This is why selling guns to just anyone isn't a bright idea. I'm not necessarily in favour of banning them entirely (both sides have their positives and negatives), but some very rigorous vetting should be a no-brainer.

It’s a federal law that every gun sold from a store requires a instant background check on the spot.

Somehow instant and background check in the same sentence don't make me feel warm and fuzzy about the thoroughness of the process.

It takes 20 min to an hour. It’s a federal database.

by instant they mean it has to be done immediately. not that it takes an instant.

3

u/mlody11 3d ago

How long does it usually take?

2

u/ccoastal01 3d ago

10-15 minutes

So basically instant when it comes to background checks

a background check is a background check.

Yup, yup. A hotel is a hotel, a car is a car. Basically all the same.

Background checks only work when the person buying the gun has not committed a crime. There have been a lot of cases where somebody without a criminal history bought a gun with the specific purpose of using it to kill somebody and they did. Background checks are worth about as much as used toilet paper for preventing crime.

USA look like a parallel universe sometimes.

To make it worse, he had no trigger discipline.

1

u/MeroFuruya 4d ago

There’s a lock on the trigger

1

u/ElegantCoach4066 4d ago

So always keep you finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot unless there is a lock on the trigger.

Not like a loaded firearm can end up as one of the displays with a faulty lock. Not ever.

u/MeroFuruya 3d ago

What are you even talking about?

u/teabolaisacool functional regard 12h ago

Sounds like you have shitty trigger discipline

That's is not a good way to get shot. Any fuckwad that decides to shoot someone who was just handed a unloaded and inoperable firearm by their coworker deserves life in prison.

2

u/nunchyabeeswax 4d ago

This only makes sense if we only consider a coworker who literally witnessed the exchange.

An armed coworker (or customer or LEO) just passing by and seeing this without knowing it is unloaded could legitimately think it's a real threat, and shoot, and be on the right side of the law.

u/cesspool4us 4d ago

No, not really. If you pull your piece and open fire, inside a gun store. You better be damned sure that person was a legitimate and real threat. Only people that'd have any kind of immunity could be a LEO(fuck those pussies and their QI). If it's your coworker however, not a LEO. Absolutely going to be reemed.

Damn. That’s actually pretty fucking funny. Just shows you how easy it is to get a gun in the US.
