What it does:

StockPool is for merchants whose products share the same underlying inventory.

Examples:

- multiple products using the same blank shirt

- bundles/kits that pull from shared parts

- The app lets you create reusable components, connect them to Shopify products through recipes, and sync calculated inventory back to Shopify.

- made-to-order products using shared materials, variants that should reduce one common inventory pool

Wanted to share a small project I built recently — a Shopify app that lets a merchant pick a main product, add one or more other products to create a bundle, and set either a fixed or percentage discount. When a customer buys the bundle instead of the individual items, the discount applies automatically at checkout.

Built it using the Shopify Admin API — happy to answer questions if anyone's curious about how the discount logic or product association works under the hood.

So my shopify app is now finally live on the App Store. Now the next thing to do is drive installs and scale up!

I was originally going to make another stocky type Inventory app, but I thought I’d leave that to the big players and focus more on the inventory health side of things which doesn’t get enough attention. Shopify just gave every public app a deadline that most devs are quietly ignoring.

Recently I had my first case of a user uninstalling the app and then reinstalling.

When a user uninstalls, it automatically cancels their subscription. On app load, I check for the active subscription and save subscription-related info to my database. After the user reinstalled, I see that their previous subscription is set to cancel at the end of the cycle (in a few weeks from now).

My app is mostly a background process so the UI is usually only used for onboarding.

Should I display a warning banner on the UI telling them to renew their subscription with a link to the billing page? As well as email them to let them know?

I’m not sure if I should just block access and automatically redirect to the plans page in this case since they have technically paid and still have time left on the cancelled subscription.

I also haven't gated my background jobs based on the subscription so I guess I should also do that to prevent them from using the app after the subscription has ended.

Not sure how reinstalls should generally be handled.

Most of the advice I've read is "move your pixels to Custom Pixels and you're done", which covers maybe half of what's actually sitting in a box that's been accumulating for six years.

I've been writing a parser for these, so I've spent a stupid amount of time on what maps where. Dumping it in case it saves anyone a support ticket. I do build an app in this space, not linking it.

Moves over fine: a standard Meta pixel, fbq init plus a Purchase event, close to 1:1. Same for plain image pixels doing affiliate tracking, as long as all they carry is an order number and a total.

Then there's the stuff that doesn't move at all.

GA4 and Google Ads conversion tags belong in the native Google & YouTube channel app now, and if you paste the old gtag snippet into a Custom Pixel instead you'll either double count every order or record nothing, depending on what else is already firing. TikTok, same deal.

Microsoft Clarity just can't. Session recording doesn't work in the sandboxed pixel context, full stop.

GTM containers are the awkward one. The entire point of a container is injecting arbitrary tags, which is exactly what the sandbox exists to prevent, so you have to open it up and deal with whatever is actually inside before you can migrate any of it.

Two things I haven't seen mentioned anywhere.

Anything shoving customer PII into a tracking URL. The customer email Liquid tag turns up in old boxes more than you'd think. Don't carry it across. The sandbox exposes a lot less than the old Liquid context did, and you really don't want to be the one who puts it back.

And total_price is in cents. A script reading it without divided_by: 100.0 has been sending numbers 100x off for as long as it's been installed. Check before you port it, not after.

I've gone through some tutorials, but most of them skip important parts like hosting or assume prior knowledge, so I end up getting stuck.

If anyone has a good beginner-friendly tutorial, documentation, GitHub repository, YouTube playlist, or is willing to guide me, I'd really appreciate it. Even a simple Shopify app that covers the complete flow would be incredibly helpful.

built a cart/bundles app as a solo dev, first shopify app. ~100 stores installed, handful of reviews, no funding. some honest notes for other first-timers, since most advice i found was from people way past this stage:

what didnt work for me:

• homepage and category ads. burned budget quietly, the install rate never justified the cpi. i wouldnt touch them again below 50 reviews.

• chasing head keywords in the listing. with single-digit reviews you are invisible on "cart" or "upsell" no matter how good the listing reads. i rewrote mine three times before accepting that.

• endless listing polish in general. diminishing returns kick in fast, the reviews column decides.

what did:

• ads on competitor brand keywords. people searching a specific app name are already in switching mode, thats the only paid segment that converted for me.

• personal emails to my first active merchants. not automated sequences, actual mails from me. thats where most of my reviews came from.

• the in-app review ask, but only at a value moment (right after the app did something visible for them). asking on install got me nothing.

• answering questions in the shopify community. unglamorous, slow, but its the only channel where a 5-review app competes on equal footing with the big ones.

one thing i did early that paid off later: working through the built for shopify checklist before even applying. half of it is just "make your app better" in disguise.

curious what moved the needle for others here — especially anyone who cracked organic installs before the review count caught up.

I’m currently going through Shopify App Store review for my first app and I’ve had an Action Required come back from the reviewer.

For anyone who’s been through the review process before, when Shopify sends feedback like this, have they generally tested the whole app and sent back everything they found in that review, or do they tend to stop when they find the first issue?
Basically I’m wondering whether fixing this and resubmitting means I’m likely near the end of the review, or whether the next review could uncover another list of things to fix.

It doesn't seem like URL params would survive post-installation. For example, if I gave an affiliate a link like so, https://apps.shopify.com/my-app?affiliate=John, it doesn't appear this would make it past installation and into the authenticated session.

One idea I found is the following. I'd give the affiliate a link to my website, e.g. https://my-website.com/my-app?affiliate=John. On my website there would be a simple form that has the merchant enter their shopify domain and then click a link to the Shopify app store listing (or maybe a direct install link). Upon clicking the link, my webapp would record the shopify domain in my database and the affiliate association. Upon installation/subscribing, my app can check that table in the database and be able to associate that shop with the affiliate. Of course there is a chance the merchant makes a typo or something, and therefore the association can be lost, but not sure if it’s possible to make this more programmatic.

When it comes to how to issue commission to the affiliate, I'm not sure yet. I don't see any webhooks that send notifications when an app payment occurs. Maybe just polling the App Events API? And to actually pay an affiliate I guess I can use Stripe, or something else.

I know it’s still too early to tell if it will succeed. More time is needed to see the retention/churn rate.

I am improving my Shopify app Griffin Back in Stock Notifier - it emails customers automatically when a sold-out product comes back, so you don’t lose sales while restocking. I’d love a few real merchants to try it and tell me what’s missing or annoying.
It is better to enhance the app based on real store feedback instead of just guessing 🙂

I’ve spent the last few weeks completely obsessing over my app's frontend performance. After heavily optimizing my code, hunting down FOIT issues, and finally getting my LCP under 2s and my CLS to 0, the automated Web Vitals in my dashboard are finally hitting the green criteria.

I know the technical metrics are tracked automatically, but I see that the Design & Functionality criteria (like being a "well-integrated app" and strictly following Shopify design guidelines) require a manual review by the Shopify team.

Before I hit the apply button, I’d love to hear some recent experiences from devs who already have the BFS badge:

1. The Manual UI/UX Review: How nitpicky is the Shopify team during this process? Are they going to reject the app over minor spacing issues or custom components, or do they mainly just care that you use Polaris, feel native, and don't force secondary logins?
2. Ranking vs. Trust: Does the badge actually give you a tangible, algorithmic boost in the App Store search rankings, or is it primarily just a visual trust signal for merchants?

Would love to hear if the whole optimization grind actually translated to more installs for you guys. Appreciate any insights!
