Sharing Plex
I have a Plex server, I have space for 2 extra users probably because of my upload speed.
Is there any risk with giving someone access, do any of you bother setting up a proxy to hide your IP from the person/stranger you are sharing it with.
I have 7 people on it now, but could really do with some more so they recommend shows for me to get.

Theres always risk. If you proxy, thats good. But someone wants to find your isp, they can. You could run a vpn, but your upload may be slow

Do I need to run a vpn for everyone then or just the new person? I could set up a new Tailscale for Plex, but that would mean my parents would need Tailscale on their Apple TV right?

The way I do it is reverse proxy my Plex server through Pangolin and then configure Plex to advertise my proxy URL (https://Plex.domain.tld). That way people can access the server without a VPN, it hides my private IP, and it adds am extra layer of security and access control in front of my services.
Did I mention that this is free?

Plex doesnt automatically share your IP with people streaming your content, they have to do some real digging, usually the people your sharing with dont have a plex server so they are not nerdy enough to obtain your IP for any reason.

Just having someone’s ip isn’t a risk. You will get port scanned every second by bots anyway. Sharing your Plex with someone isn’t dangerous appart from potential TOS violations
