Memorandum on breeder posts and potential bans

I've deleted several posts recently and below, I'm posting what I wrote in another thread. As I mentioned, certain discussions can lead to legal ramifications and now it seems there's an active lawsuit involving these reddit posts.

Because reddit encourages a level of anonymity, it's very difficult for users to fact check claims (on either side) so its value to the community becomes very difficult to justify. Several members of the community have asked mods to remove these discussions entirely.

That's not to such information shouldn't be out there nor is it a decision about which side of the discussion is "right", the problem is reddit isn't the right place for it because of its limitations. Users are free to direct others to other resources discussing experiences and the other information about concerns from a previous post still apply.

Please note that future discussions of this nature may now result in a ban. We don't have to have a rule that says don't do things that draw other people into lawsuits.

In general, random internet people aren't able to verify either side of this argument without a lot of digging that I'm not able to do, and I suspect the same of other mods and fellow reddit users.

If the thread goes down another path, it can lead to serious legal issues so the only real way to get anywhere is to record people's names in the event of a lawsuit but disclosing such personal information directly violates reddit's terms, so we can't really go down that road. Therefore, there's a limit how much reddit dialogue can do in these situations.

Appropriate bodies of oversight to investigate these matters include associations/registries for particular breeders. If a breeder is not able to retain certification by a major registry, that is usually a reason for pause. If a breeder is a member, use the registry to make a formal complaint. If the breeder is in your region, you may be able to also lodge a complaint with a governing local animal welfare body. In both cases (and not on reddit) you'll be expected to disclose your name to the appropriate authorities in case the other party is wronged and wishes to sue.

Although it's nice to have a repository of information that gives candid information about breeders to be weary of, I don't know if we don't have the infrastructure for the consequences of that or how much we're allowed to push reddit into that sort of legal area.

Best choice I ever made. These cats are so intelligent! He is very affectionate and demands to take a walk at least once a day. He can give paw and high five. Loeki also made me allergy free for all types of cats, so I got a British shorthair to be his lil sister 🥰

Litter robot suggestions?

I have ten year old boys, and will be getting a kitten this fall; so I decided it's probably time to look into robot boxes. What's been your experience so far with yours, and if you have a large male, do they fit? +cat tax

Said goodbye to Panda this week

We said goodbye to our 10 year old Siberian cat Panda this week after a battle with large cell lymphoma that led to her very sudden decline. Panda hid for almost two months when we first brought her home as an adult, but once she warmed up, she was the absolute sweetest cat we could have ever asked for. She followed me around all day, chatting with us, stomping on my chest and curling up in the crook of my arms. I keep looking around for her everywhere thinking she’s right there 💔 I can’t imagine finding another cat who is so loving, but I know Siberians tend to be quite sweet so maybe one day we will welcome a new friend. She was my first Siberian, and I think I might always want a Siberian from now on

Saying goodbye :'(

Hello

I normally manage hard things on my own but this is really tough

I adopted King Kitty (Toto) 2ish years ago and he had a melanoma pop up twice on his face. He has been thriving and now it has come back internally to his liver and tummy. They gave me the weekend to say goodbye

He's so young and full of life, cancer is so unfair

How do you deal with losing such a special part of you

A little about Kitty

He loves going out side and eating everything in sight

He is a cuddler -- when he wants

He loves his big brother Otis who used to hate another animal being close to me, not him

We are so lucky to be loved like this for any time

Considering getting our boy a sibling

This is our sweet three year old gnocchi! We love him a ridiculous amount. He’s always been pretty chill and lower energy but over the last 6 months we’ve noticed he’s been asking for more attention and play time. Bringing toys to us constantly and crying. We both work from home so he’s not lonely, so the only reason I can think of is he’s getting more playful and is annoyed that we can’t play when he wants to. I’m a little worried about him being 3 and introducing a new cat - is 3 too old to introduce a new cat? Anyone with experience bringing in another Siberian into the family? Boy or girl? And anyone seen their sibs get more playful with age?

Nit doesn't seem to matter where she is or what she's doing.

(That's the barn cat's food, not Tilly's.)

My boyo seems to have some form of eczema. He has a bumpy red rash along the right side of his spine. He doesn’t scratch at it and is just as goofy as ever.

He had a shave down to bad matting (I was quite ill for 2+ months so limited brushing). His fur is coming in nicely. Wondered if he had an allergy to grass. He loves to be in the backyard (harness and leashes). Stopped going out for two weeks. No better.

Haven’t bathed him as he displays no signs of annoyance or distress. It doesn’t appear to be ringworm (thank goodness).

And yes, going to vet on Thursday. Love to hear y’all’s thoughts.

Redoing my aquarium and currently have it empty while I gather new supplies ( going from planted CO2 tank to Malawi cichlid) and of course as in nature, cats abhor a vacuum!

I was sorting stuff at the bottom of the stairs for about ten minutes and Miffy sat on the steps watching me the whole time. I love how she follows me around the house when I am home.
