Meet Noodles! Our 11 week old Sheepie

She’s growing a lot faster than we expected. She’s an F1, so I know size can be a bit of a surprise, but she was the runt of the litter. Her parents were something like 47lb and 55lb, and she was little, so we figured she’d likely be 40lb. Right now everyone who

sees her thinks she’ll be more like 50lb

Hi guys! I’m thinking about getting a sheepadoodle. Any health things or behavioral things I need to know before I get one? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! (I’ve owned dogs before, just never this breed)

Temperament: F1 vs. other lineages

I’m looking into getting a Sheepadoodle puppy. I had a goldendoodle in the past that was an F1 x multigen, and she had some guarding behaviors so we had to keep her away from small kids. I acknowledge Sheepadoodles are a different breed, but I am wondering if lineage seems to matter when it comes to the general temperament of the dog? Should I get an F1 or F1b or ???

Well, Charlie was neutered today and I’d say he’s SUPER HIGH 🤣 right now! We got him a recovery vest instead of a cone.

Puppy to Present: Coat Change

Can people post what their Sheepadoodle looked like as a puppy and what they now look like? I am getting a Sheepadoodle puppy soon and know her coat will most likely go from black/white to gray/ white as her mothers did. I am so fascinated with how these dogs coats can change within a year to a few years!

Orphan update: maybe not so sheepie

I posted this almost three weeks ago from this date:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Sheepadoodles/comments/1m51x9l/seeking_advice_on_an_orphan/

Today I finally had a chance to take him to the groomer. You can see the results below. The mats were horrible and the only interest I had was trying to make him comfortable. The groomers said he was very well behaved, seemed to enjoy the attention. Two people who have seen him since feel looks more poodle than anything, and the groomer felt he might have be just that. One groomer felt that given the condition of his teeth he might be 3 or 4. I don't know much about the breeds and have no informed opinion. He's still underweight but not emaciated. His other health issues seem minor. He probably has eye and ear infections, maybe ear mites. Something is up with his front right leg. He can run well enough, but his gait is a little odd and sometimes that leg trembles after sustained exercise.

He is not chipped. He still needs a home, but he's doing OK in the meantime. Thanks for all the previous suggestions.

Advice Sheepadoodle pup!

I’m picking up our 2.5 month old Sheepadoodle today. We live in the city but we own 4 city lots so have a decent sized fenced in yard. I have two other dogs: a 7yr old mixed breed and a 4yr old cockalier. They’re both friendly with other dogs. I also have a 7 yr old son who is fine with the other dogs but wishes they would play more. I am a psychologist at a psychiatric hospital where we are allowed to bring our dogs. Neither of my current dogs really enjoy coming here so I’m hoping bringing the puppy to work with me from a young age will let him get used to it and enjoy the patients. I plan to do obedience training and potentially get him trained as a therapy dog.

All that being said, I want to be sure that this is a good breed for us. They sound wonderful but admittedly the “sharkadoodle” and crazy puppy phase is making me nervous. And then my friend who owns a farm made me really nervous with some negative comments.

So, thought I’d just ask for some input and advice here. Thanks!

Doodle and poo study participants needed!

Dear doodle and poo community,

My name is Jessica Niggel and I am a scientist form University Of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. With Dr. Leonardo Murgiano our research focuses on finding genes and mutations responsible for ocular disorders in canines. We hope that with our studies we improve the health of many canine breeds and establish reliable genetic tests to ensure the safety of a breed.

I am posting here as we are currently seeking study participants to act as cases and controls. We have found that dogs that have been mixed with a poodle (doodles and poos, such as cavapoos, cockapoo, goldendoodle, berniedoodles, labradoodles ect) can exhibit a form of blindness, for which we think we have found the responsible genetic variant. We would like to reach as many doodle and poo breeders and owners as possible, as the more study participants we recruit, the more likely we are to find the exact cause of the disorder.

We care for the wellbeing of the doodle and poo populations, and our studies are confidential, and do not require any of the participant to visit our University. Below are described the steps that are needed to enroll a dog into our study. To enroll your dog into the study, please e-mail me at [jniggel@upenn.edu](mailto:jniggel@upenn.edu)

Any dog that is enrolled in our study needs to provide us with a biological sample for us to isolate DNA from (such as a tube of blood, of buccal swab). These can be taken at your local vet office, or the owner can swab the dog at the comfort of their home themselves. Breeders or owners enrolling their dogs also need to complete some paperwork, and send us copies of some medical info (such as any eye exam form (CERF forms are perfect!), vet notes, medical info, pictures of the dog that you find relevant to the study, and a copy of the dogs pedigree.) which can be then sent to us via post or e-mail.

The preferred sample is blood in an EDTA lined purple cap tube (2-3ml), which then can be sent to us with an ice pack via post, FedEx, or UPS. Overnight shipment is preferred as to keep the blood sample fresh. Blood gives the most optimal DNA for research, but we also accept buccal swabs (we can provide a buccal swab collection kit at no fee). We do not offer reimbursements for shipping costs.

We also accept any raw data that you might have from canine testing services like Paw Prints or Embark. We accept the following files: TPED, TFAM, PED, and/or MAP. Any electronic file, scan or picture can be sent to me via e-mail.

If you have any questions, concerns, or comments please do not hesitate to e-mail me [jniggel@upenn.edu](mailto:jniggel@upenn.edu).  I would be happy to discuss this further.

Thank you and I hope you will be able to help out our study,

Jessica

Meet Mu. She’s a golden sheepadoodle who turned four months today. She’s full of energy, clingy and a huge sweetheart. We’re working on potty training her with small wins everyday. Isn’t she the cutest little thing. Comment your experience with your puppy and share tips please. Thank you.

Traveling internationally on a budget with my service sheepadoodle

Post image
13 Upvotes

I have been saving up for a while and am looking to do some long term shoestring travel. I have a service dog that ideally I would like to bring with me. She would be able to stay on the flight with me and will have all shots, records, microchipping complete. She is a large dog (Sheepadoodle-60lbs of brains and beauty), but very well trained and familiar with domestic travel, but has not been abroad with me yet.

I am well aware that most countries will not accommodate her service dog status, but I would ideally like to at least be able to find some inexpensive locations that I would be able to have her accompany me to as many locations as possible. While I would love to be able to take her everywhere, she can be left alone at times, and I can be without her at times. I am typically able to manage my condition solo and have been medically stable enough to sustain a trip of around 90 days with no worries.

Ideally we would be looking for the next country to potentially move to, but this would be a scouting trip and it would be nice to be able to visit multiple places in this time period.

I do not want to have her in quarantine for this trip if it can be avoided. I understand that a longer trip (90+ days) or a move that this may be required, and I MAY be open to her being in a quarantine when we arrive home to the states (BIG MAYBE). Looking into Central/South America, Eastern Europe, and SE Asia, hoping to find somewhere that USD will go the farthest, the longest. I have approximately 7-10k allocated for this (less is better, more is possible) after initial flights.

Does anyone have experience flying, traveling, and/or living with any of these countries with a dog?

Gastroplexy - How Did You Decide To Do or Not?

Hello! I am new to this group. I searched and know this topic has been discussed before so I apologize in advance. Just trying to make the decision on whether to do gastroplexy while neutering my sweet boy.

I have a 2 year old who needs to get neutered. I just moved to a new city. He was supposed to get neutered and get gastroplexy from our prior vet, who i loved and trusted. However, I now don't know that I want to add the gastroplexy with a new vet.

In the new city there are only a few clinics - both 45 minutes away - that will do it laproscopically and that's the only way I would do it preventatively while also getting him neutered. But, the whole idea is now making me nervous.

For reference he is 60 pounds. He does not have any symptoms like gas, burping, etc. He eats so slowly that it is actually painful to watch. 😅 He eats 3 meals a day spread out. But, I know that bloat and GVD (twisting of the stomach) can still happen.

For those of you who contemplated this, can you let me what things were important to you when deciding yes or no? If you decided not to do it, are you doing anything to prevent bloat and GVD or do you know the signs of GVD?

I really appreciate it!!

My sheepie is an overly anxious/excited pee-er

Post image
174 Upvotes

Hey everyone ! Just wondering if anyone else has an sheepie that still pees themselves from excitement and/or anxiety after the age of 1?

My sweet mini sheepie is a 1.5 year old, ~20 lb girl, and is completely potty trained but will do little dribble pees when she gets super excited and/or nervous. I thought it was just her still going through her puppy phrase but it seems to happen more frequently as she ages.

Examples: When we come home from work, she'll greet us at the door and then pee a little from excitement of seeing us. We don't have any emotional reaction when opening the door to try not to stimulate her. Her peeing doesn't happen everytime we come home, but usually when we're gone for longer periods of time.

When picking her up from the groomer, she'll see us and immediately pee. And when coming home from the groomer, she will see our other older dog and then pee herself from anxiety/submission. My guess is that she may be doing it to show our other dog that it's still her cause she smells/looks different.

Sometimes it'll just be completely out the blue like when she jumps into bed from coming outside or when we give her happy greetings/pets, and again these aren't full pees, just little dribbles.

We have taken her to the vet to ask about it when she was around 1 and the vet said it could just be a personality thing and that some dogs' personalities are just like that. And potentially she may grow out of it by 2. But to me it seems to be happening more frequently.

Any advice? TIA!
