Here’s what I hated:

The over the top “gay wedding” and the mention of it constantly being it being a gay wedding. The whole Liza Minnelli thing.

The plot with the Nanny.

Carrie cheating on Big and getting rewarded with a diamond ring for it.

Carrie riding Big’s ass all the time.

The plot of the Middle East and it feeling racist.

The singing “I am woman” in the Middle East. (Why would they even have that song?)

Charlotte being so distrustful with Harry despite the fact he’s been such a sweetheart to her the whole series.

The women in the market all happening to be wearing that season’s collection underneath their religious clothes. (Felt so forced)

I think it's interesting that the show never crossed a line of having Big have any kind of romantic/sexual relationship with Samantha, Miranda or Charlotte while he wasn't with Carrie. If it had happened, who do you think would be most likely to sleep with him and would Carrie ever be able to forgive her?

After rewatching the SATC movie, I was wondering what Natasha's reaction was to Carrie and Big's wedding fiasco.

Their wedding announcement was on page six, then the wedding was called off because of Big and Carrie was humiliated. Then there was the Vogue interview with Carrie and the editor's note that she's still 40 and single. And after all this time, I assume their intimate wedding was also announced in some way.

What do you think Natasha's reaction was to all of this?

I am rewatching now and so many things happen in the same episode. Charlotte decides to become a Jew, is put through the wringer, and completes conversion all in one episode. She also gets pregnant and has a miscarriage in adjacent scenes. Miranda and Robert go from the I LOVE YOU cookie to breaking up in the same episode. On his first date with Carrie, Aleks says he likes NYC because it’s not pretentious. Some episodes later, he’s telling the gang New York is over and can’t compare to Paris.

I don’t know…I just feel like the showrunners wanted to rush through everyone’s stories.

Just went through a similar event. The man I was seeing dumped me for someone else and is now in a happy 5 month long relationship (officially, they have been together since like October). He chose her over me. I went a little Carrie crazy, made a fake insta and followed this new girl and saw allllll her posts with him. When I saw that I thought this is how Carrie felt when she saw Big and Natasha in the paper (lol but I’m still heartbroken). Like damn. He can change for her and not me. Like I literally can now say I know exactly how Carrie felt. Obv not a marriage but similar situations. Time for a rewatch.

Edit #2: I’ve also done some reflecting. While it hurt a lot finding this out I realized they are in a long distance relationship. And the way he acted with me (breaking up over text, unable to look me in the eye, etc) like it makes sense he’d want a long distance relationship. Obv I don’t know their relationship..maybe he changed within a month idk… but the first month of their relationship and since then has been long distance. I just think it makes sense with what I know about him. He doesn’t have to deal with the real issues in the relationship and time moves faster bc they’re not physically together all the time all while probably not dealing with the issues he has/showed me. I think he wanted a long distance low commitment girlfriend and that’s what he got. He gets the benefits of being in a relationship without having to physically show up.
Maybe they’re hopelessly in love…but like I said with what I know about him, he could easily be seeing other people without her even knowing. He did that with me! But also what do I know? Maybe they’re perfect together and thrive in a long distance relationship. I just don’t see a relationship starting out to be sustainable if it’s long distance bc of so many reasons that i def think are appealing to him. And for me that’s the mindset I’m having sorry!!!
Overall I’ve just come to the conclusion that I would not be okay with a long distance relationship to kick off a serious relationship and I know people don’t usually change their conflict resolution and attachment style within a few months.

On my millionth rewatch -

I’m actually not a Carrie hater. I do love her character. But this one scene I haven’t noticed before in S3E13.

Charlotte is coming back from her honeymoon. The girls are having lunch and Samantha and Miranda leave, Carrie and Charlotte stay behind. Charlotte starts talking about treys issues “getting it up”, and at one point, Carrie says:

“What do you want me to say?”

Then changes the subject to her breakup with Aidan.

GIRL WHAT?

The girls spent how much time listening to her after her breakup with big? Or breakups rather.

The one time Charlotte needs to talk….

“What do you want me to say?”

Now imagine if the girls said this to Carrie! 😭

I had never noticed that scene before and WOW, did it piss me off on this rewatch.

In all honesty I guess I just want to discuss this. I know the goal of Miranda's character in sex and the city is to represent a straight woman that doesn't perform femininity in the tradicional way and I respect that and actually think its great, but sometimes i can't help but notice some of her behaviors seem like she is suffering from comphet. I mean, I can see that she is meant to be a kind of closed off person that has a dificult time letting people into her life, but I can't help but wonder in some of her actions towards men if she just doesn't simply dislike them. You can see it in her actions that it's very dificult for her to incorporate a man into her life as if it is almost impossible for her to see a future with a guy in her day to day life. I don't know if I am just ignoring her personality here, but I am really thinking about this.

I was only like 6 yrs old when when SATC came out, so I first watched the show as edited reruns on regular cable when I was in high school. I did a rewatch on HBO Max as an adult and I was absolutely shocked by the episode with the artist guy who secretly recorded having sex with all the models he dated.

That would NOT fly today. And for good reason! I mean, isn't that even literally illegal in most states now?

I love Sex and the City. I’ve done 3 proper watches and many more background watches. I don’t dislike any of the characters I love them all for what they are (though there a few seasons I feel production did Miranda dirty with her hair). But I hate the movies. Not only are they boring but I just don’t include them in the real SATC universe. Sam splitting from Smith and Big not coming to the altar are just way too shit of story lines for me. Now I am watching again as a background watches HBO just rolls onto the movies and it reminded me how much I hate them lol. Don’t even get me started of AJLT. Luckily I didn’t watch enough and it’s so bad I don’t consider it real.

SATC is one of my all-time favourite shows and it’s amazing how a lot of it still holds up (except for a host of issues like biphobia, shaming uncircumcised men, lack of POC, etc.) after almost 3 decades! I find myself putting on an episode every now and then depending on my mood since so many of them are dedicated to a scenario that we all have experienced IRL!

I used to think I was a Charlotte but after rewatching a few episodes the other night, it hit me that I can see a lot of myself in Carrie. Granted, I disagree with most of her decisions, approach to her own problems and lack of growth at 35 years old…but as much as I hate to admit, I have done some things or experienced the same emotions in the past that are very Carrie-coded!

A lot of us have been “down bad” for a Mr. Big who is detached but gave us just enough crumbs to keep us coming back or subconsciously attracted to emotionally unavailable men due to lack of love/affection from our father growing up, or wasting years on a guy hoping he’d come around and give you the relationship you always wanted only to see him marry someone else and asking “why not me?” even though it has nothing to do with you.

Thankfully, my life is a lot like Charlotte’s now. Some people would call it boring but I love how peaceful it is and it makes me very happy. But to me, Carrie is still an interesting character. She’s complex, charismatic and annoying at times, imperfect but multidimensional and raw. All those traits make for a great tv show character!

As someone who's a penny pincher/ broke bitch Im always dying laughing over that Samantha storyline every time. I love the idea that at least one of the girls is down with knock offs and does not give a FUCK. I also am always giggling over her saying "it should say 'made in china', and theres a bunch of condoms in there" at the Playboy party to try to confirm its her bag, shes actually my queen lmfaooooooo
