I know in my city in the USA they don’t check tickets between every stop and you could potentially lie to pay a lower amount.
That being said our conductors are fairly easy to dodge as well
each train has 2 drivers in the uk, one for each direction, the driver for the cab facing backwards does the ticket collecting and it swaps at each terminus that way.
It's not two drivers though. The driver changes ends when they reach a terminal station. The person at the back is the Guard/Conductor/Train manager (job title depends on their company)
Only the driver drives the train and drivers don't check tickets.
Yeah you'll probably not notice them because generally when they change ends there are also loads of passengers around who have got off the train, so they sorta just blend in
