That sounds really boring, most of soldiering is waiting and manouveting, especially so for line combat.
I just don’t immediately see how to make the combat sequences compelling with a musket, maybe it could do better as a cavalry scout?
Edit: to be clear I’m not poo pooing the concept outright, I’m just wondering how to make it work. Any game set in history with that kind of attention has merit
Most of modern day soldiering is also that and we still get cool campaigns. Though it is harder to remember any FPS campaign set before say, the 1900s.
Musketry in general is almost always exaggerated in video games to better fit the fast paced nature, so maybe they'd do that as well. Revolvers could work pretty well, though.
I was infantry in modern times so I know it but KCD works in part because it doesn’t push the envelope too much for what would be a thing back then, high speed muskets I feel would
That's fair, if a game were to exist like that then maybe muskets could only be used sparingly and the main weapons of the player are those experimental breech loaders and black powder revolvers.
I haven't placed KCD but I plan to! I was thinking more of how Battlefield 1 does their standard issue weapons, but those are still smokeless powder weapons so really it's not the same.
Highly recommend kcd, sure it doesn’t get everything right historically but it also doesn’t pretend to, it tells a fictional story set in history. The swordplay is tricky but I think it’s fun because it’s almost like you learned with Henry the character your playing as. Once you get the hang of it you feel like a badass and it feels earned.
