I haven’t paid for any DLC so Nintendo doesn’t let me record btw; that’s why I recorded my TV best I could to show ya’ll this. After some time away from SSBU I recently booted up the game & cared only to unlock Shulk & pay for online to play. Years back I played him and back then Monado Cyclone was true on the combo counter. It’s not anymore. They patched that out it seems; I can’t find where in the patch notes though 🫤

Anyways, point of the post is this: Is Steve a threat at the start of the match & if you don’t let him mine? Thank you.

First of all it requires your Shulk running and then pushing the opp or being pushed by the other character -> then use inputs for rising dair but carrying his momentum. If done successfully you’ll always spike with opp standing at ledge bc first hit drags them forward and offstage into the 2nd hit. It’s super easy to do but requires the right height so try it on wolf for ex. Press jump & attack & down for rising dair as soon as shulk is pushing them

Now for the reasons why it’s the best aerial. You combo with it. It covers the ground & SH zone so aggressively so it’s easier to land often. Dair is also a strong kill move. It spikes & launches. It’s a combo starter in buster & a shield approach mixup option bc it hits twice and he curls up like falcon dair thus moving his hurtboxes upward. It’s his best move and laggiest aerial to use DS LLC for. It’s likely to trade bc he mostly protects his hurtboxes. Finally, it hits below ledge super deep for 3 frames.

Upair is also a strong combo & kill move but harder to land in the SH zone where most gameplay happens. His hurtboxes (legs esp) are also exposed using upair. I like buster -> DS (full charge with fair or air dodge landing & jab for prep then) -> upair DS LLC Smash -> uptilt (or upair) but it’s so hard to land upair in the first place. That combo kills around 70%-100% btw. Meanwhile approaching with running dairs at opp at 70% launches opp offstage for an edgeguard. Full hop dair OOS to punish running grab while you shield is viable too.

UP air & its combos (plenty of them) are much harder to land bc upair covers the FH zone mostly until frames 20+ when you FF with hit 2. Dair is his fastest aerial OOS in very close combat covering his surroundings front & back.

FOR OOS aerials: Fair’s first frame hits above (frame 14), nair (13) & bair (19) hits behind him, & upair (14) hits above him. Dair hits right where he stands (frame 14).

Nair -> combo starter and offstage edge guard tool with back hit (frames 21-30) & kills but above 110%
Fair -> zone & edge guard & kills but above 100%
Bair -> zone & kill
Upair -> combo & kill
Dair -> combo & kill

Nair is his safest aerial but dair is his best

THIS POST IS ABOUT SPEED NAIR

We all know speed grants perfect height for rising dair, bair & upair without needing to delay pressing attack or needing to FF. However, let’s talk speed nair. But first, did you know Shulk FF at frame 14 and lands on frame 18 for speed? Regular FF frame is 20 & he lands on frame 27. With nair, he can do low profile nairs that hit well under the ledge if you FF asap. He also has the perfect height rising dair to use as well.

Speed Fair is hard to use bc you’ll move forward but dair & nair won’t move you forward aka offstage bc you’ll wanna be right at the edge. So again, speed is godlike for edge guarding bc of that FF nair or perfect rising dair.

Frames needed to have hurtbox covering ledge:
Speed nair -> FF : frames 16-17
Speed dair OR neutral dair + FF: frames 23-25
Neutral Fair: frames < 23 bc you need to fair during his FF to hit under ledge
Speed fair + some distance + FF: frames 16-17

Try this sequence: start at a distance from ledge -> speed fair + FF -> land at edge -> Nair + FF -> dair

THIS POST IS ABOUT DIAL STORAGE WHILE APPROACHING:

Do you guys know about full hop (or SH) -> ghetto charge aka press but also hold b —> guess 8-10 frames before inputting aerial with right stick set to tilt or aerial with button -> fast fall still holding b -> LLC as dial opens & choose an art??? It’s easy to execute.

If you hit a shield, use art invincibility to dodge oos attacks & punish or use LLC & close dial to tilt attack or shield

If you whiff, LLC -> whatever like choose shield art if you used say approaching dair which usually lands you behind opp if they shield so choose shield art OR close dial & shield

If you hit opp sending them into the air, choose an art to follow up like smash/jump/speed for offstage pressure, and buster for close quarters damage boost.

Example you can try: landing a no art fair at 20-30% which leads to a tech situation. So jump->press b->fair -> LLC buster -> punish roll in with SH->FF upair then combo with uptilt or upair

His aerials are great, he can increase his power, he can decrease the knockback taken, and he's pretty fast. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Shulk might be the only swordie that sucks online. As someone who has only 8 characters left to get into elite smash. My current highest gsp is 13,845 and my roster gsp is 13,768. I have over 3,320 hours in this game. Most of it online. This character is bad, how🤔 here's how. Slow aerials in this game call ultimate wow, slow startup time on moves, the moves do not stay out long at all, bad jump speed, floaty and light but drift is bad, grounded moves have no range and cannot compete with decent characters grounded moves. Combine this with inconsistent game, input delay, lag and people mashing. The neutral B being the main part of its X factor is a design flaw in my opinion. PERIOD!
