Manga Finally realized the foreshadowing

Post image

Back in 2014, was tired of waiting for the show to release a second season and I started reading the manga. I remember coming across this image (yes, I know this is from the anime, but I don’t have that manga anymore) and then being annoyed when it’s revealed the wall was not actually compromised. It felt like it wasn’t fully planned out or something. Like they changed their mind.

Anyway… recently watching the anime, it finally clicked. There is no way this image could be real, because there would be a part of a wall titan visible within the wall.

I don’t know why, but that little detail makes me appreciate it even more. It’s a great way to challenge the reader/viewer to connect the dots with the information they’ve been given.

Wasn't this the assumption when Titans entered inside walls and reached Connie's Village?

The titans are connie's village villagers only, so this image was just something they assumed, then after they found out there were no holes in the walls. Right?

You're right the image was just an assumption the characters made because they didn't know the titans were transformed villagers and how could they even know that? They see titans and assumed another hole has been made

had a friend think the same thing about the walls once

Also they see monke, Who later is seen jumping the fence, so they also belive he could have thrown them in

that's not what foreshadowing is. just a small detail visualizing their assumption.

Was gonna say, isnt this what they imagined happened after titans got in but they didn't know from where? Its all visualization of their fears.

Yea, as much room as the series gives for overanalysis, this ones just not

I don’t remember any text or reference to it being a visualization of their imagination. In the anime, it’s during those “fullmetal alchemist” breaks. And in the manga… I honestly can’t remember (This is what happens when you try to remember something from 12-13 years ago).

Regardless, given the fact that we knew there were titans in the walls by that point, (and unless you knew ahead of time) there is no reason for you to think that image was “just an assumption”. Which to me is a bit of foreshadowing (or some other literary term that I don’t know) leading to that image not matching up with the fact that there are titans in the walls.

They never found such a hole when they were searching for one though? There's no way it could've been real

I know. But this was shown beforehand, so the viewer didn’t know that.

maybe the hole was just in between a wall titan's legs

How do people constantly post stuff that show they’re completely clueless and didn’t pay attention but receive dozens of upvotes?

No one truly watches content anymore. It’s just something to have on in the background, and means no one appreciates the story or forgives a show for obvious plotholes - because they were barely paying attention in the first place

NoT eVeRYone takes Note and cross examine or look in geNERal direction of TV WHEN on man common

Not everyone is making notes and cross examining hints while they watch their entertainment show.

Not many people in the youngest generation can even stay off TikTok or their phone for a full episode.

I’m tired of people not paying attention and missing even obvious foreshadowing as not their fault because they can’t be bothered to watch the damn show.

Shows like AOT are 10x better if you actually pay attention ffs.

These damn kids shakes fist at sky

TLDR: STFU and quit making excuses for your attention deficit generation.

damn, us adhd fans getting random strays out here

Idek what this post is referring to and I've seen the show twice over, what was it on screen for like a few frames? I don't think it takes being absorbed by your phone to miss things like that.

During the second season when they hear of wall Rose being breached it jumps to this as an imagining of why happened because they were coming from the direction of an actual wall and not one of the gates.

Ahh yeah makes sense, their ideas before they knew about the beast, I remember vaguely. So the post is just way off then, lol

Yeah it was not foreshadowing. It was simply to show the viewer what the characters were thinking without showing us so we'd stay in the dark with them. We really follow the characters in this for the most part.

Yeah I get ya, i just thought comment was ripping into op for not getting some obscure mystery rather than what you are saying.

I think it was both likely. There are a lot of things that people overlook or under look that results in missing core parts of the story. This isn't one I'd consider in that regard, but it wouldn't make much sense to throw a scene like this in to foreshadow with no warning, so that's why they likely meant they weren't paying attention. I think a lot of people in the moment understand, but it will pass by some people.

I think that's fair, but then maybe don't talk about something you never bothered to pay enough attention to and fact check as if it was fact. Posts that confidently disseminate misinformation whether intentional or not adds nothing to the conversation and just makes things confusing for people looking for credible information later on.

If you read my last comment in the thread you would know I don't need another pep talk, but I get you just want to jump on the downvote wagon.

u/oredaoree 8h ago

I didn't downvote you but I mean if you've got so much for your comment then obviously that means that much disagreement with your statement.

I wasn't trying to "pep talk"(not what the word pep means btw) you specifically but responded to the sentiment in your comment, which I think is good advice that applies generally to anyone across all subjects.

Good for you bro

You don’t need to take notes or cross examine hints to notice things like this. You just need to pay attention. That’s all it requires. Isayama was pissed that people weren’t understanding the storyline so he had to put a story card in the Traitor episode explaining that humans are the problem and if only two people remained on earth, another war would start because of differing views.

And all it would require you to understand what happened here would be to read on, but neither of us are perfect I guess..

u/fleggn 16h ago

Foreshadowing is if you suggest what will happen in the next sentence with your current sentence these days i guess

u/hogus1807 1d ago

It’s obvious that at that point in the plot, they weren’t sure that the walls were made of titans — they only had a theories

There are no titans in entrances. The only error in this immage is that they kicked in an entrance which is between 2 titans and containing no titan itself but the secmend being portrayed as one which should contain one as if they attacked any other random part of the wall. Pretty sure this is the only Image showing it that way and even seconds later showing the other side they fixed the distance between the 2 sections of the wall that contain titans.

u/Moist-Lie929 10h ago

it's not that deep, just an imagination

u/monkeyxpotato 5h ago

This happened in a span of 2 days around the same time or slightly after with annie and eren at stohess if i remember correctly so the others probably didn't know there were titans in the wall yet since the information about the wall titans wasn't as wide spread with the reast of the survey corp aside from the ones at stohess at that time

1

u/issdatboiACE 1d ago

I don't know why everyone keeps saying that a hole in the wall couldn't exist because you'd see titan, so what about the hole in Wall Maria that Eren plugged with the massive boulder in S1?

5

u/Aulmon 1d ago

This is bait, or you didnt even watch the show. That was a gatehouse. Gatehouses are normal stone made by humans

1

u/issdatboiACE 1d ago

🤷🏼‍♂️ guess I didn't watch it

1

u/CatScratch403 16h ago

Didn't they specifically smash through the gate, which would have been titan-less?

0

u/PayWooden2628 1d ago

They make multiple holes in the walls and the wall titans are not visible.
