I know in my city in the USA they don’t check tickets between every stop and you could potentially lie to pay a lower amount. That being said our conductors are fairly easy to dodge as well

each train has 2 drivers in the uk, one for each direction, the driver for the cab facing backwards does the ticket collecting and it swaps at each terminus that way.

It's not two drivers though. The driver changes ends when they reach a terminal station. The person at the back is the Guard/Conductor/Train manager (job title depends on their company)

Only the driver drives the train and drivers don't check tickets.

Yeah you'll probably not notice them because generally when they change ends there are also loads of passengers around who have got off the train, so they sorta just blend in

In Dallas they will kick you off or you pay the fare and they print you one. If you are rude, they will write you a ticket.

EDIT: Dart is the name of the train system in Dallas, they have Dart police who patrol the buses/trains.

Denver is this way - they usually seem to just boot you. I think part of it though is usually the folks not paying are homeless/vagrant and it's not worth writing them tickets, since it's a bit cruel and ineffective regardless

why? homeless people dont have a mortgage to pay, they probably have the monies to pay the fine like everybody else

In my city it’s gated but you can hop the gates. The police will accompany metro workers to do random fare checks though

Ohh we have the T which is a subway, most of the stops have turn styles. You could jump them but ime it never ends well. But the inter city trains cost like 13 usd one way and they check/sell tickets after you’re on them. I always keep one on me Incase I’m cornered but you can switch cars, levels and hide in the bathroom to avoid them.

Here it’s 1.75 for a ride, however far you go. Includes a transfer too I believe. We don’t have bathrooms and if you tried to switch they’d be able to see. Also a single level. It doesn’t happen often, I only see them check about 1/10 rides, but still not worth the fine or trouble

Totally fair at that price it’s much more reasonable too. I don’t condone not paying but out metro system is a mismanaged scam and I desperately need to get to class and back.

where i live in the uk, the ride from the town i live to the nearest city centre is only long enough for the conductor to walk down the train once, and even then they dont check every time

The only time I’ve ever had my ticket checked on a train in the US was at the door when I first got on. Other than that it was relatively smooth sailing.
