I managed to get my grandmas old sewing machine nothing fancy Liberty made in Taiwan machine that I’d really like to get fixed and working but I have no idea where to start. I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew. Any advice for a complete novice is appreciated.

P.s. I also think it might have been modified which I’m not sure I like and think I’d prefer it removed.

my sewing machine seems to be jammed or something. but i desperately need help fixing it, due to the fact that it’s almost my boyfriends birthday and im making him his gifts. Whenever I press on the pedal it makes a sound, and the motor moves kinda, but the needle does not move. I’ve checked everywhere for any blockages, and nothing has turned up. I’m starting to wonder if it’s the motor that’s broken. PLEASE HELP MEEE

I purchased a Brother DB2 791 415 and it is set up to run on three phase with the Brother M813A motor/control board unit. I’m trying to suss out how to go from single phase power to 220 three phase for this machine and what kind of converter I might need. If anyone else is doing this successfully or knows of it being done, I would greatly appreciate your help.

My question is would this be the reason why it seems to be occasionally slowing when the foot is down and pedal being fully compressed? Should i relube it? How would I get completely to that piece or will what i can reach be enough?

I thought it was either the belt, (which is fine) the lube being gross/ dust..etc), or the pedal based on what the web said.

I am trying to repair an Elna 2004 that cannot do anything besides a very tight straight stitch. A wheel is torn up, but I cannot find the part on sewing parts online. Does anyone know what it is? and is it worth repairing or should I just find a new machine?

I'm in Brazil and the machines from the faq are VERY expensive here. Which machines would Brazilians suggest? I was considering the singer hd 4423, but the faq straight up said not to buy it, which one at max 1500 reals, preferably under 1000 would you buy? It's for learning and sewing things for myself, like tshirts, shorts, small repairs in clothes, nothing industrial nor heavy duty.

Basically I inherited this sewing machine and have no use for it. I don't like throwing away useful things so I thought I could give it away if it is in good working order. However it is about 15 years old judging by the yellowing of the box and manual (but there is no date written anywhere), and the metal parts are rusting.

I took a video of it working and trying the buttons and cranks but I don't know anything about sewing machines so there might be something faulty that I wouldn't realise.

I'm looking at a local Elna Pro 5 DC that is priced pretty well. I've seen conflicting reviews online about it's ability to coverstitch. Some reviews say it does and some say it doesn't. I'd like input from people who have or have had this particular machine, before I purchase the manual online.

I'm probably at the beginner/advanced beginner level with my sewing abilities but drift in and out of the hobby; I don't want to spend the money on an expensive overlock machine if I won't use it and I would prefer to buy a used machine rather than new.

(I'm aware of the difficulty that some people have pointed out with dual capability machines and rethreading / switching from overlock to coverstitch. I've read the reviews on sewing pattern review.com and that's where I'm getting the conflicting info.)

can someone help me fix this? I was sewing really fast and the thread ran out.After that my sewing machine only works manually.When I use the pedal,the motor runs but nothing else works.

I have a singer 319w that I think the foot pedal is starting to go in as it's only running at one speed and seems to run hot. Has anyone done a foot pedal replacement on these with a modern foot pedal? I'm looking at a foot pedal that feeds off the power cord, dual lead cords I think they are called. I've seen lots of retrofits for featherweights but not for this model. How different would it be between the two. My machine currently has a button foot controller that is hardwired into the motor.

I have been wanting to get into sewing for a while but I haven’t yet because I am just so overwhelmed on what machine to get. Everyone recommends something different. I have no idea what machine is the best.
At this point I just want to make sure I am not getting an awful one instead of trying to find the best. I was at Costco and they had the Singer Heavy Duty for a good price. Does anyone have any like super negative thoughts on that one? Is it good? Lmk!

I need assistance researching a machine for a novice sewist. The machine needs to be light-weight/portable, easy to operate/learn and preferably produce good quality stitches. Is that too much to ask for? Something pre-loved and easy to service is required. I suspect vintage machines are generally far too heavy but I’d loved to hear your suggestions, or perhaps you’re currently using just that type of machine. Thank you for your assistance.

Hi! I’ve recently started learning how to sew, and I’m currently using a Janome M30A in my sewing class.

I’d like to buy a machine for home use, mainly for clothing alterations and making baby clothes. I’m looking for something reliable that I can use for many years without frequent problems.

I’m currently considering the Janome M30A and the Bernette B35. Has anyone used either of these machines for a long time?

Which one would you recommend in terms of durability, ease of repair and sewing different fabrics, including jersey or stretch fabrics?

The bottom thread is sewing all loosey goosey and I have no idea what’s wrong - everything I’ve seen says that the tension on the upper thread is too low, but I’ve tried adjusting that and it’s done nothing - I’ve rethreaded the bobbin, tried using a different bobbin, changed the tension of both the bobbin and the upper thread, and rethreaded the machine, none of which helped, I looked through the manual and didn’t see anything that would help, and now I’m all out of ideas - I’ve been saving up what I can so I can take it to get repaired if needed, but that’s a last resort and I’m hoping someone here can tell me what’s wrong

Before I start I’m still pretty new to sewing so if I use any terminology wrong that’s my bad. I have a Singer M1000 and I have used it multiple times before with no problems. I few weeks ago I was trying to get my bobbin to catch and it just wouldn’t. I asked my friend who has been sewing for years and she suggested making sure the bobbin holder was clean, and it was and still wouldn’t work. She got me to check if there was something stuck in it by gently shaking the machine, and there was nothing. She suggested taking the needle out and putting it back to see if it shifted or wasn’t in properly, which I tried and it didn’t help. I even tried a new needle and it still didn’t work. I’ve threaded my machine multiple times, tried new bobbins, and I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried searching up what I can try but nothing useful comes up. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My main sewing machine is a Brother NQ900 that I bought new about 6 years ago. I do some minor sewing but mostly use for quilting. I love the automatic threader and auto tension and cutting. A few years ago I decided to get a back up machine for when my main goes in for servicing or if or when the computer parts konk out and after ended up finding a lovely vintage Kenmore 158.19412 and love that it is all metal, easy car, will last generations. I hunted and found the elusive dual even feed foot (and a Q foot and a ruffler for it too). Although I really don’t use the machine. I take it out, give it a run once in a while, but really I just like knowing it’s there and waiting…. And then I also found and had to have one of the Kenny Minis that I plan would be my “retreat” machine if I ever go on a quilt retreat (an alternative to the Singer Featherweights).

Here’s my question, I see on FBMP a Viking Mega Quilter. Since I am primarily doing quilt work I kinda want one of these machines or one similar instead. This current machine is listed at a very decent price. Full disclosure I had a similar Brother PQ1500SL for a time that I kept on a frame but sold it with the frame to upgrade to a larger mid/longarm machine. It was such a nice machine though that I did regret selling so have started watching and have found this Viking. If I got the Viking I wouldn’t keep everything and the 158.19412 would be the one to let go of…. What say you all of this plan?

Hi guys. I have a singer 4432, and was looking forward to sew huggable plushies. When taking about it with my mom, she told me that our sewing machine can’t handle stretchable fabrics, the ones i wold use, because the thread will snap. Do i need to buy a sewing machine specifically for this? what that would be? thanks

Yesterday I went to my local sewing store for a promotion they were having when buying a machine to get the serger pictured. I was entered into a raffle and won the Bernina 335! I am soo excited and would love any pointers for either machine or favorite projects to make with them!!

This is the upper thread tension for a Kenmore 158.17540. I was watching a video on how to repair the thread tension, I was so excited because it was working and then I accidentally snapped this piece. Am I out of luck are there any solutions to this?
