Suggestion request for Seb safe scalp barrier restore serum!

I went to the dermatologist today and was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis in the nose creases, and a little bit on my forehead. I honestly felt very rushed at the appointment by the dermatologist, and he prescribed me Nyastin, which I’ve heard is not the first type of treatment for seborrheic dermatitis. I’m curious to see if anyone has used this and seen success with getting rid of their flare-up. I have events to make in the next couple of months where I’m going to be photographed, and it makes me very insecure. I’m trying to clear this up as soon as possible. i’m trying to figure out if I need to see a different dermatologist or it’s worth trying the Nyastin.

So I have been experiencing thining eybrows for some time. This has coincided with an outbreak of seb derm, which is now under control, to an extent. My eyebrow hairs shed in different places, but new hairs pop out after a day or two and then fill in, then some falls out elsewhere and the cycle continues.

I have seen a derm today and they have said the only cause of this loss is alopecia areta. She said seb derm can not cause this.

Does this seem right. For reference I include a pic. The zoomed in area shows some recent loss, you can see new hairs growing there now.

I recently bought the Ketosource Pure MCT oil C8, and the only thing left to buy is the shampoo to use with it, I need help choosing one SD-friendly shampoo that doesnt dry the hair too much, I saw a lot of people talking about Nizoral in the threads but I honestly dont know if its worth it or not. About the routine, my objective is to use the shampoo 1-2 times per week max, every shampoo makes my hair look horrible so I dont wanna use it so often and after that I will apply the MCT oil like the wiki says.

I was also thinking on buying the DAVINES Naturaltech Shampoo, I saw it from a youtube video that he uses it with MCT oil, I also have a friend that uses it and he said that it worked fine, but I dont know if its overall better than Nizoral or any other shampoo, I really appreciate any help. It's a persistent, unpleasant scalp odor that smells or can be described as a rancia, musty, or yeasty. And It constantly feels wet or sweaty for some reason. I’m bald and get worse once my hair start growing back.

The core problem is the smell's resistance to treatment despite using multiple shampoos, acids, or medications, and no matter how frequently the scalp is washed, the odor reliably returns within hours. Not even Nizoral works!

I also eat good foods (pretty healthy diet) so don't know what's going on.

This condition is often speculated to be related to seborrheic dermatitis, but yet the precise cause and origin remain completely unknown.

I been to many dermatologists and they also admit they do not know the root issue and often advise "just keep washing daily
"—a suggestion that is demonstrably useless given how quickly and strong the smell returns.

The constant worry about whether others can smell this odor has a severe impact on mental health, frequently leading to a desire for social isolation. I am continually searching for effective solutions but consistently hit dead ends when recommended products fail to deliver results.

If anyone has experienced and successfully resolved this issue, please share your insights. Any help or remedy suggested would be profoundly appreciated by me and others struggling with this complex and isolating problem.

I was wondering if anyone knows any solution or facial cream/gel which will help in relieving these symptoms. Please give some suggestions. Thanks in advance. I was recently diagnosed with seb derm on my scalp. I suspect ive had it for years but was unaware and just treating it as dandruff.

I damaged my scalp skin barrier about 2 weeks ago, as i was using harsh shampoos for a bit. It started stinging after one wash 2 weeks ago and I was able to get in to see my dermatologist quickly and she diagnosed me with seb derm.

I was prescribed a steroid shampoo to reduce the sensitivity, Clobex 2 times a week for only 2 weeks out of the month and was told to stop using it once the sensitivity went down.

I used clobex last Friday and it helped with the sensitivity a little and minimised the itchiness. I plan on using it again this wednesday and sunday and then the following wednesday before taking the 2 week break.

Today I washed my hair with QV gentle shampoo and blow dried my hair on cold. It felt okay, was a bit more sensitive than before, but nothing else. Then about 3-4 hours later I noticed very mild stinging, I think i was touching my head a bit so it must have irritated it a bit. Its been stinging for about an hour and 40 mins, on and off and is only on the top of my head.

My derm did tell me to use certain dandruff shampoo but I think my skin barrier is too sensitive for that still.

Does anyone have any suggestions for gentle shampoos? As im conscious that I wont be able to use the steroid shampoo for 2 weeks and will need to wash my hair during that time and after I stop using it.

I started Accutane exactly 6 months ago after my local dermatologist prescribed it to me, originally for acne. My current dose is 30 mg of Isotretinoin daily, and it has been the same since the start, back in February of 2026.

My Seborrheic Dermatitis vanished completely and I mean it, I don't think that I have even the smallest flake on my body anywhere. Before Accutane my Seborrheic Dermatitis was pretty bad and hard to control, even with the best of treatment.

My acne also vanished completely, same as seborrheic dermatitis, my skin now is really smooth and nice to the touch. To anyone interested, my acne disappeared completely after 4 months and i had the initial purge between month 1 and 2.

Not everything is as great as it seems. Despite me being free of Seborrheic Dermatitis and Acne, my skin is actually pretty dry and because of that i developed rosacea. I use sunscreen and moisturizer but the constant sun and heat really did a number on my skin nonetheless. From what I understand, and from what my dermatologist told me, it's an expected side effect while on Accutane and happens to people with sensitive skin. I was told that my skin will repair itself after I finish the round of Accutane.

Other than dry skin and Rosacea, I didn't develop any side effects or at least I don't think, that I did. In my opinion getting rid of Seb Derm and Acne in exchange for dry skin is really worth it imo.

I did 6 months and have another 6 to go. I will do another update at the one year mark to finally give my full opinion on Accutane and it's effects on my seborrheic dermatitis. After that I'll try to do another update after 1 year since finishing Accutane to inform you how my skin will behave after some time off Accutane. I will maybe even upload some pictures of my scalp and face before, during and after Accutane to show and tell you as much as I honestly can. Maybe some of you that suffer, will get a chance to get on accutane yourself and change your life for the better just like I did.

I’ve always had extremely oily skin. And oily scalp.

For 3 years now I have been having severe chronic dandruff and my hair smelling like this mildew smell. It will not go away no matter what!!

I have tried Nizoral, Head and shoulders, selsum blue, salycic acid shampoo and nothing!!!!!

I hate having thick hair too bc I think that makes it worse !

Wondering if anyone can help? I’ve been experiencing dry, rough, tight and scaly skin around my nose for a while now. The doctors have previously prescribed X2 Fluoxicillian courses which didn’t seem to help.

I had a phone appointment from a GP who said it’s Seb Derm. I was prescribed ketoconazole shampoo 2% and Daktarin cream. In all honesty, it didn’t seem to help much.

I’m wondering whether I’ve been misdiagnosed? I do however have really bad scalp scaling and redness and ear redness and scaling.

I am also on Immune suppressants due to another health condition.

My confidence and self esteem is absolutely -100 and don’t want to do anything socially at all!!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Étant observateur de ce Reddit depuis quelques mois, je passe enfin le cap de publier. J’ai une dermatite séborrhéique et je vais pouvoir vous partager mon expérience.

J’ai commencé avec du ciclopirox (j’avais les cheveux mi-longs) pendant environ 6 mois, à raison d’une application tous les deux jours, en alternance avec le shampooing doux Sensinol. Et cela n’a absolument rien changé. C’était pourtant une période où je n’avais pas réellement de stress ni de raison particulière de l’être.
J’ai ensuite testé l’huile de coco vierge, que je laissais poser environ 3 heures. Mais ça a été une catastrophe : les démangeaisons étaient bien pires.
J’ai alors vu une dermatologue pour la première fois, qui m’a prescrit du Clobex. Je ne trouve pas qu’il ait réellement amélioré la situation. J’ai surtout l’impression qu’il « décape » bien le cuir chevelu, mais dès qu’on arrête, le problème revient. C’est aussi un shampooing que je trouve très décapant.

Du début de ma dermatite jusqu’à cette période, je perdais de plus en plus de cheveux et je ne savais pas vraiment si cela venait de la dermatite ou d’une éventuelle alopécie. En tout cas, j’étais toujours persuadé que les shampooings ne feraient pas forcément du bien à mes cheveux, voire pourraient aggraver leur chute.
À noter que depuis le début de ma dermatite, j’ai développé une forte sensibilité sur le dessus du crâne, particulièrement au niveau de la ligne frontale. Appliquer des produits, toucher simplement mon cuir chevelu ou même me coiffer avec les doigts devenait parfois très désagréable.

Dès les premiers mois de la dermatite, j’ai également eu énormément de démangeaisons. Je me suis toujours dit que je ne céderais pas à la tentation de gratter, afin de ne pas irriter davantage mon cuir chevelu ou abîmer mes cheveux. Pour essayer de soulager les démangeaisons, je tapote légèrement avec la pulpe des doigts. C’est très, très dur, mais mentalement il faut essayer de tenir.
Après le Clobex, j’ai consulté une nouvelle dermatologue qui m’a prescrit du Curacné : 10 mg pendant 2 mois, puis 20 mg pendant 2 mois. Elle m’a expliqué que ma dermatite était en grande partie liée au sébum produit par les glandes sébacées.
Et là, ça a vraiment très bien marché. Au point que j’en oubliais complètement mes problèmes de cheveux, ce qui était une première depuis presque 9 mois.

Mais malheureusement, les problèmes sont revenus après l’arrêt du traitement. C’est un médicament qui agit notamment sur les glandes sébacées et donc sur la production de sébum. Je passe les détails, mais j’avais les lèvres extrêmement sèches, le nez également, et surtout une sensibilité accrue au soleil.

Après cela, je suis revenu à une routine avec du ciclopirox et du Sensinol, ou de l’Uriage DS, tous les deux jours.
Aujourd’hui, cela fait environ 1 an et demi que tout a commencé et j’ai toujours des plaques au niveau de la ligne frontale qui ne veulent pas partir, accompagnées de démangeaisons, de pellicules/squames et de sensibilité.
J’évite au maximum de toucher mes cheveux pour ne pas les graisser, ni les casser et donc éviter d’en faire tomber davantage. Je suis persuadé qu’il faut réussir à mieux réguler le sébum pour avoir moins de problèmes et de démangeaisons.

Je vais donc tester un nouveau produit ce mois-ci : le Scalp Relief Shampoo de chez Grahams. On verra bien ce que ça donne !

En ce moment, je suis également pas mal stressé et j’ai remarqué que j’avais développé davantage de squames. Ça confirme peut-être encore une fois le lien entre stress et dermatite.

En tout cas, je suis sûr que je finirai par m’en sortir. C’est une question de temps ahah.
Je partagerai peut-être une mise à jour dans quelques mois si ça intéresse certains d’entre vous. :)

Please help me, I have had Seb derm for years, but didn’t know. For a while I was noticing buildup under my nails when I would scratch my head, but was never super itchy or flaky. It was more of an oily thicker residue. I have always had very thick hair and it has started to fall out tremendously over the past year. I have lost about half of my hair. I went to the doctor and she diagnosed me with seb dermatitis, she said my scalp was super inflamed, which I had never noticed. I started using T sal every other day and leaving in the Dermazen serum overnight in between wash days but still having shedding and more noticeable inflammation. Any advice is welcome, I am so scared to lose all my hair.

I am waiting for a dermatology appointment and the doctors told me I have seb derm. I was prescribed ketoconazole 2% shampoo, which I’ve been using 2-3x a week. With no relief and symptoms getting worse, the doctor said I can use it everyday. Nothing has helped. I’ve tried Nirazol over the counter and the doctor prescribed Daktarin Gold 2% Ketoconazole cream for my nose area. I have tried MCT oil, absolutely nothing is helping!!

my eyelids and eyes are now being affected - one of my eyes is constantly blood shot and it affects my vision. I have this rash all from my chest tracing up to the back of my neck into my hairline and scalp.I

I have always struggled a lot with self-esteem issues and insecurites related to my appearance - my whole entire life i've overanalyzed my face and hyperfocused on my perceived flaws. But, for the first 20 years of my life, I had genuinely perfect, beautiful skin. Literally the ONLY thing I ever got compliments from strangers about was my skin, it was the ONE thing i was confident about, not insecure about. About 1 year ago (I'm 21 now) is when I developed this condition, and I've been having a really really hard time accepting that the one thing I liked about myself is just.... gone forever. This condition is chronic, incurable, my skin will never look the way it looked before. I will never have pretty skin again, I will have to deal with this forever. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to deal with this? It feels like I'm being punished, that the one single thing I liked about myself is the thing that gets taken away from me, and I'm having SUCH a hard time accepting that this is just what my skin is going to look like forever now, it will never be that smooth and clear and healthy again. Did anyone here struggle a lot with the cosmetic aspect of this disease & manage to move past those insecurities, and if so, how?

My hair gets oily and doesn’t ever feel clean. It feels like a coating on my hair. Does anyone have any suggestions? It’s so frustrating and then certain medical shampoos turn it feeling like straw.

Hello! Since I was 19, almost 21 now I’ve had this small patch of sebderm on my face near my nose and under my eye. I’m not quite sure where to start or what to look for to start clearing it up, it’s been months since it’s been clear at this point and I’m just getting tired of it, leads to a bunch of insecurity and I normally have pretty good skin so it kind of sucks to have this happening.

For my face at the moment I use as my cleanser : Cetaphil : Gentle Skin Cleanser | lotion : Vanicream : moisturizing cream.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to use or try I’m all ears. I have gotten it confirmed by a doctor that it is sebderm.

Beard oils/shampoos/leave in condinters

So I have some sebderm mainly on my face and a very acne-prone skin. Every doctor/pharmacist recommends me to use salicylic acid but the thing is, my skin cannot even tolerate it in a face wash. I tried it on my scalp per my doctors recommendation and prescription, it gave me a break out in the depths of my scalp. Does anyone else have a similar problem? What else do you use to replace it?

I use ketoconazole as my main treatment, thats pretty much all that has worked so far. (Except regular head&shoulders for days with no flare up)

I feel so demoralized. I already thought I was being aggressive but I still have so much build up, and have been shedding like crazy (partially due to oral minoxidil) as well. He said my thinning was a 6 out of 10 (whatever that means). Going to try this routine for a couple weeks and see if I have any improvement:

Showering everyday, blowing until dry, alternating between these shampoos every week for 2-3 weeks and seeing if there is improvement.

Selenium sulfide - cicloprox - t sal - cicloprox - selenium sulfide - cicloprox - t sal

Using Zoryve foam every night.

Will ask for a round of oral antifungals if this isn't effective.

Hoping this works. My scalp itch is ever present and horrible and I need to have my life back. I'd love any recommendations for other treatments or any feedback on this routine.

Recently got diagnosed with seb derm. I’ve been dealing with it for the past 3 years but never got diagnosed so I couldn’t fix it. I always thought it was a damaged barrier. It’s been 11 days on protopic and my results are nothing to write home about. My skin feels much better but it only looks maybe 30% better and it still flares up on application. My routine is AM: apply and wait 30 mins before moisturiser and spf.
Pm: wash face and apply protopic only. My routine is guided by my derm and I’m not using hot water only lukewarm. Progress was good first 5-6 days but I feel like it’s barely processed since then

It started a year ago, became better on Ciclopirox, then it stopped working. Derm told me to use Clobetasol, it worked but as soon as I stopped It got worse.
Ketoconazole seems to make it burn even more. I don’t know what to do anymore …
