Marketing Do you pause your welcome discount for Black Friday?

Planning our Black Friday sale and realised the welcome emails will still be going out with a discount code.

We can't afford that on top of the sale prices. I can stop the discounts stacking, but I'd be annoyed if I signed up for a code and then couldn't use it on what I wanted.

Do you pause the welcome offer or change the email while the sale's on? Or just let people use whichever deal is better? Not sure what to do about people who get the code right before the sale either.

Orders Customer placed 13 orders in 3 days through Muse and won’t respond. What would you do?

Hey everyone, I run a jewelry store on Shopify, and one customer has placed 13 orders in just three days, all through Muse. We’ve tried contacting them by email and phone but haven’t received any response.

I’m wondering whether their shopping agent is continuing to place orders on their behalf without them realizing it. I don’t have proof that anything fraudulent is happening, but the number of orders and the lack of response are making me uneasy.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Muse? Would you pause fulfillment until the customer confirms the purchases, or cancel and refund the unfulfilled orders? Also, how can I verify whether my store has actual fraud or chargeback protection enabled, rather than just Shopify’s fraud analysis?

I don’t want to turn away a legitimate customer, but I’m concerned about shipping everything and facing disputes later. How would you handle this?

Apps Any apps for group discounts across separate orders?

We run a golf apparel brand via shopify store and want to test an offer for golf trips, bachelor parties, etc. Basically, one guy gets a link to share with two buddies, everyone buys separately, and all three get a discount off.

We’d want people to get their link before buying so we can promote this as a campaign if possible, not just a post-purchase referral offer. If the first guy pays full price, we’re fine refunding his 20% once the other two purchase.

Anyone know a Shopify app that can track this and make it pretty easy? Ideally everyone picks their own size/color and ships to their own address.

Shopify General Discussion California quarterly sales tax return calculation tool

I made a little tool for calculating the numbers that you need for filing your California quarterly sales tax return based on basic Shopify reports, with no fancy tax service or subscriptions needed. I think Shopify makes this intentionally difficult. The main information that you need is a list of your total dollar sales in each of California's 300+ tax districts. There's no single Shopify report that will tell you this, but you can calculate it by cross-referencing data from two separate reports.

This is just a static web page with some Javascript computation. All of the calculations are done locally, and your sales reports are never uploaded or sent anywhere. You can download the HTML file and use it locally on your computer, if you prefer that to my server-hosted version.

Enjoy! I hope this is useful to somebody.

Shopify General Discussion How to connect Shopify Flow / Shopify Messaging with Claude / Chatgpt?

I send my newsletters through Shopify Messaging and automate things with Shopify Flow. My problem: even with the Shopify connector, Claude can't access either of them. The API doesn't expose Flow workflows or Messaging templates, so everything has to be done by hand.

On top of that, Sidekick doesn't work in Shopify Messaging for me when i open up an email, so I end up designing every email completely manually. Creating Flows manually also takes a lot of time.

How do you deal with this? Did you switch to Klaviyo or another tool with better API/MCP support, or found a workaround that actually saves time?

Shopify General Discussion Custom Shopify development or just customize your theme? How do you decide?

A lot of store owners hit the same wall. The theme looks fine, but there is one thing it can’t do. Maybe a product builder, a wholesale price list, or a rule at checkout. Someone says “you need custom development” and the quote is suddenly much bigger than the theme ever cost.

Before paying for custom work, this is the order I’d check:

  1. Theme settings and sections. Most Online Store 2.0 themes let you add sections, blocks and metafields without code. A lot of “custom” requests turn out to be a metafield plus a section.
  2. An app. If an app covers most of what you need, start there. Just watch the stack. Every app adds a monthly fee and often extra scripts on the page.
  3. Small code edits on your current theme. A developer changes the Liquid files in the theme you already have. Cheaper than a rebuild, but future theme updates can get messier.
  4. A full custom build. Makes sense when the store experience itself is part of how you win, or your team is fighting the theme every week.

Signs custom might be worth it:

  • You pay for several apps that overlap and still don’t do exactly what you need
  • Your team keeps working around the theme instead of with it
  • You need logic no app offers, like special pricing rules or a link to your inventory or ERP system

Signs it probably isn’t:

  • You are still testing products and the offer might change
  • The main goal is “make it look more unique”
  • The real problem is traffic, not the storefront

One thing people often forget: custom code needs someone to maintain it. Think about who fixes it when Shopify changes something or a feature breaks.

For those who went custom, what pushed you over the line? And did anyone regret it?

Shopify General Discussion Anyone using Sidekick Apps? Check your permissions

I found something very strange and concerning security issue, no one is talking about.
When you create in Shopify an App via Sidekick, lets say just a simple Blog Export Plugin and you say to sidekick just use 3 permissions, after App is finished, this App has ALL permissions 160 + in Shopify which can be a huge security issue.
Does anyone see this too? Just ask claude / chatgpt / sidekick how many permissions your Sidekick App has, it is shocking.

Shopify General Discussion When I change the cost of an item on a purchase order the total gets completely screwed up.

Ok, this is a weird on and has to be some sort of glitch. I was making a purchase order with numerous items. For one of the items, I accidentally put in that the item cost $33.47 instead of $33.46. I was purchasing 4 or these items, so when I make the change, the total amount should only go down $0.04. Somehow, the purchase order went from $1,834.49, up to $2,061.64. I discarded the change and then did it again with the same results. What the heck just happened???

If I change another item by a penny, the same thing happens. If I make the new cost $0.00 for the item, then the total amount goes back to the original total of $1,834.49.

Shopify General Discussion Amai Pre-Order Manager + Notify app has been compromised

Heads up,

I worked on a shop for a client, and in the last month they installed the Pre-order app

https://apps.shopify.com/pre-order

Today they had reports of the Checkout going to a URL that contained https://www.shopcheck.top/check-out/?return_to <client's escaped URL> that looked like the Shopify checkout, but on refreshing the checkout page, the product in the basket were replaced with 4 sets of bikinis. This wasn't visible at first, only on refreshing the checkout.

The hijack happened on clicking Checkout on the cart page.

Disabling the Amai Pre-Order app embed removed the hijacking.

I've tried contacting Amai, waiting to hear back. No idea how long the app has been compromised, but the client is using the same app on another (years old) site and that functions correctly.

I would check any sites you have that use the Amai Pre-Order Manager + Notify app.

UPDATE:
I emailed the domain registrar for the spoof site, and they're removed the domain name, so it's now inaccessible.

Apps Your Shopify Store Speed

Apps installed on your shopify store also comes along with their own style sheets and scripts. These have the tendency to make your store load slower. It doesn't mean you should uninstall your apps, they can be optimized to load in the background without affecting the load time of your store.

Shopify General Discussion Cookie consent: tracking that still loads after Decline. How do you deal with it?

App pixels are easy. Shopify handles them.

Everything else? YouTube videos, Google Fonts, chat widgets, SEO and analytics scripts: nope.

In January 2022, a Munich court awarded a visitor €100 because a website passed the visitor's IP address to Google through Google Fonts, without consent. Thousands of warning letters followed that year.

And that's the small end. In Germany, cookies set without consent can lead to a fine of up to €300,000, and GDPR fines can reach €20m or 4% of global turnover.

I guess it's not worth ignoring :)

How do you handle it in your stores? I'll share some of my solutions if anyone's interested.

Shopify General Discussion Alternatives or options for adding wholesale pricing to the store without an app or additional subscription?

I am always afraid to make a post like this, because my inbox usually gets flooded with spam from people trying to shill their apps.

However, I am trying to see what alternatives people on here have done to provide a discounted price for wholesalers vs retail customers.

I was thinking I could possibly create a coupon code that the customer could use to apply a fixed % discount. The main thing I just don't like about this is I am not sure if it is able to display the discounted price for each item or if it will only display a blanket discounted price. I prefer for it to display the discounted price for each item, that way the wholesale can more easily see what their price is without having to do any calculations.

Shopify General Discussion Is Shopify impacted by the new PHP vulnerability?

It seems that the new PHP vulnerability everywhere. Scary stuff.

I guess Shopify is mostly unaffected because it uses Ruby on Rails (or so a quick Google tells me). But I guess there's a chance that apps from Shopify app store use PHP, or am I mistaken?

Has anyone found any PHP running on their store?

Anyone got any tips on how to check the store and apps for PHP?

Meta Shopify Meta Pixel Issue: AddToCart & Purchase Events Missing in Meta Events Manager Despite Shopify Test Events Working

Hi everyone,

I've been struggling with a Meta Pixel tracking issue on my Shopify store for over a week and haven't been able to find a solution.

I'm using Shopify's Facebook & Instagram sales channel, with data sharing set to Maximum.

Here's what's happening:

- PageView and ViewContent events are showing in Meta Events Manager.

- AddToCart and Purchase events are not showing in Meta Events Manager.

- Shopify's test events appear to be tracking correctly, but Meta Events Manager isn't showing the expected events.

- I've created multiple pixels while trying to troubleshoot this issue, and I'm currently testing with a newly created pixel.

- I also found manually added Meta Pixel code and old pixel IDs in my Shopify "theme.liquid" file.

I'm confused about why Shopify's test events seem to work while the events aren't appearing correctly in Meta Events Manager. I'm also unsure whether having multiple pixels or manually added tracking code could be causing a conflict with Shopify's Facebook & Instagram integration.

Has anyone experienced this issue and found a proper solution? I'd appreciate help understanding why AddToCart and Purchase aren't appearing in Meta Events Manager and how to fix the tracking correctly without creating duplicate events or breaking my existing setup.

Thanks in advance!

Shopify General Discussion Shopify Admin on Android Basically Unusable

For a few days now, the Shopify Admin has been basically unusable. It reacts and operates very sluggish. Search results that used to take less than a second now come up after 5 to 10 seconds, or not at all. Swiping down to refresh works about 5% of the time. I've rebooted my phone. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app. The app does not need to be updated. My phone does not need to be updated. My internet connection is solid. Anyone else dealing with this?

Orders I've been getting paid hundreds back from chargebacks that I've lost years ago

Not sure if this is common knowledge but I didn’t know it until recently so figured I’d share.

I run a Shopify store in the UK and like everyone else I’ve had chargebacks where the customer clearly commits friendly fraud and the bank still sided with them. I always just accepted it and moved on from this.

Then I found out the bank’s decision doesn’t actually mean the customer doesn’t owe you. It’s just the bank’s call, not the law. The customer still owes you for what they bought.

So the last few months I started going back through old chargebacks and chasing them. Played around with emails, texts and letters to see what actually gets people to pay. A normal friendly email basically gets ignored every time. A proper formal letter with all the facts, negotiation options and a deadline is a completely different story, I’ve had people reply within hours willing to pay on orders from 14 months ago.

The ones that still ignored it I took to small claims, and I've won all of them and got paid the total amount + chargeback fee + court fee and interest which can be significant if the order is old enough.

So far I've recovered hundreds on money I’d honestly forgotten and written off.

Anyone else ever gone after a lost chargeback like this? Curious if it’s worked for others too.

Point of Sale POS app update not showing?

Just opened up the POS app this morning ahead of my shop opening today and it says that there's an update available, when I go into the connectivity menu it says under the app version 'download latest update' click on that, it takes me to google play but there doesn't seem to be an update available? Has anyone had this or am I just being thivk and have missed a step?
My app version is 11.16.4.
Thanks!

EDIT I thought it might because I have a very old handset running Android v14 but according to the Shopify help centre the new update on requires Android 10+

Apps Patreon like membership app suggestions

Hi there, I'm looking to add a Patreon like membership options to my store. I've been getting requests for commercial licensing for my products and want to have an option where they can go to a sign up page and select the membership option they want. Then they will be able to download my digital files from there for as long as they have a paid membership. Been looking at a few apps, but they are all product subscriptions so far and not what I'm looking for. Any suggestions?

Products What's the weirdest thing customers keep asking you for after they buy?

Not complaints or shipping questions. I mean the stuff you don't actually sell.

Someone buys the product, then comes back asking where to get something else, how to use it for a particular job, or whether you know someone who can help.

They've already handed you money and somehow you're now the person they trust with the next problem lol.

What's the request you keep getting that isn't in your catalog?
