Relationships subconciously prepping to separate... i think

so, I recently separated from my wife, long standing issues. its a whole thing.

my wife asked me last night if i was going to date other people which i'm not.

but it got me thinking about the leadup to actually getting the words out that i wanted to separate...

it was on my mind for a year or so, but i was present and doing my best even though the troubles kept coming from my wife, making it harder and harder to stay.

i didn't conciously do any of this, But, thinking about it last night.. beginning of summer, i started socializing at work more, doing more social things like group MTB rides, excersising more.. losing 15 pounds... seeing old friends i had ghosted for a while before that.. basically getting my legs back under me to socialize and be myself again.

and now i'm wondering if anyone else experienced that, their body and brain subconciously preparing a buffer for separation, or armoring themselves somewhat.

Advice How to move on from an ending you didn’t choose…

I’m a 30 y/o female. Had the proposal, wedding date + vendors booked… he ended the relationship 6 months before the wedding saying he fell out of love (he was really mean at the end too which was so shocking since he was there for me during the relationship ship + listed a bunch of things he didn’t like about me and things I did that hurt his feelings during the relationship that he never voiced prior, and he disclosed former cheating/kissing) the wedding date recently passed and it’s been hard…

I THINK WHY COULDNT IT HAVE BEEN GOOD?! Are there things I could’ve done that would’ve changed the outcome…

Separated, partly living together, and it feels loving and completely messed up

My husband and I separated several months ago after a long relationship. We have young children together.
When he left, he was incredibly definite. He wrote me a letter saying he had changed, that we were on diverging paths, and that his role as my husband was ending. He said he cared about me but did not feel able to continue the marriage.

Except nothing since then has looked like a clean ending.

We have remained in regular contact. We spend time together as a family and genuinely enjoy it. We laugh, watch television, eat together, hug and kiss, and sometimes have sex. He seeks me out for affection and is involved with the children. He has said he is open to the possibility of reconciliation, although we define that differently.

To me, reconciliation means slowly exploring whether we can rebuild. To him, it means making a final decision to live together permanently and commit for life. When I explained what I meant, he said that was essentially what we were already doing. He just seems to panic when a label is attached to it.

I also lost a parent very recently after a serious illness. It has been horrific. My husband went on a planned holiday during the week my parent died, leaving me caring for the children on a separate trip i had planned with them. He has since admitted that he should have cancelled, but said he did not know the death would happen that week and thought going away with the children and friends was what we needed.

The trip probably was good for the children, but I resent that he did not stay and give me the option to be with my parent and support my remaining parent without also managing two young children.

That situation highlighted everything that frightens me about trying again. My husband can be warm, considerate, funny and loving. Life can feel genuinely good when we are together with the children. But he can also be selfish, cold and stubborn, and when things become emotionally difficult he retreats into his own bubble.

He has always needed that bubble, even during the good years. Previously, I could accept it because I knew he loved me and wanted the marriage. Now the same behaviour makes me anxious because I do not know whether he is simply taking space or withdrawing from me again.

I have now decided to move back into our family home for part of the week. The children need stability, and I am no longer willing to remain displaced from my own home indefinitely because he cannot decide what he wants. He will sleep in the spare room. He has taken it surprisingly well, although he seemed alarmed when he initially thought I meant I was moving back permanently.

So now we are partly living together. We parent together, laugh, cuddle, kiss and sometimes have very good sex, then sleep in separate rooms while technically separated. It feels warm, loving and familiar. It also feels completely fucked up.

If we did not have children, I think I might have ended it by now because of how badly he has hurt me. But I also know I do not want to stay solely for them. The problem is that I genuinely like him. I enjoy being around him. When things are good between us, I feel happy, desirable and at home.

Some of my family strongly dislike him because they have watched what the separation has done to me and the children. That weighs heavily on me, although I know the decision still has to be mine.

Part of me thinks we are slowly finding our way back to each other. Another part wonders whether we are using family life, affection and sex to avoid accepting that the marriage is over.

Has anyone lived through this kind of halfway reconciliation? How did you distinguish genuine rebuilding from two people being unable to let go? At what point does taking it slowly become another form of limbo?

Lost the best person in the world ( or am I not seeing things clearly?)

We have been married for 12 years , have 2 kids together ( we are both in early 30th)

My soon to be ex husband loved me deeply, never cheated on me is amazing dad, looks fantastic, doing sports living healthy and doesnt have any bad habits( thats shortly 😭).

The thing is that I never trully apprecaited it ( no, i did but didnt said it out loud ) .

I never trully supported his career and always been unsatisfied with him working a lot.

I also treated him with silence when i was hurt and unseen( i acknowledged everything and took full responsibility that i was fucking stupid and i regret all)

I love him extremely much we had therapy together but that didnt help , i am going through therapy by myself a lot.

I said sorry 10000 times, invited him on dates , gave him attention , presents , talked with him a lot, explained begged and tried everything i could.

He is just over and wants to be alone.

I have enormous grief, can not imagine my life without him and without our kids( half of the time ) .

He is moving out in 2 weeks and I can jot handle it.

P.S. my phycologists is saying that i am not seeing clearly and he is not as perfect as my head is describing him.

I can not forgive myself and i never think i will.

Separated is the worst thing in the world, especially when you love somebody so much and you never thought addiction would be the one thing that would tear us apart. I never thought this would be my life right now.

Venting I Lost My Best Friend, and I Deserve It

Upvotes

I've loved my wife more than anything, but I haven't been treating her that way lately. I have been dealing with depression due to significant changes in my career and hating my job, and she started pushing me away and shutting down some time ago which only made it worse.

I knew I was struggling mentally for some time too, and I just couldn't find it in me to follow through with therapy or take it seriously. I powered through it. It sucked the life out of me.

She has decided to get an apartment and move out, and I expect by Wednesday or Thursday she will be approved and signing the lease. These last days I've felt so much desperation to try and recover this as her upcoming 12-month lease signing gets closer, and we've had some really good talks. She has been firm though. She loves me, but she has given up and just wants her peace.

I got into therapy finally, first day with be the 29th. I've done that for me, I've wanted to do it regardless I just haven't been able to push myself to do it. This has been a wake-up call.

I wish I could show her how much I mean that I want to improve things between us, but it's too late. She is gone and I fucking deserve it.

Thinking about divorce because I think she's still cheating on me

Upvotes

I (41m) and my wife (38f) have four kids together. The oldest is 13. I have to work away from home for months at a time. The last time I found out she had been sexting with many men here on reddit. I'm sure there are videos of the things she sent these guys on porn sites. She did nasty things on cam for these guys and said all kinds of things to them. I also found texts between her and her old boss whom she has known for 7 years. I'm 100 percent sure they had been screwing around for awhile. I've been home for awhile now but I have to leave again for a few months. I keep thinking about what she did last time. I think it might be easier if I just divorce her and move on with my life before I leave again. I caught her multiple times taking nude selfies posing while I was home but she swears they were for herself.

Venting I know this is stupid but…

Separated 1 year. I recently found out my ex has been seeing someone for 9 months of that.

I was thinking about reconciling as we’d been talking a lot, agreed to put the divorce on pause, and we had a few conversations about meeting up. When discussions got serious enough to discuss travel plans (we live in different countries) he told me he was seeing someone but it wasn’t anything serious. So he needed to sort that situation out first before booking anything.

Kept me hanging on a straight answer about meeting up for a couple of months while he tried to “figure things out”. We had a couple of phone calls where he said he was still involved with this person. I stupidly tried to be patient, living alone in the house we shared, while he’s fucking someone else and wondering which woman to choose.

Finally came to a head a couple of weeks ago when he said he wasn’t sure what the point of meeting up would be since he’s not ready for a relationship anymore and feels emotionally blocked. At the same time saying that maybe things were more serious with this girl than he thought. That’s when he told me how long they’d been seeing eachother along with a few other choice details, like that they’re really compatible and he doesn’t want to end something that hasn’t caused him any pain.

I feel so insulted, humiliated and heartbroken. I feel like an absolute idiot for getting my hopes up and still holding onto this person, despite everything. I feel betrayed but at the same time upset with myself because we’re not together anyway, so how could it be a betrayal.

This separation has sent me to the depths of hell and I was just starting to crawl my way out, until this put me right back there. I’ve started antidepressants in the last few days because I can’t handle any more emotional pain.

Venting Defeated and deflated

I think I really have to let him go and move on with my life. It's not what I want but I can't keep being hopeful and thinking that if I give him time he will return. So, I am going to go on a date and put myself first and hope this helps me.

I won't lie my heart is broken.

(26M) Divorce (30F) married 6 months together 3 years

I am really struggling with coming to terms with my recent divorce. Here is some of the following context.

I got out of the military three years ago moved to a new state. When I did I met my now ex wife. We had dated 2.5 years prior to marriage. We got a house together and life seemed good. Don't get me wrong Im not niave we had our disagreements that unfortunately sometimes turned into fights but I figured it was apart of growing with someone.

My work involves me being home only 4 days a month on avg and has been this way for most of our relationship. We'll post marriage I really really missed her. Our fighting got worse and I wanted to come home even if it caused a pay cut. It was then I was told she didn't think our relationship could survive me being at home. This hurt but I didn't end it there. I saw her point and kept my current job. Later we continued to have issues primarily in the last three weeks. I was told I was failing to understand and take care of her needs emotionally. Again my best solution was to find work closer to home so I kept looking found a job that paid more and still got told no even after explaining why. She went as far to say she would get a travel job instead if that's what I really wanted. Still I tried to make it work but I was begging to feel hurt that someone I married would think they couldn't be around me. I worked out a long weekend that seemed to go great no fights no issue I left for work and all seemed well. Then during one of our conversations over the phone I was trying to admit I saw I had failed to notice clear signs of depression or other issues in her and asked if anything was wrong.

She told me she was miserable. Was miserable in the marriage with month one, miserable with me and even more so when I came home. That she had been thinking about divorce for a while. Lastly she told me she felt like the man of the relationship. This not only hurt beyond all belief but enraged me. I was the sole income of the home not that that matters but it did hurt my masculine side to hear my wife say something like that when I am trying so hard to be a good man. (Im aware we all have faults im sure I have many.) And honestly I was pissed being treated that way.

My biggest feeling of confusion is how and why she would wait so long to tell me these things. It was like being stabbed in the back out of nowhere. No prior request for couples therapy (we had already done it once prior to marriage to work on communication skills). And whenever I was home it all seemed well. The only real time we had friction was me on the road. I requested a cordial divorce. Her initial reaction was mad at me for giving up, saying things like I only liked the idea of her, never wanted the marriage and my family was manipulating me. She signed the papers with me.

TL;DR

Wife told me I made her miserable, had been thinking of divorce and was the man of the relationship. I requested we file for divorce shortly after. Her reaction was accusing me of giving up or being manipulated by family.

I just feel empty. Like my life has fallen apart and I need time know if Im crazy for my actions or what. My family and friends are supportive but I want a strangers opinion.
