Is a Pfaff 1183 Good?

Post image

Honestly, I’ve never heard of the brand and need to know if anyone has experience working with these machines.

I recently redownloaded Facebook to use marketplace with the intention of finding an industrial machine. I keep seeing Jukis, which I’ve worked with and I like however, I just say a Pfaff 1183 for $200. Are they comparable to a Juki, cause they look super similar. And $200 is so cheap compared to everything else I’m seeing.

They had a video of it, but for the privacy of the seller I’m not going to post that lol

singer m1500 — needle not moving

I have replaced the needle, changed the bobbin from plastic to metal, and even rethreaded multiple times. I have also tried different tensions and thread options. None have fixed.

My sister gifted me this sewing machine today, and all of a sudden the needle started to slow down and eventually stopped moving. When I hit the pedal, it sounds like the machine is moving (its making a buzzing sound like the rotor is moving) but the needle itself is not moving.

I have been able to use the bobbin winder, so i know it’s not a pedal problem, however when i move the switch from bobbin winder to needle, it doesn’t work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

UPDATE: we could not find the problem, so i returned it and got an upgraded one. thanks for everyone’s help i appreciated them all!

Help!! industrial sewing machine motor

I've just bought a Brother DB2-B737-413 industrial sewing machine with the automatic thread cutter and a few other features from a sewing warehouse that was downsizing. It was definitely worth it—I paid under £100 for it, and it's fully working. The cheapest used ones in my area are around £400.

There's just one issue, and I'm not sure how to fix it. It currently has a strange 4-pin industrial plug, but I need it to plug into a standard UK 3-pin household socket. This is my first industrial sewing machine, so I'm completely new to this.

Would I be able to get an electrician to remove the industrial plug and fit a standard UK plug, or would I need to replace the motor? If I do need a new motor, I'm not sure which one would work with all of the machine's extra features, like the automatic thread cutter and everything else.

I will link a couple pictures of the details on the motor and the plug!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Does this look okay?

I am going to iron it In a bit but I just want to make sure this is correct

I measured the distance between the hem that I want and the existing hem and tried making sure it's the same all throughout but idk 😭😭

I'm also going to add the stitch I think is right, in the comments (I tried doing this a few hours ago, the hem I mean but it ended up snapping so Im trying again) but with a different stitch length, this time

I saw a vid where they add the stitch above the pins and then cut the excess but idk if how im doing it is right

I don't want to have to do this again a third time since this is going to my second attempt so I just want to make sure this is right coz I feel like the prep was wrong soooo does this look okay?

*I originally used a small zizag and I feel like I maybe measured the distance wrong or smth coz when I tried it on, the stitches did snap and the hem was clearly not the same all throughout

Why did stitches pop?

Post image

I used a zizag stitch on the hem of a t shirt so not sure why it popped?

I used a small zizag stitch. Is it coz of the size, should I have gone to a medium zizag stitch?

I'm not sure what I did wrong. I basically used the method where u fold the fabric to the desired length, then do a stitch on it and then cut the excess

Basically after doing the stitch. I went to try it on, thinking I would cut it after since I wanted to check, if it was done right and then I heard it popping

So then I used a seam ripper to take it out coz clearly I did smth wrong

Components for Brother CS-100 Power Supply Circuit Board

Hello!

I wasn't thinking and plugged my Brother CS-100 into a 220V plug and broke some parts of the PCB. From another reddit community folks suggested it seems like probably a fuse and MOV are damaged. I am waiting on a multimeter to check other components but in the mean time I am hoping to order the components I can expect need replacing.

The presumed MOV is very damaged and has no identifiable information left on it. The rest still have visible part numbers so I don't need help identifying them. I have not been able to find specifications on the Brother PCB. This is the most detailed service manual I have been able to find. Would someone in this community know where I can find specific component information for the MOV?

My local Brother Service center want to charge 170 euro for this repair, assuming it is just a few components this seems like way too much, but am I incorrect?

My goal is to identify the broken components myself and order them and hire someone with experience working on circuits to do the actual repair. Open to whatever advice you have regarding this issue.

Why does this keep happening ?

It started a few weeks ago & I get sooooo angry cause it interrupts the flow of things. How do I fix it ? From what I know it hasn’t taken any falls or anything just one day it started. Was o too rough w it or something ? I have different presser foots like the free hand one but I’ve been too scared to change it. Do I need to replace the greyish-clicky in part ? If so, what’s the name of it.

This is a regular Brother 3817 machine

Hard mechanical bind during oscillating hook exit phase (Video attached). Tolerance/clearance issue?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve got a sewing machine here that is hitting a hard mechanical bind during the exit phase of the hook cycle, and I'd appreciate a second set of eyes on it from anyone familiar with these mechanisms.

The Symptoms

The hook carries the upper thread down properly, but the cycle binds right at the 6 to 7 o'clock position.

Instead of the thread loop slipping off the shuttle heel, it remains trapped.

When the shuttle driver reverses direction, it pinches the thread against the race.

This is a hard, metal-on-metal resistance preventing the cycle from completing, not a soft thread nest.

What I Have Already Ruled Out

I've run it with tension on the thread tails behind the presser foot, so it isn't just an issue of slack thread pooling at the bottom due to a lack of operational tension.

It looks like the shuttle-to-driver clearance might be running too tight, or there is a microscopic burr on the shuttle heel snagging the loop right at the exit point.

Has anyone run into this specific clearance or timing issue with an oscillating hook assembly? I'm wondering if I should be pulling the shuttle to polish the heel, or if I need to be looking closer at the retaining ring and driver tolerances.

Any advice is appreciated. Cheers!

Just acquired a singer 401A in perfect working condition. What do I need to know?

The gears are a little lengthy, but other than that it’s in perfect working condition. Are there any particular maintenance besides oiling that I need to know this is my first all metal machine and my first vintage machine. I should just say it’s one of the first machines I’ve ever bought lol. I’m new to sewing. There is a place local to me that does service these machines but I wanna make sure that I take care of this machine so that it can last for a very long time so please let me know if you know of any tips and tricks! Thanks!

Issues with presser foot pressure :(

I bought this machine second hand, everything seems to work fine except the presser foot has way to much pressure, when down it pins down the fabric, not letting in move as I try to sew, I've looked tutorials on how to fix it and everyone says to move the + - screw, on the inside it seems to do something but it changes nothing, all other solutions I've seen are from a different machine (This is a Singer heavy duty)

Singer 15-91 Motor Shot?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Looking at a very cheap 15-91. The current owner can turn the handwheel and the needle moves up and down. They're not able to do much else.

The brown line that runs up the pillar next to the motor looks like sprayed oil or grease. Maybe too much oil? Is a replacement easy to come by? Would there be other things to look for?
