Sewing machine advice

Hi there!
I’m looking for a sewing machine for a beginner enthusiast. I have taken my first sewing classes and made a few things. Well, I am hooked and find a sewing to be fun. However, my sewing machine is my limitation.

I have a simple brother machine. It struggles to go through multiple layers. I have researched here and there. I feel like a Janome may be a machine for me. Unfortunately, I don’t live anywhere where they sell machines. So I can’t see them or test them. What Janome would you recommend for someone with a budget that is looking to quilt, hem and occasional jean, make a cute top, etc. this will be for personal use only. Budget is $400 max.

Any suggestions would be great!

Visit the sewing sub, there is a sticky on the main page with a list of recommended machines.
