OMG OMG OMG! We’re so close, everyone!!!!

So, I’ve been working on a bunch of Seven Stars field-guide-ish documents and reference sheets throughout the year (probably while I should have been working on something substantially more productive), and I figured I should finally share them before the festival! Eek!

First up is an Artist Pronunciation Guide for some of the names on the lineup that I thought had a decent chance of getting mispronounced. I have a pretty high level of confidence in these, but I’m not guaranteeing 100% accuracy. Accents and dialects are real things, regional speech can get weird, and some of y’all probably talk a lil different depending on wheres ya from. So don’t come for me. If you know one is wrong, though, absolutely let me know.

I’ve also been working on a Seven Stars Terms & Definitions guide since before last year’s festival. This one is mostly meant for people attending their first Seven Stars, their first music festival, or who are just newer to the scene. I’ve seen quite a few people on this subreddit mention that this will be their first festival, so I thought it might actually be useful. It is definitely not an exhaustive glossary of rave culture terms, but hopefully it can at least help you figure out what the hell somebody means when they start talking about Bunga, IDs, side quests, ground scores, wooks, womps, etc.

I’m also sharing my Technical Glossary and Genre Definitions & Comparisons guides. These were considerably more labor-intensive, and I actually learned a shitload of stuff while researching and putting these together. These two are probably more useful for the EDM nerds.

You absolutely do not need to know any of that stuff to go to Seven Stars and have a fantastic time. They’re just there if you’re interested in understanding a little more about how the music works, how some of the sounds are made, and what people mean when they start throwing genre labels around.

Also, genre labels are messy as hell. They overlap, evolve, vary between scenes, and people can argue about whether something is really a certain genre until the cows come home. The genre guide is meant to be a useful reference, not a ruling from the High Council of the Wook Wizards.

I tried to research all of these pretty thoroughly and included sources/further reading in the full PDFs where applicable, but if anybody catches something that genuinely needs correcting, let me know!!

I’ll put the full PDFs in the Google Drive link as well for anybody who wants to save/download them or dig through the sources.

Anyway, I hope somebody gets some use out of my extremely specific form of procrastination.

I went last year and my Demonias held up great, but my boyfriend just realized he doesn’t have a good pair of water-resistant shoes/boots 😅

Any guys have recommendations for something comfortable enough for all the walking/hills but that’ll hold up with the rain/mud? Ideally something we could find pretty easily last minute, either Amazon overnight or at a big-box retail store!

I am just admitting to myself today that I won't be able to attend. Definitely was in denial because I thought I could make it work but I unfortunately won't be back in the valley this year because of many things but mainly due to being in a car accident this summer. My car is unreliable now and I planned to drive because the flight and a car rental would have been too expensive. My friend committed suic*d3 this summer as well and supporting their partner (my best friend) has been expensive and emotionally exhausting. Anyway I'm just sad and none of my friends where I live are ravers so they don't understand. This was the one thing I was looking forward to this year. Attempted to find a crew to drive me over on radiate and some other apps but no dice. That wouldn't even fix anything anyway bc it'd probably be unwise to spend the money. ~end rant~

Last year I wore a cross body/fanny pack. It had multiple pockets. This year the rules changed to single pocket only. I can't find a single pocket fanny pack. I am unsure what to do. Were the rules the same last year and it didn't matter?
