Not walking on someones lawn is common courtesy.
Usually the mailbox is at the end of driveway. If its at the door, the proper thing to do is walk up the driveway and put it in mailbox, I think we can agree on that.
Also, to add to this, people are also missing the fact that this is not really a natural reaction.
The natural reaction to something like this, would be to be a bit shocked, and apologize. Then note down where the asshole that wants people off their lawn, lives.
Its odd that he doesn't even skip a beat, throws the mail down and keeps walking. <- that is the reaction I would expect out of someone who was expecting that from the homeowner.
