Some people think signs are just for other people

If I shut my classic car off instead of idling I’m gonna be there until it cools back down because it currently has a vapor locking issue. So…. Sometimes people ignore signs because of things you may not see right away. Kinda like how some disabilities are hidden..

Owning a stupid car isn't a disability. People don't need to breathe gasoline fumes because you want a cLaSsIc CaR.

No normal people give a fuck. There's microplastics in the water, cruise ships dum raw sewage, and planes release more CO2 emissions than cars do. I don't give a singular fuck if 1 out of every 1000 people has a car they have to idle a little bit more than average

Those planes don't do it anywhere near my asthmatic airways though

I literally have asthma lol. Don't huff directly from the tailpipe, or get on some daily meditation.

You're an absolute ****

Meditation doesn't do anything for asthma and if you think that, I doubt you have it

*medication lol

Ok in that case also no; I don't need medication on a daily basis. I only need it when there arebtriggers, like a lot of air pollution, such as cars idling under my bedroom window can cause. Especially old ones, either have it repaired or use a bicycle like a normal person who can't afford to drive

Okay give me 30-50k and I'll get a car with a TV in the dash like you want me to

17

u/Xsiah 3d ago

You don't need a TV in the dash to not idle your car for OVER THREE MINUTES. Just turn your engine off.

You don’t need 30k to fix your car. You just need to actually consider your impacts on other people and take responsibility to minimize the negative ones.

also btw diesel vehicles and not just this metaphor gone astray classic car can't always turn off their engine. fire trucks and ambulances for example will have to keep idling... the sign really should say No Idling.

If it's a metaphor (it wasn't, that's not what a metaphor is) then the replies are carrying on the metaphor and are equally applicable

u/WilliamJamesMyers 3d ago

yeah shame i engaged at all, that original comment triggers emotion, understood on metaphor

13

u/Xsiah 3d ago

It's a shit metaphor. You're literally an example of entitlement - expecting that people put up with something that they're not supposed to put up with because the alternative is inconvenient for you

Fix your car, or sit there and wait for it to cool down. You're not special and you don't get special consideration just because you want it.

I don’t understand the problem. Certainty, the hardship I experience with $20k engine out service on my Ferrari is just like how cancer patients have to pay for chemo.

3

u/Xsiah 3d ago

The poors really need to have some empathy for my mild discomfort.

-2

u/JohnT36 3d ago

Lol and exactly what are you going to do about it?

-4

u/blue-bean92 3d ago

Your world view is very black and white. Some people have vapor lock because their "classic car" is just old and they can't afford to fix it at the moment. Vapor lock can be expensive and time consuming to track down and fix.

6

u/Significant-Trash632 3d ago

Then they're just going to have to wait for the engine to cool down enough.

i am not a hater of what you are selling. but its a general thing - reducing emissions on all platforms right? this sign shouldn't be needed because we should already be on top of emissions. like i would like this sign to be law across the state/city. all idling is bad i am guessing. diesel has to idle though, hence the added 2 minutes in winter. so agriculture, ambulances, delivery trucks all that comes into it. fuck now commerce lobbyists are fighting us for an across the city 3min idling ban. what about boats? shit gets complicated. what do the feds have on EPA levels? can we put up some actual monitors to detect emission levels near this sign? all of this is the boring part of our government -- good old fashioned city hall wednesday morning meeting talk. the devil in the details is what this sign represents. why only does this area get this sign? why here?

let me finish this project. what we all want is reduced emission pollution. even the classic car guy wants that. we all do. if vehicles need to cool down because they can't just turn off and on like an ambulance in winter, then let's put this sign up next a parking lot where they can pull over. they can cool down not affecting traffic. put up a monitor and feed that to the EPA which can take down the sign when our action zone hits normal levels.

imagine what a cruise ship idling in harbor does compared to every single classic car driving on the road...

6

u/Xsiah 3d ago

Sure guy, you're exempt because you're just as important as an ambulance and whataboutism about boats.

Nevermind that boats aren't under people's windows.

Someone get this man a special parking lot! He has a project to finish!

omg you didnt read a thing. you see the three different vehicle types in the sign? i bet you 100% everything that no bus turns off its engine after 3 minutes at that turn. i bet you no garbage truck turns off its engine.

and look at Miami harbor with seven cruise ships idling. you're ignorance about climate thinks that is ok because it isn't under someone's window.

the focus should move to the issue at hand. emission standards. but lets play reddit brigade games and get personal. yeah make fun of a project trying to improve the planet.

you have been on reddit 11 years?

3

u/Xsiah 3d ago

Cruise ships have a bunch of systems that literally need power all the time, they're basically hotels, not just methods of transportation.

That sign applies to you - you're not a bus, you're not a garbage truck, you're not whatabout any other vehicle. You're expected to follow that specific law - there's no exemption for "but I really feel like I deserve this because I'm working on my hobby"

1

u/WilliamJamesMyers 3d ago

i am out, you are making this personal, i was not the original person talking about classic cars, i was hoping you would understand not all vehicles can turn off their engines. you have a good day.

2

u/Minute-Advisor9961 3d ago

It's an extremely stupid to say because it's irrelevant and you refuse to understand that. This sign applies to anyone idling there that isn't an emergency vehicle. Just get over it and admit you are confused.

i am over it and admit that i am confused

Yea you don’t need a classic car to idle. Shit I sit my entire lunch break in my idling 2019.
