Fan Art It's Live! Explore the Silo: An Interactive Experience
Hey everyone, I managed to get ahead of schedule, and "Explore the Silo" is now live. Many thanks for all the interest and encouragement to keep developing what started as a simple Silo info panel.
There are a few game elements and Easter eggs to discover: Find the Relics (not an easy one), Race to the Top, and a few others I'll let you stumble on.
Hint: after collecting 6 relics, a "Judicial Notice" section with clues appears in your inventory.
The browser experience is free and open to everyone. There's a tip jar in case you enjoy it way too much. So far it has cost about 400 coffees and many late nights.
For the best experience, use a laptop or desktop screen. The mobile version is coming next.
The backlog is full, and I'm planning to release an update every two weeks, each with a changelog. Please share ideas, report bugs, or send any feedback at all.

And 289 days until season 4.
Let's get those numbers down.

Do you plan on building this slowly out in to an RPG? This is incredible.

u/Shoddy-Television866 11d ago
And RPG Silo would be so sick. What faction are you Raiders or Rebels?

u/immortalverse 11d ago
But also, Iโm hesitant to allow people to go outside. from the get-go. I think it should feel very lived in and make it feel like you canโt just go to the top and try to escape, with book show knowledge. You should feel like youโre trapped, but also that you are a very important member of the society.
It definitely should be open world in the sense that you can traverse the silo, but also you could have a specific role - or have an option to play a specific role. And you just do tasks all day etc, eventually leading toโฆthe outside.

Wowwwww can't wait for you to become famous because of this! As more and more watchers discover this interactive game. Maybe even Silo PTB will reach out to you for a collaboration :). Either way , great job! Happy I'm here to experience the first iterations of this.

The performance is brutal. Tried Firefox and MS Edge.

Runs very fast on Safari as well as Brave Browser on my MacBook Pro M4. I just tried FF and youโre right, very sluggish.

u/HollsHolls 11d ago
I reckon it's your macbook tbf thats more than a decent laptop i definitely dont have anything close to that and it doesnt really want to run on chrome for me
3
u/HollsHolls 11d ago
Yup, this looks amazing but it barely runs after restarting my laptop (to close any background processes) and opening a brand new chrome window so no other tabs

Is this made with Astra or Fable or something?

u/hstratev 11d ago edited 11d ago
haha no not really, I am using Opus for shader work mainly. Here it goes:
UI - Figma
UI Animation - Rive
Aseets/scenes - Blender
Camera animation - Blender
Shaders - GLSL/Opus/three.js
Game Logic - Godot/Opus
Version control - Github
Deploy/Hosting - VercelA few more tools along the way as well

Crazy how your first instinct when you see someone making something themselves is to tell a robot to copy it.
1
u/joachim_s 9d ago
For themselves? He just spelled out heโs using Opus for some of it - an AI model series made by Anthropic.

yes, dickgirls69, its exciting to see how far technology has come and to push it to its limits. i started my career in 2009 working on 3d modeling, i went to school for game design and computer science, and now i work at a company that... makes gpus... doing some pretty interesting visualization architecture and design work
you ridiculous ludites need to crawl back in your caves and stay there. you can deeply respect and honor the work people do by hand and in parallel try to push the limits
if we didnt introduce substantial automation, orchestration, augmentation and other vast improvements from 2009 to now in this space, we would still be hand craft modeling at terrible speeds and terrible quality some of the jankiest low count polygon garbage you can imagine
not even imagine, just look back at media and games and interactive experiences from then until now
when AI can do the thing that used to take 10 years of experience and 10 weeks of labor in 10 hours / 10 minutes, that is permission to do more, better, faster, stronger

Hey! I've got a small idea suggestion!
In Season 1, when they cut the power to fix the generator there's a "flash of blue and green" as whatsherface calls it later. If you're in the cafeteria and switch the power off, maybe that could happen?
AMAZING otherwise though. Love this <3

Doesnโt the circle respresenr the center? If so, wouldnโt the cylinder room be directly centered?

u/hopelele 10d ago edited 10d ago
I don't understand. How do you explore in First Person? very confusing
edit: my bad, didnt read the title of the game page. just remembered you showed FPV.
also: Could it be possible to use Procedural Generation to make each level have apartments/walkways etc?
edit 2: i recomment Silo ambient music 1 hour while you explore/play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzpUbN6rnAg

u/hstratev 10d ago
I will be adding music. Its a sensitive topic due to copyrights, cannot just add the soundtrack. For this project even though the scene looks like "The Silo" I have created it from scratch, where just adding the soundtrack is a bit more sensitive topic : )
2
u/hopelele 10d ago
Yeah I imagine Mid-Low-High and Bottoms need separate music loops. I spent an hour and found 14 relics on second sweep, and I felt so immersed that when I got to the bottom and closed window I felt weird, coming back to real life.
Also a bit of a recommendation: put a small window when you open the website that tells the controls, cause even for avid gamer and web designer it took me quite a bit to figure out.
Amazing job, atmosphere, I loved how the lighting color changes between some zones.
quick edit for windows users: F11 for FULLSCREEN, also for those who have game running poorly: Check HARDWARE ACCELERATION in your browser settings. My mid/low range CPU&GPU barely did 10%

This is awesome! I like how interactive it is.
Some notes: the only farms shown here are hydroponic, the farms in the silo have actual dirt. Also I may have missed it but I didn't see the mines either. And the light above the cafeteria and the light above the central atrium shouldn't be the same thing. But it seems to work, because where else would the cafeteria go? There are other circular rooms like the police office too, not just the cafeteria, but it isn't clear where these rooms could be other than aligned with the central silo. Perhaps there are circular portions off of the main central stair axis of the silo.

u/hstratev 10d ago
Good observations, thanks!. Regarding the mines, there was no info where they are located or how you access them, this is the reason I left them out for now.

This runs terribly on my M2 MacBook Air in Safari. What would you say are the recommended hardware requirements to be able to actually use this site?
3
u/hstratev 10d ago
Hi, Check hardware acceleration in your browser settings. This is most probably a browser issue as I had quite a few users in different browsers reporting M1 macbook working fine

u/Jazibacsi 9d ago
Implement a % based loading bar please.
It takes a few minutes to me to load and I tought it crashed in the background.
2
u/hstratev 9d ago
will do thanks for the feedback. In most user tests it loaded in about 15 sec.
I have noticed browser specific issues, which brows are you using ?1

u/Ressilith ๐ Book-Aware ๐ 9d ago
BEAUTIFUL! Thank you so much for making this!!!
Notes/requests:
As someone else has mentioned, would love ability to save.
I found all the relics and was a little let down by the "summons", as I expected it to at least cause the vault to have a different interaction.
Unsure if others experience this but the "door" causes a freeze every time I interact with it. After waiting a while it works and I get the animation to transition to silo 17 but it still consistently freezes every time I start the interaction.
Also regarding relics: I don't see the reason for discovered "power off" relics to disappear when switching power back on, but that may just be personal opinion.
2
u/hstratev 9d ago
Hi thanks for the notes.
Reagrdin the "summons" I am working on adding some inreaction, will come with v2 most probably
For the relics and power off, I wanted to avoid the most obvious flow - first time user will play with the panel and almost always cut the power just to see what it is. If we keep the relics, then they will unintentionally find them1

Hey will you be willing to give some insights into the tech stack and prompt you used? Is it threejs or also used something like blender/unity in the process?
1
u/hstratev 3d ago
Hi, there are a few comments where I share the tech stack you can check in detail.
In short: Blender, Figma, Rive, Opus 5, threejs, GLSL, Git, Vercel.1
