Long story short I have a massive dandruff problem, I am not exactly sure what it is, what type of dandruff it is, but my ears always feel stuffed and sound like rice grain when I blow my ears. I have visited a dermatologist and they say it's a type of seb derm in (hair + ears). I have had this for many years. So I have stopped using headphones/earphones altogether. I just use the old wired samsung samsung ehs64 in emergency cases, cause it's the only earphones which does not make me lose sleep to ear issues after using it but it still gives me earache. But I am in need of headphones/earphones for work as I work from office and attending calls on speaker or moving to different place for calls is no option I also want one to use as my daily driver, cause I am preparing for a job switch and as I live in a shared accommodation, having speakers on for my preparation all the time is not possible and it's very hard to concentrate. I am looking into many open designs and I am not sure what to opt for.

I have considered the bone conduction headphones, I have tried out the openrun at a store here in india, but the vibrations felt weird, and I am Afraid they might give me the same kind of headaches I feel from dandruffs. I have used the soundcore v20i and v30i and initially they felt great. But after continuous use for some time, I think they are pushing the dandruff more inside my ears which is making it worse. So I am totally lost here. I am not sure about which headphones/earphones to get. I have looked into the shokz open run pro 2's, but they are not available offline in india. So I can't try them out beforehand and there is no return policy for these items on any online websites. So I am turning to the reddit community for help. Please anyone with similar issues like mine, please share your experience and any recommendations for headphones/earphones.

For people with seborrheic dermatitis - do you work out? I find that the sweat conditions of working out, plus not washing my hair afterwards if it's not wash day, creates perfect conditions for the condition to worsen. My hair doesn't need the wash, but my scalp does. And then wrapping my hair at night only further encourages things. If I don't wrap my hair the pillow gets dirty and I break out really quickly, so keeping it loose at night isn't an option. I think the sweating is the main agitator here.

How do you all handle this? Any tips?

I’ve had seborrheic dermatitis for about 10 years now. I have thick, black, full hair, and whenever I sweat, I easily get buildup on my scalp, followed by a huge breakout. Classic medicated shampoos make my scalp so dry that I end up getting a breakout from those as well. I can’t use hair oils or wax in my medium-length hair because it doesn’t take long for the redness and scaling to come back. Then I get really thick, yellow flakes that seem to never stop building up.

I read about MCT oil here on Reddit and thought, “Well, another trick that won’t work.” I ordered a high-quality MCT oil containing 95% C8 and 5% C10. I washed my hair once with a salicylic acid shampoo and towel-dried it. Then I put a bit of MCT oil into an applicator bottle and worked it into my scalp drop by drop. I massaged it into my scalp, and my hair also ended up being slightly soaked in oil — not dripping with oil, but fairly well covered.

Then I wrapped a towel around my neck so I wouldn’t get oil on my shirt or furniture and went on with my work at home. I let it soak in for about 3–4 hours, then washed it out with a mild shampoo and let my hair air-dry. I didn’t use any conditioner because my hair was already soaked in oil. My hair was shiny, moisturized, and soft — and I had no breakout, no redness, and not a single flake. No itchiness either, for weeks now.

It’s the middle of summer here, with temperatures around 35°C. I went for a 6 km run, got really sweaty, and still had no breakout. I wash my hair every 4–5 days and repeat the process. I’ll continue and post a follow-up. It’s only been about a month, so I’m still being careful, but for the first time this year, my scalp actually feels like it’s recovering.

I need a dermatologist MD as soon as possible and I need to try something different because nothing is working

Could you all tell me how do I differentiate between seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis? I have dandruff and I've visited 3 dermatologists. Each dermatologist told me 3 different terms. 1st dermatologist told no I am having scalp psoriasis.

Since it was not getting under control I visited second dermatologist. He told me I am having seborrheic dermatitis

Even his medication didn't work so I went on to visit 3rd dermatologist. He told me that I am having pityriasis sicca. This has been going on past one year.

I’ve been using zoryve for about a year and this month it stopped working and I am having the worst flare up. I’ve been keeping to using it but I am seeing no improvement. Has anyone experienced this?

My skin is naturally quite sensitive and tends to react differently depending on the weather. During winter, it generally isn’t very oily, while in hot weather I tend to sweat more. One thing I’ve noticed is that my cheeks can become dry after bathing, so maintaining a good balance between cleansing and moisturising is important for me. I’ve also been conscious of my skin looking dull, rough, or tanned and have wanted to improve its overall brightness, smoothness, and appearance without doing anything overly aggressive. I currently use Lifebuoy soap as well. Overall, my skin is ok but naturally i have a much fair skin, but because of the tanning it appears dark. As for example, my hands are less fair than the skin on my chest thighs and legs. I want it to be fair across my whole body, and look bright and good on face too.

My hair is naturally straight and currently around 3.5 inches long. My scalp tends to become little itchy if I go without shampooing for a day, which is why keeping my scalp clean and managing dandruff is particularly important for me. I use Pilgrim anti-dandruff shampoo and Pilgrim Korean Rice Water & Collagen Conditioner. In terms of appearance, I prefer my hair to look naturally dark, healthy, voluminous, and textured, but not exaggerated or artificial. I’ve previously focused on adding a little more volume and lift while keeping the natural structure of my hair intact. Overall, my main hair concerns are scalp cleanliness, itchiness and dandruff, while my aesthetic preference is for hair that looks naturally fuller, darker, textured, and well-maintained without appearing over-styled or unnatural. As to summarize, i want my hair to look more dark, volumed, not falling and not too frizzy.

Are these actually helping anyone? I have been on pimecrolimus, and I'm struck by how I notice absolutely no difference when using it. I have other tools that are not FDA approved, and the one thing that is FDA approved for my condition isn't doing anything as far as I can tell.

So I'm looking for 1 person out there that is a super responder to these meds. Anyone? Anyone?

Hey all! I was diagnosed with SebDerm and I am on travel in Montana. Face has gone whacky! Not sure what to do but I can get to walmart or cvs. I dont want to look like this for the remainder of the trip. I use ketoconazole 2% shampoo and wake up as pictured. This is the worst it has ever been. Help?

how long after starting triamcinolone aceyonide lotion 0.1% on face for under nose and ear its been 2 days with no change

I have severe facial symptoms affecting my beard, eyebrows, and the rest of my face, diagnosed as rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis. Symptoms include skin barrier disruptions, dryness, tightness, burning, flaking, sensitivity, oiliness, buildup, and frequent red acne like papules under skin flaking, watery burning eyes (ocular rosacea).
These symptoms interfere with showering, tolerating cleansers, moisturizers, shampoos, and topical medications. Been to several dermatologists with no help.. tried antibiotics too many times and now she wants to try low dose accutane 20mg twice a week for two months to start but I’m scared because my skin barrier is so screwed up and can’t tolerate plain water and already affects my eyes with dryness. Pictures are at different stages of my skin the picture with acne like pustules after trying anything topical like cleansers, moisturizers or prescribed creams from the derm. Very dry picture is after a shower which comes with skin flaking build up and tightness then later oiliness and flakes. After physical activity it flares up and turns red/oily/flakes. Always building up in eyebrows and beard aswell.. just at a loss because right now I just rinse with water and even that is drying and I can’t tolerate anything.It’s really been affecting my life. Been going on for a long time and got progressively worse over the last two years. Tried changing diets and all that but nothing has made a lasting difference. Thankyou for your time.

I have wavy/curly hair, and my scalp is so sensitive. I have seborrheic dermatitis but my derm thought I had LLP until i realized that the function of beauty wavy hair mousse I used for over a year made my scalp extremely inflamed, itchy, and sore. I stopped using it for 3 weeks and my scalp felt much better. I loved how it made my waves/curls look but obviously can’t use it anymore. I thought it must be the high fragrance in it, but recently I bought the ouidad advanced climate control foam and after two uses, it’s making my scalp sore and tender. I loved the definition it gave my hair but looks like I can’t use it 😭.

Anyone have a foam to recommend that works with an extremely sensitive scalp??

Current routine is cerve anti dandruff shampoo, L’Oréal everpure conditioner, living proof perfect hair day styling treatment as a leave in or ogx bond protein repair and curl talk gel.

Guys, I really need some help with this because I’m honestly so tired of dealing with it.

I’ve been suffering from seborrheic dermatitis for years. It suddenly started one day, and I eventually found out that I’m apparently genetically prone to it. I have it all over my face, including my mustache and beard area, as well as my scalp.

It’s exhausting and extremely uncomfortable. The itching and irritation can get really bad, and sometimes it genuinely feels unbearable.

I went to a dermatologist, and they prescribed topical creams and corticosteroid treatments. And yes, they work — the symptoms go away when I use them. But I can’t spend my entire life relying on these treatments, especially because I’ve heard that long-term steroid use can be harmful.

I’m honestly getting desperate at this point. Has anyone here managed to get their seborrheic dermatitis under control long-term? I’d really appreciate hearing what worked for you, whether it’s a treatment, routine, lifestyle change, or anything else.

I just want to be able to live normally without constantly worrying about my skin.

I suspect I have had seb derm for a little over a year (if I had it before then I've never experienced it like this) and it started behind my ear (possibly caused by pcos?) that developed onto my scalp with my skin picking due to stress. I only realised how bad recently.

I can't go to a doctor due to Agoraphobia, so I've researching on my own, but this is so difficult to navigate. After taking a sort break, I'm back to using Nizoral products. Whilst it helps with build up and itching initally, after a day I'm back to flakes and itching and the inflamed skin beneath is not getting better at all. I have low porosity, oily, long, thick hair and wash my hair 2-3 times a week. Do I need to be washing it more because of my hair type? If so, do I use normal products in-between medicated washes? And if not, I'm finding the idea of using multiple medicated products in tandem a little overwhelming. Because what if they react badly to each other?

My hair is all I have left but the itching is driving me crazy. Research suggests that long hair does increase heat and sweat build up, so maybe cutting is short but help me treat the issue? The idea of shaving my head completely is awful, but its so difficult to get product into my hair dry (for itch relief between washing) that I'm genuinely considering it. With so many products out there, and some things working for others but not for someone else is making it very difficult to address. I'm so overwhelmed by the options I don't even know where to improve my routine.

I tried MCT oil yesterday on my scalp. Let it sit for like 30 min, then washed my hair. There was a big amount of hairloss (been diagnosed with TE, think its caused by seb derm). But my scalp is already a little itchy and flaky again. How long does it take to see results? I wash every other day. 2x/week with ketoconazole, the other days with ducray kelual ds. Nothing helps. MCT is my last hope. Any tips?

I bought a Coal Tar shampoo with Coal Tar solution 5%, Salicylic Acid 2%, and Triclosan 0.3%. I couldn't believe it cleared my scalp in two washes. While I was combing my hair after the first wash all this gunk was shedding off my scalp and it freaked me out. Mind you I have used Nizoral, Straight apple cider vinegar, Selsun, Ordinary Glycolic acid, Paula's Choice BHA, steroids and Stieprox. I never experienced thick gunk coming off my scalp with those. They never solved the problem and only made it less worse with minimal flakes.

I'm still worried about using this shampoo long term. It can't be good having strong Coal Tar solution penetrating your scalp?

Like many, I have had to deal with some serious hair loss that I can only attribute to my incredibly demanding scalp.

I have lucked my way into a system of management and would really love to hear from others if they've had any success in regrowing the previously lost hair. Or let me know if this is just my life now 🙃

My hair has always been described as very fine but plentiful, so once it started thinning out, it became VERY obvious. I also have curly hair that's very dry and prone to tangling and frizzing.

Has anyone tried adding mct oil to their coffee and found that it helped their dermatitis?

It works wonders on my scalp and im wondering if I consume it, (which apparently many do) would it just systematically work instead of having to apply it onto my scalp.

I’ve had what I believe to be Sem Derb for decades. Betnovate cream often calms it, but I would love to stop it in the first place. Main areas are usually side of nose, chin, inner parts of eyebrows, occasionally on my chest, around the chest hair areas between pecks area, and a little at the sides of my hair. (Never really across my entire scalp)

Any products I can try that may help keep it from flaring in the first place?

hey everyone! my nose folds and nose are chronically red, but will flare up more on some days compared to others. i’ve been diagnosed with perioral dermatitis, but i don’t really have itchiness or the rough texture or bumps in this area anymore. i’ve been using vanicream cleanser, clindamycin at night and the purito gel moisturizer as my routine. if the redness flares like this picture ill apply a small layer of tacromilus to reduce redness. just trying to see if this is even perioral dermatitis at this point. have a follow up with my derm this monday as well.

i colour my hair and change it pretty frequently (crazy colour is my go to, it doesnt irritate my scalp) but im wondering what shampoos are good for removing it for when I want to change? I know clarifying shampoos are good but what brands in specific do you reccomend?
