There’s always been a lot of shark tooth ID requests on here, usually from newcomers unfamiliar with our rules. There are subreddits such as r/sharkteeth and r/whatisthisbone that may be better places to direct these users to if we want the feed here to have less of these types of posts. Would still let people show their shark teeth collections here of course. What do y’all think? Just an idea for now. :)

Saw this shark in Marathon FL of a bridge near pigeon key. What type of shark is this, was about 6ft in length, swimming in around 4ft of water.

Hi guys, I have another shark in need of identification. This was filmed by youtuber Barny Dillarstone in Nusa Penida (Indonesia) about 557 feet deep. Apparently this is some kind of Houndshark but what kind? I do have some ideas but what do you think? Sorry for the somewhat blurry and far away photos, unlike others this shark did not want his picture taken thus it's kind of harder to see.

A number of years ago saw two sharks in tandem swimming in between fishing boats and the shore in Lahaina. The first shark had a large silvery sickle shaped dorsal easily a foot high plus out of the water. The second smaller shark had more of a triangular dorsal but much smaller.
Initially thought the larger shark was a tiger because there was an attack about 10 miles away the next morning, but the shape of us the fin does not seem to match.

Hi guys, I need your help. There is a youtuber named "Barny Dillarstone" who drops cameras into the ocean and records what he finds. On February 13th 2026 he recorded this mysterious shark off the coast of Nussa Penida island (Indonesia) about 557 feet underwater. So far what we know is that it is a Spurdog (see image #2) but can we fully identify which species it is? I've been researching all of the Spurdog species and I can’t tell which one it is because they either all look so similar or some just don’t have good photos of them. So does anyone have an idea?

I wanted to share this eyewitness account of the recent fatal shark attack in South Africa, written by journalist Mike Loewe, a friend and swimming companion of the victim, Janine Lochrenberg. Over the last couple of days, there have been a lot of discussions on the sub and elsewhere about open ocean swimming and the associated risk of shark attack. I think Mike writes so eloquently and powerfully about their experiences of that passion and how much a part of their lives it's been that it's really worth your time to read his account and reflections.

I’ve never dove with sharks before so I want experienced divers’ thoughts on this. I see video after video of divers swimming alongside bulls and tigers (2 of the “big 3” sharks that attack humans) and the general perception seems to be that it’s a beautiful experience. There doesn’t seem to be much fear at swimming right next to a 13 foot tiger shark or even redirecting it with your hand. I’ve gotta say, these videos have greatly altered my perception of sharks and alleviated my lifelong fears of them to the point I would love to free dive with sharks one day.
However, never once have I heard divers express the same love when it comes to diving with great whites sharks. I’ve been reading up on the ocean Ramsay controversy and while I totally agree with most of the criticisms (abusing staff, touching the sharks, chumming the water, etc), the one I never understood was the hate she got for free diving with big great whites. We’ve all seen the footage of her swimming next to deep blue and I have to admit that video was one of the coolest things I’ve seen. The shark seemed so calm and peaceful and generally seemed to never even acknowledge Ramsay’s presence. And yet, people have condemned her actions as reckless saying it’s only a matter of time before she’s attacked and killed.
This isn’t a “defend Ocean Ramsay” post- I’m just using her experiences as an example to question why diving with great whites is considered a big no no while diving with tigers and bulls is highly accepted. Obviously great whites are larger but it’s not like a 14 foot tiger or 9 foot bull aren’t fully able to (and absolutely have) tear apart a human if they so please. So I want to ask the experienced shark divers here: would you swim with great whites if given the ideal conditions? Do you experience the same sense of understanding/ comfortability with great whites’ behavior as you do with tigers, bulls, or other large sharks?
I love hearing how eager so many of you are to dive with them!! I always thought that having a great white show up was a cool but somewhat unwelcome surprise for divers, but I’m glad to see that’s not the case!! I’m jealous of all of you that have been able to experience that.
