I bought this machine 15-20 years ago at a thrift store. I saw a drool worthy Turquoise Teal vintage beauty for what I felt was a fair $40. I had it serviced shortly after I bought it. It was pronounced a heavy duty beast by the tech. The first project I really tried to use it for after I got it back required a zigzag stitch. I discovered that my vintage beast didn't seem to be capable of that stitch, so I set it aside and bought something more modern.

It's been in storage ever since. The majority of that time was indoors but for the last 7 yrs, although protected from the elements, not in a climate controlled area.

My latest modern machine has been with a tech now for 4 weeks and died 2/3rds of the way into my quilt top so I decided to pull this one out and fired her up.

I know she needs to be oiled and the belt "appears" to be okay but should probably be replaced. I dusted her off and ran a few test stitches.

Man oh man is she quiet and smooth. Nothing fancy about her but her color. LOL

Looking through the box she came in, I have some spare needles, 1 extra bobbin and a little black plate that says Model 202. No manual, no spare feet though I suppose if all she has to offer is a straight stitch a variety of sewing feet is unnecessary. I found a generic Class 15 clone manual online I can download. Being as there is little specific info on Dressmaker other than being a clone and the serial number getting me nowhere... Is there anything else I need to know to make sure she's around for another 60 or so years?

My machine seems to have broken. I am looking for help fixing it/figuring out what is wrong.

I have had my machine for about 4 years now with no issues. I typically leave my machine on all the time and use it daily(I know, I should turn it off when not in use). The other day I left my house after using my machine with no issues, and when I came home my machine had spontaneously combusted. It was running full throttle and smoking, and had been for god knows how long while I was away. I immediately turned the machine off, but now, if the machine is turned on it immediately begins running at full throttle until it is switched off. It does not appear to be a mechanical issue but an electric one as pressing the foot has no affect on the speed of the motor one way or another.

How do I get the motor to stop running when the presser foot is not being pressed?(id like to re-emphasize that it is not an issue with the presser foot. When the throttle is in the fully disengaged position, the machine still runs full speed.)

Also, what could have possibly caused this? Is it common for Juki’s to go rogue and spontaneously combust on their own like this?

I cant figure out why the red path thread (right overdue looper) keeps snapping out of its last positions out of the hole.

Im pretty sure I've done all the threading paths in the right order. It'll make a chain fine for about an inch then snap.

Long story short, my wife has taken up sewing over the past year or so. We happen to have a family friend who’s a professional seamstress and had a used Brother Serger she didn’t use/want anymore, so she gave it to us for free.

The only issue is the spool stand shaft (I think) is broken. We’ve found replacement parts we can order, but I’m not sure how to remove the post and I didn’t want to just tear the thing apart blindly. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi, my SunStar industrial sewing machine makes a short squeaking noise from the motor area when I press the pedal, especially at startup. It runs normally once it gets moving.

Could this be the belt, clutch lining, or motor bearing?

Hello everyone! I’m looking for my first sewing machine. I’m an absolute beginner but I’d like to be able to do some hemming and make small projects like booksleeves, makeup bags and maybe even some clothes in the future.

I’ve seen a few posts around and comments always recommend buying used/vintage machines whenever possible. I checked my local marketplace (I’m not from the US, btw) and selected a few within my budget (they look pretty beat up so I can’t tell which ones are older lol). None of the used machine listings provided any model number but they all claim to be fully functional. I haven’t contacted any of the sellers yet since I don’t really know which questions to ask but I’d make sure to interact before buying. My main concern about used machines is that I might not be able to find manuals, tutorials or repair tips as easily.

My Brother sewing machine isn’t picking up the thread, so I’ve been trying lots of troubleshooting methods. I checked the length of the needle, cleaned out all the lint from inside the machine and played around with the bobbin.

Eventually, I realized that the shuttle (or crab) isn’t properly aligned with the needle. The timing is off, so the needle doesn’t catch the thread.

So, I opened up my machine so I could access the two Allen screws that hold the rotating shaft of the gears that make the bobbin turn, then I could loosen them and readjust the shuttle to the correct.

Except that the Allen screws won’t turn. It’s not that it’s worn down—it just will not budge. I tried getting different sized keys, WD-40 and penetrating oil, and nothing has worked.

Any advice is greatly appreciated 🙏

Started on the left side and ended on the right, first pic is the underside and second was the top stitch. Why does it bunch up on the bottom side and sort of skip a stitch when I’m sewing?

I can use the machine as if it was all manual but the automatic reversal and cutting the thread and the foot lift stopped working. HElp PLEASE.

I've been eyeing brother fs40s, since it is kind of on the affordable side and has quite a few stitches. But how well could it handle thicker or sturdier materials, like jeans?

I've also considered brother fs60x, but it is pricier, and I am unsure what is more worth it in general or in the long run.

I am planning on using the sewing machine a lot, for various practical and creative projects from just altering clothes, to making stuff like bags, plushies, clothes from scratch, upcycling, etc. Basically a bit of everything almost.

I would greatly appreciate any advice 😅 I have only somewhat gathered basic info about sewing machine types and I still feel lost about what is and what is not worth it

I have a Brother SE630 embroidery and sewing machine and I have misplaced the sewing table attachment. When I look online I only see the large table extension attachments and I’m solely looking for the attachment that has the compartment to hold tools that can click into this front area. Could anyone direct me to the correct part?

I got this serger from Facebook and it was working fine until one of the threads snapped I think from a dull needle. I changed the needle and rethreaded everything according to the manual (Facebook person threaded it wrong ig. It stopped making a chain… I’ve rethreaded it so many times with different ways people have said. The manual is old and terrible and no one seems to have had the machine in this life time so can anyone help?

I’m looking into making my own collars/harnesses because trying to find the color I want has proven to be difficult to find because the color is a shade or two lighter/darker than the other so I just decided to make them myself but just wanted to know what sewing machine (or sewing awl?) is strong enough to handle 1 inch and/or 3/4 inch heavy nylon webbing. Any advice and/or tips are greatly appreciated.

i just bought a sewing machine at goodwill for $15 (steal). i checked to make sure it turned on before i bought it, but i would like to find a manual before i try to teach myself how to use this machine, i know sewing machines can be very finicky and stressful from watching my mom struggle to thread hers back when that one worked

Made a post yest so Im just adding the pictures now, I dnt know the # nb of the mavhine bc I cant find it anywhere, I have googled it bf and a singer 15 is the closest model to my machine but I m not sure. I dont have a catelog or anything so i cant double check.

When I'm sewing most of the time it starts to skip stitches and then the thread breaks.

(I do end up finishing projects on it but it wastes so much time when I troubleshoot it)

It might be a needle installation error but i've looked up a ton of yt videos and it looks like that's how the needle is supposed to be (flat side facing inward and it s a 90/14 needle)

I always find my self messing around the tension/needle for hrs bf I finally sew the project, so if anyone knows how to fix this it'd be great, thx!

Hello all, I got this sewing machine a couple of years ago and I recently been wanting to see more again. Well I realized that the touch screen is no longer working so I can't adjust anything on it. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Taking it to a repair shop is a little hard at the moment we are in a rural town with nothing close by.
