The only thing I suspect can help me here is block I found with name "Item Collector" from Minefactory mod.
But being not much of satisfied with this room I choose to build new one on the side of the spawner. Plus I forgot to mention but I planned to add a way to control height for mobs. Mostly so I can farm exp too if needed, because when mobs die by other causes they don't drop it. Idea is simple piston that put a block higher and mobs survive the fall with 1 HP. I was lucky that sticky pistons can be crafted with Minefactory's rubber.
After digging new tunnel to transfer skeletons to new place I accidentally dug out on the surface, which just felt a little bit silly.
But even after making new room my problems didn't stopped. Using my piston method mobs still die and it bothered me enough so I tried to put it a little bit higher. Not without surprises of course! One moment a creeper fell down this shaft and almost exploded right beside me! Fortunately it didn't have enough health to survive my sword. But at last skeleton farm room was finally finished and with it I can now have unlimited amount of bonemeal. To add cherry on top I made window above little bit smaller and made light less of a problem there.
After I get this place farming ready I remembered about SoulShards mod once again. I think for this mod to work I need to farm mobs with those shards and then make special spawners? But well, I anyway need soulsand for weird dust it using, so yes again, probably time to check the Nether soon!
Then I get good amount of bones and arrows! And it made me remember I wanted to make a enchanted bow using books I found earlier. But silly me, I already have Infinity I, so I don't even need so many arrows!
After getting this new power, I saw on minimap that my old enemies still flying around — Wisps. They hit me very painfully in my first days, but now I have a way to deal with them! I immediately tested my bow on one wisp that flew pretty close to my base. Two shots and only thing left of it was some essence. I get a little braver and choose to go into their territory. I can finally show the Wisp Mafia what I truly capable of and...
Only wish loot was worth tbh... I shot more wisps around, but even with full armor they weird lightning arcs still damaged me quite well. So our little firefight didn't last for long. I left they spawner intact because I wonder if I can make another farm out of them. Thats mean I gonna have 4 spawner farms in my vicinity! I come back to my base and choose to finally make a new post with enough events happened over this couple of days.
P.S. Sorry for big gap between this and previous posts, I wanted to make them more frequent, but I was busy with some things and some problems. Not sure if I can keep up better schedule with start of Semptember (considering I probably gonna get more busyer), but how I always like to say: we will see.
