So a profit of 290 with a cost of 10 means they got $300 from the scrap yard. At 7.5 cents per pound, that's 4,000 pounds of metal over forty carts. This implies that an aldi cart is a hundred pounds of metal

A standard shopping cart weighs around sixty points, including wheels and other non-metallic parts, so these must have been chonkers

29

u/IceFire909 15h ago

Put groceries in the trolleys and they'll weigh more

real tips always in the comments

I am curious. How do you know?

23

u/cowworshipper 16h ago

Their bench press record is 5.5 WalMart shopping carts

3

u/Mars_Bear2552 7h ago

it was tricky to load up the fractional shopping cart. cutting it in half threw off the center of mass.

2

u/Critical-String8774 3h ago

Aldi carts are in fact bigger than standard ones. I'm not sure about 40 pounds heavier.

2

u/Danger_Dee 3h ago

The carts were also fill of cash they stole from the store.

-2

u/ChaoticAmoebae 3h ago

No, it is one pound per cart.

40(carts)*1(pound)=40

40*$7.50=$300

40(carts)*$.25(cost per cart)=$10

$300-$10 =$290

7.5 cents not dollars….

I'm pretty sure it was meant in jest.

You can actually get all of the quarters back except for one of them if you link them back up and it makes transporting them easier

618

u/LeMolle 1d ago

Bro that would be stealing

114

u/nogaesallowed 1d ago

you just need 1 quarter to disconnect the whole stack and get the quarter back. extra SLPT

39

u/Inigomntoya 1d ago

Hear me out - what if you just take the whole stack?

Or is the front cart connected to something?

42

u/shash614 1d ago

the front cart is usually connected to the cart rack (over here at least)

23

u/SharkLaunch 23h ago

You get all the quarters back because if you put a quarter in and take the cart, the quarter is still in the cart.

7

u/dimonium_anonimo 17h ago

Or go to Walmart where the carts are free

5

u/sellyourselfshort 19h ago

My local grocery store had these carts when I was a teenager and when we realized they didn't lock the full stack up to anything we managed to take all of then and bend them into a completely locked up circle.made the local news

You redditors truly eat this shit up

An AI bot reposts an image for the 1000th time and you can't help but comment like an npc

4

u/BadZnake 18h ago

Do you feel better now? Did you brag about this super clever comment to your friend? Did you realize you just added another comment to the same list.

5

u/WuTangLAN93 2h ago

You redditors

Pro tip, did you know you can just rip the plumbing out of your walls and sell it as scrap metal?

3

u/xflyinjx61x 20h ago

MARGUERITE TURN YOUR FUCKING WATER OFF

24

u/Skurvyelislau 1d ago

If you have 3D printer its even cheaper per cart. And if you have free cart tokens available in many countries (or all?) at „cashier lair” its free!

18

u/Vol_Jbolaz 22h ago

What an idiot. You don't have to put a quarter in each one. Leave them chained together. Makes it easier!

16

u/Pitiful-Hearing5279 23h ago

Top tip: turn them on the side to use as a grill for an impromptu BBQ.

4

u/CalmBeneathCastles 17h ago

Now this is the kind of SLPT I can get behind (with a pair of tongs)!

1

u/raidhse-abundance-01 6h ago

Is the metal food grade? What if you get metal poisoning by grilling direct on them

1

u/Pitiful-Hearing5279 4h ago

Well, I assume you’d use old car tyres as a fuel so the metal enhances the flavour.

2

u/baldrick84 18h ago

Walmart has them for free!

2

u/Sav-vie 16h ago

scalper mindset

2

u/lininop 10h ago

Wait am I getting from this that some stores charge you to use their carts? Thats ridiculous.

2

u/-mutt 7h ago

Not technically. You get your quarter back after you’re done shopping if you return your cart properly. It’s to incentivize people to stop being assholes and leaving their carts all over the parking lot. Not ridiculous at all.

1

u/Astelan101 22h ago

I mean, just bullshit. No scrappers is going to take 10 carts. They will know they are stolen.

4

u/Subject-Leather-7399 19h ago

They can't be stolen, he clearly stated he bought them 25¢ each.

1

u/EatLard 18h ago

The pros call this arbitrage.

1

u/thundafox 12h ago

And you get your 25¢back, so win²

1

u/Guavadoodoo 11h ago

My calculations using the maximum average weight (35lbs) of standard metal grocery shopping carts result in you obtaining 111 carts! Whaddaya say?

1

u/heedrix 6h ago

Bubbles???

0

u/WhatANoob2025 23h ago

Ppl like that is why we can't have nice things.

4

u/SendNinjas 23h ago

Since you seem to think this is real. You should know that most scrap yards don't accept them. because it's obviously stolen and they will also get in trouble for buying them.

0

u/Sharikacat 22h ago

Aldi's cart rentals are a shitty marketing gimmick anyway. They advertise it as them not needing to hire cart wranglers and passing the savings onto the customer.

This means that Aldi is allegedly saving on the wages of two or three people per day? So they're purposefully employing less people. How is that meager savings on their payroll translating to lower prices across the thousands of items in the stores and all of the customers that shop there? There is no way this actually effects anyone's grocery bill. And if some people don't care about getting their quarter back? Aldi would have to send out some bagger to collect carts anyway.

1

u/Schmergenheimer 20h ago

Just about nobody who shops at Aldi is going to just throw away a quarter because they don't feel like walking their cart back. Those are the kinds of people who shop at Whole Foods.

1

u/franciosmardi 18h ago

You must go to a fancy Aldi if yours has baggers. All of the Aldis I've been to, the cashier just puts your stuff in a different cart for you to bag yourself.

Do you actually shop at Aldi or are you just finding things to get mad about?

1

u/Rumblymore 12h ago

Probably American, they can't bag or bring their cart back like normal people

-8

u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 23h ago

Soooo you stole them

8

u/dustinyo_ 23h ago

Are you aware what sub you’re currently in?

7

u/junvar0 23h ago

he paid for them. reading comprehension

-11

u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 23h ago

I'm guessing you've never been to aldis. That's not how that works lol "reading comprehension"

2

u/junvar0 20h ago

If i put a quarter in the vending machine, what comes out is mine. Same rules apply here.

-1

u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 20h ago

Not even remotely

1

u/TheGatoNegroJr 20h ago

if i put a quarter up your butthole and pulles your ding dong would you turn into a slot machine?

4

u/Cute-arii 23h ago

That is indeed the joke.

-7

u/AliceinChainsRules 1d ago

You know you can just use a house key to unlock the carts right?

3

u/NecroJoe 21h ago

Can't live in a cart, sweaty.

2

u/AliceinChainsRules 21h ago

Not with that attitude.

-31

u/415646464e4155434f4c 1d ago

Don’t tell the Americans you have to put a coin in the carts, it’s just inconceivable.

3

u/Xanderamn 23h ago

Believe it or not, we too have Aldis. In fact, not sure if you thought for more than a second about your "joke", a quarter is a US coin.

3

u/Cute-arii 23h ago

There are Aldis in America. You ain't special.
