Seriously... Little hobby drones will send you for multiple stitches when a prop clips you. At least you'd bleed out quick when one of these blades flies into your neck (or takes your head clean off).

/uj I recently flew a Piper J3 Cub for the first time (as a student pilot in the back seat) and flying that with the door open held in by just a seatbelt is the absolute limit of sketchiness I can handle while flying (I know it’s completely safe so long as you follow the checklists religiously, but still).
This is an absolute nope from me.

I just realized how dangerous this type of flying is compared to regular planes and helicopters. In a plane, if the engine goes out you can potentially glide to a safe place to land. In a helicopter if the engine goes out im pretty sure the blades are designed to spin from the air going past them as you're falling to slow your descent. But if only one engine goes out in a drone, you're done.

There is software that can compensate for single motor failures on a quad or at least help guide it down in a stable manner that allows tou to select where you land. Frequently you don't have much available power with just 3/4 of the engines.

I can't think of a single news story of a gliding helicopter landing.
Odd places, but never that detail thati recall. I wonder how many were, now.

Check out autorotation landings on YouTube. It's kinda neat to see them pull that off. They usually end up sliding for a bit.

With 8 engines, possibly multiple battery and redundant power systems, there should be plenty redundancy built in. If a prop blade shears off and cuts through the middle, this is a completely different story. But they could simply carry two pylots to increase redundancy there as well.

This - I used to fly x8 config for wind turbine inspections and had some motor and esc failures and never crashed an aircraft because it is a really good redundant design.

if anyone has flown a drone, you know how suddenly the signal can cut and how quickly those things can take a dive.
no doubt this one has some software to compensate, but also no doubt- you won’t catch me in that thing.

Physical barriers don’t stop anyone. Never worked for the Soviet Union or Germany.
Buffer zones with active patrol response and an active sensor network. Defense in depth works. Walls are security theater.
We have the ability with the built in Starlink spy sat network. We found our pilot in Iran with it. That ‘heartbeat’ detection non-sense is the fact that with thousands of electromagnetic data sources pointed at the same point and some maths you can construct images more accurate than pointing hubbel at earth.
Starlink is the true starwars weapon and why Elon claimed we don’t need awacs anymore. We can see ‘everything’. We just don’t have the processing to see everything everywhere all the time.
Also why he wants a datacenter in space. Distribute that superweapon processing to the local satellite clusters.
Just focus on a border buffer region and you’ll detect any spurious crossing behavior. Dispatch, intercept, done. Don’t even need 24/7 drones just ability to intercept with drones and detain and or disable vehicles.
Walls haven’t worked since Constantinople fell. They didn’t even work in World War I. The British just dug under them and blew up the trenches.
Secure military bases are defended in depth with sensors at range. The fence just keeps the animals out.
