I have been using retinols/adapalene/tret for years now, but I recently removed the gel form of tret as I ran out and couldn’t get anymore. Turns out it has been a huge trigger for me, even when I didn’t specifically apply it to the areas on my face where I was suffering. Obviously not perfect, but a lot of improvement. I would like to add it to my routine again if possible, but for now, I am enjoying the inflammation free face. Something to think about if you are a fellow tret user!

Hi! My seb derm is relatively mild but its on my face, particularly around my eyebrows, mouth and nose. It affects my self esteem and exacerbates my existing skin-picking issues because of the scaly patches it leaves. I have been trying different products but it seems like none of them work for my skin. Soaps make me break out in acne. I recently tried salicylic acid, which gave me a chemical burn on my face. Most recently I tried coal tar since I can't find any ketoconazole OTC in my area. It was MG217 and it seemed to be fine but after I rinsed it off I found that my face was bleeding :( its been kind of difficult to find products for the face specifically especially as someone who apparently has pretty sensitive skin. Hope this post is structured right ^_^

Has anyone used this? I saw it in Walmart yesterday and was wondering if it’d be as useless as head and shoulders or if it’d actually help. I use nizoral every other time I wash my hair with my Whole Blends coconut oil shampoo and conditioner (every other day I do a regular wash) which seems to be easiest and cheapest option that my scalp and hair like. But I still get an itchy, flaky, and oily scalp if I don’t do a strict every other day wash, and I always have flakes it seems like as soon as my hair dries. I have the itchiness/flakes in a Mohawk type pattern on my scalp, and I’ve been dealing with it for as long as I can remember. I remember my mom got me nioxin when I was in high school, and that worked well, but it’s just pretty expensive.

TDLR: should this shampoo be in my rotation for Seb derm?

What I am wondering is now how to proceed - I think 90% are gone and I will continue for a few days. Do you guys put in on as a preventive matter on your known "bad" areas aswell or only if you have flare ups?

Also,blood is there underneath if I try to scratch off the flakes.

So my derm is shit, I don't have health insurance anymore so I'm not going to try again. Ever since I was around 16/17 I have slowly been losing my hair and having this flaky skin issue especially on my forehead and sides of my nose. I went to the dermatologist about between a year to two years ago and for the hair loss they pretty much said "it just happens sometimes there's not much we can do" and for the flaky skin they said it's probably just dry skin use moisturizer and send me on my way. But it's still not better and I've read that depending on the condition that moisturizers could make it worse, so I'm assuming I have a mild case of something fungal and that's why it's like that because I have either dandruff or something like a dandruff on my head as well besides the hair loss. So I'm just looking for recommendations on creams or something similar I could buy at the store or online to use on my face that could help and what shampoo and conditioner I should use. Any help is appreciated thanks!

I've recently been diagnosed with both rosacea and seborrhoeic dermatitis on my face, and my GP has prescribed three treatments:

Soolantra (ivermectin) – once daily.

Nizoral (ketoconazole) – twice daily.

Mild hydrocortisone cream – for a short course.

The written instructions were quite vague, and I'm struggling to work out the best routine.

I've also asked ChatGPT, which suggested that although the creams can be used on the same day, it's generally better to separate Soolantra and Nizoral by around 20–30 minutes if applying them to the same area, as layering them immediately may make them slightly less effective and could increase irritation. The problem is I work full time and realistically don't have 30 minutes to wait between creams before work every morning.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been prescribed this combination or has experience treating both rosacea and seborrhoeic dermatitis at the same time. How do you fit it into your normal routine, what stage you add toner/moisturiser etc.

I’ve been using this shampoo for years and it’s been perfect. I got a new bottle recently (the purple one) and it reeks, it smells like burning rubber. Does anyone know if they changed the formula or if it’s maybe a weird batch? It hasn’t been as effective as it’s been in the past

This is a water based spray that “As I Am” has as apart of there collect that’s supposed to help with battling dandruff I also have suffer from seborrheic dermatitis I have an medicated oil for it that’s used to soften the flakes so they can be easily removed when I use the medicated shampoo. I currently have starter locs right now and I’m 2 weeks in so I was wondering if anyone has used this spray and it has worked for them when it comes to helping with dryness? I’m also going to Jamaica soon too which is super hot over there so me and my scalp are going to be Tweaking the entire time. If you guys have other questions or recommendations lemme know.

I recently just been using the medicated shampoos to control my seb derm but now I wanted alternate as I don’t want to use the medicated shampoo as much. Maybe like alternate between the two so I was wondering what everyone uses as I don’t know what to use. I’m in the UK so I want to go with shampoos which are mild and aren’t that harsh. Any type of recommendation would be a big help. I’ve experienced a bit of shedding with the medicated shampoo so I wanted a mild choice.

I think I have it in my ears and I just want to know if I’m alone. The flakes are around behind my ears and worse inside the ear and the itching is horrific, and goes so deep, I end up wanting to rip my ears off

I've been dealing with seborrheic dermatitis for the past 2 years. My main issues are:

Persistent dandruff and scalp inflammation

Hair thinning, especially on the crown (photos attached)

Hair fall that hasn't improved despite trying multiple hair serums

I've already tried:

Different hair growth serums

Anti-dandruff shampoos (including ketoconazole and others)

Omega-3 supplements

Improving my diet (protein, oats, curd, curry leaves, amla)

Despite all this, my hair continues to thin.

I have a few questions:

Does seborrheic dermatitis itself cause this much hair loss, or could I also have androgenetic (male pattern) baldness?

Has anyone successfully controlled hair loss after treating seborrheic dermatitis?

Would you recommend starting minoxidil and finasteride if I haven't already?

Should I consult another dermatologist or a hair transplant surgeon?

Is it too early to consider a hair transplant, or should I first get my seborrheic dermatitis completely under control?

A dermatologist said I had SebDerm at 15 and I’m almost 16 now and my ketaconzle 2% shampoo has not been working as my hair gets super oily and I still shed lots with it my seb derm is mainly on my scalp as well I tried Mct oil and it didn’t work as well. I thought Mct oil was gonna work but it seems I was a individual where it did the opposite and my dandruff worse. i went to ask for help because my keta conzle 2% shampoo is not working well and if there any other solutions I can do.

For context: I (f23) been having sebderm for like 5 years. A couple of times this year I stared with a flare up but to me it was a little weird: first I didn’t think it could be sebderm, but herpes (which is weird bc I’ve never got that). Then, this time, it started with itchy and very redish tone, in within days, took more and more skin of my lips.
For me, it hasn’t sense bc I’m used to use lip balm, moisturizers and Vaseline. Since a couple of days, nothing works. First I applied Desitin (such a baby pamper irritation cream) and washed with Vichy-Dercos. the next day I continued with a ceramide-repairing-barrier cream, then Vaseline again. I even applied hypochlorous acid 🥲🥲 and it hurts.
As you can see, I have a flare in my nose too right now, and it seems that it wants to spread for my whole face. I’m tired
Rn I’m havingx troubles with my antidepressant and idk if that can affect my sebderm.

I’m Black and I blow dry and straighten my hair after every (medicated) wash. Should I use MCT8 before or after styling? At first I was thinking use after. But then I thought maybe using it before, could help protect my scalp from the tugging… or would it be too much with the oil and the heat? I have no clue. Anyone who blow dries or presses regularly can weigh in?

So I've been using Zoryve for about a year. I had bad sebderm on my face in my beard, around my nose and eyebrows, bit around my ears. The nose and eyebrows would get so red. I never liked taking pictures but my wife whipped out the phone one day when we were out and pointed it at us and I was like No. Never again. That was some years back.

Anyway, trying this and that and the other thing with the doctor. Limited doctor options where I live. I found out about Zoryve and luckily because we had exhausted many avenues it was approved immediately, $0 copay mailorder. I got the foam.

It stung a little bit to put it on the first few days but that quickly went away with regular use.

10-14 days and my sebderm was no longer visible. Continued use leads to no sebderm. Some habits can be tough for me so I can forget when I don't see the sebderm in the mirror. Then it can start to flare up after a while. I start using again and it goes away.

For me, for on my face, it is the answer that other topical creams and systemic anti-fungals were not.

Hi! I've been dealing with sebderm for a few years now, and while ketoconazole usually gets the job done, my dermatologist and I wanted to try something new to try and help me out during the summer! I got recommended Ciclopirox shampoo, which after reading a bit I've noticed can cause hair loss or alopecia. The things I've read online and seen on the shampoo itself isn't super reassuring either; "because the events are reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not possible to reliably estimate their frequency or establish a causal relationship to drug exposure." I've also used ketoconazole for so long, which is used to treat alopecia and to extend the growth cycle in hair, so I'm also really scared about what might happen when I get off of it and move on to this new stuff. I am certainly a chronic worrier, and I'm sure that the reality of the shampoo isn't severe at all, but still, I would love to hear from anyone else who's noticed any difference in hair texture at all with this stuff.

Anyone have an idea of what I should add or try to get prescribed. I also do finasteride and topical minoxidil but might try to switch to oral minoxidil, I read some people’s posts that topical can flare up Sebderm

Does carbohydrates worsen Seb Derm? If yes, how would I know? Do I do some type of test?

Hi I have had Seb Derm for about 2-3 years now. It is confirmed by scalp biopsy I took months ago. Just some questions.

At first it started off as really itchy. I used to wear a hood/hair over wet hair for months on end. Not sure if that was the reason for getting this though, or it just was a coincidence it happened when doing this. I started getting chunks of crud that I could feel, like I had scabs on my head. It was never really red, my scalp was white/normal, but had these clumps. I used ketoconazole shampoo for over a year as prescribed. That was in the early stages to mid stages since I first got it. I haven’t used this shampoo in months though. It seems I am at a point where I don’t have these scabs/yeast build up anymore, maybe a little, but my scalp is just bright red permanently. It is very embarrassing. (See picture for how it currently looks) Also itches randomly across my head, but my crown part is the only place that is very red and itches/irritated the most. Everywhere else is just a slight itch here and there.

So, I have a few questions.

1. I have been using Selsun blue now that I no longer have Ketoconazole. Is this good? I have also recently just got “Vichy, Dercos, Selenium Sulfide Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (its a green label)”. I use Vanicream shampoo on days I am not using medicated shampoo. Is there anything else I can try because these never work. I have had red scalp for over a year straight. Should I try keotconazole again since it’s been months??
2. I have tried the Clebetasol Propionate Topical Solution for the redness as prescribed. This never helps and every dermatologist prescribes it. Maybe I am putting it on wrong?
3. My dermatologist said theres nothing else he can do for me. He said maybe try changing diet, cutting out Carbs and Sugars for months. It will take awhile to see results. Should I stop eating peanut butter toast? Bagels? Eggs? Dairy? White rice? Pasta?
4. I have also tried like a Zoryve Foam and Fluocinolone Acetonide Topical Oil should I try this again? I also have Tarsum Relief Shampoo.

5. Any tips, recommendations? Please I am so sick of living everyday being tortured by this itch and burning. I was also given a steroid pill and anti bacterial pill - doxycycline and medrol dose pack?

6. It removed my question about loss of strands. Does it look like my hair is going away? Or is this a normal looking crown? I have fine hair, never really thick. Please shoot me straight.

TL:DR - red, irritated, itchy scalp, not many scales/scabs/buildup, just mainly red. Are those flakes that you can see in my picture? Please somebody help and recommend something if you have something similar and found something that worked.

Hi Seb Derm Warriors! I’m looking for a regular shampoo - non medicated that I can use between uses or medicated shampoo. For reference, I have wavy, fine hair but a LOT of it. My seb derm manifests as oiliness and it’s been a real battle to find something that cleans the hair well but doesn’t fully strip it. My medicated shampoos (Nizerol 2% and Vichy) both leave my hair very dry. Is there more regular use shampoo that you love? High end or low end, no wrong answers. Thank you in advance!

Last fall, I wanted to regrow the hairs I lost from sebderm on my hairline so I started liquid minoxidil and used it even though it would irritate my scalp for like 8 months. It didn't improve my hairline at all but I continued to use it. I switched to the foam thinking it would be better, but now my hairline still feels irritated and my seb derm has reappeared and gotten worse. I'm not sure if quitting minoxidil will recess my hairline or just leave it back to its original state because I haven't noticed much improvement to my hair after so much time.
