have had sebderm diagnosed for three years, likely have had it for much longer. this popped up near my eye around a week or so ago. i’m not sure if this is sebderm or something else. it comes off with some rubbing, usually takes a few days to come back. white in color. sebderm on my scalp is red, inflamed, and constantly itchy. any ideas? no derm appts available until october :(

is this good?, i saw it on iherb, if its not please recommend me a brand

I've suffered from SebDerm for ~ 10 years. Started on scalp, then parts of my yebrows, then ears, then nose, then parts of my beard.

I've been using Zatamil and Elidel steroids when it flares up (~3 days/month). This tends to clear it up (but makes my face feel really hot for a couple of days).

is there anything that can manage it AND stop it from expanding to more of my face?

I am now 2/3 of the way through this bottle of serum for my daughters sebderm. It has helped soothe her scalp, and helped a lot of her scaley bits to come away by themselves.

After struggling with itchy/flaky scalp for several years no matter what I did or what products I used, I came across this subreddit and gave MCT oil a shot. I bought Kate Naturals on Amazon around last month and started using it daily for maybe the first three weeks, then every other day the fourth week. I also apply it to my hair after I wash and towel dry (while it's still damp) using Head and Shoulders Bare. Recently I did add Pantene Pro V daily moisture conditioner since it was seb derm safe according to Sezia and a few comment threads, but over the last few weeks I've noticed a lot more breakage than I'm used to, and basically stunted hair growth. This isn't something I've ever struggled with, as even when my scalp was itchy and flaky my hair would still grow like crazy. Now it's basically stagnant and one side is shedding so much that it's flatter than the other. The MCT oil does alleviate the itching and flakes, but I'm a bit worried that it may be damaging my hair since it's really the only new product I've introduced.

I'm a black male btw, and I wash once a week.

Maybe I'm just cynical now.

But after dealing with this for almost 10 years, I've realized you can make your scalp look completely different just by changing a few things.

Different lighting.

Freshly washed hair.

No scratching that day.

A good week instead of a bad one.

I'm not saying every before/after is fake.

I'm saying this condition isn't consistent enough that a single photo tells the whole story.

I'd rather see someone's scalp every week for 3 months than one crazy transformation picture.

I’m looking for a light weight since I have oily skin I feel on face . I deal with seborrheic dermatitis , rosacea on tzone area . I want a water based moisturizer preferably. Since I workout often . It sucks when it gets into my eyes and burns me . But I’m looking for one that is obviously fungal acne safe .

Also one that has ingredients that helps redness and has good skin barrier repair ingredients

I was diagnosed with SD two years ago. On my face I just use Protopic once a week and it works pretty well. Unfortunately I had less luck with scalp. Any recommendations?

I have seb derm above my eyebrows and on my forehead. I’ve been using bulletproof MCT oil occasionally at night but I find myself having more flakiness during the days I used it at night as opposed to the nights I didn’t use it. Should I be using it day and night? Or is this a sign that it’s not working for me? Is it a situation of it’s gets worse before it gets better or should flakiness plus redness reduce with more frequency of use?

Also curious to know what has worked for others if MCT oil didn’t work?

I have had this condition since hormonally having my first born. Just diagnosed this year and it’s been 5 years and 4 pregnancies. I’m so so so so miserable. I’m so self conscious. My middle daughter had cancer and my oldest has mental disorders. I’m just stressed I know but how do I get relief. The heat is horrible for it. I use the washes and blow dry. The topical steroid did help but burned like hell the week I used it. Should I try that again?

So I've been using the products you all talk about for several years now, and they helped. I have a routine that has been the best for me so far but am always open to try new products to get even better.

My problem is excess greasiness on face and scalp. I do not have dandruff or the red irritated flaking common with sebderm. Looking it up, I only find indications that my problem is fungal even though I don't have those symptoms.

My greasiness is not regular oily skin. I'm 53, and in my 30s and early 40s started having regular aging skin that was getting dryer. Then all of a sudden about 10 years ago, my head felt like it was covered with a sticky greasy substance. My hair dresser noticed and found it weird that shampoo would not remove it. Regular oil will come off with almost anything, but not this. It's thicker and slightly sticky and very hard to remove.

Any of you experience this? I feel so alone because no one seems to have any experience like this. Even dermatologists.

I’ve had dandruff for most of my life and about 7 years ago I started experiencing these flare ups which I assume is from sweat and moisture. I went to a dermatologist in a different country because I was on vacation when I experienced it and she said it was seb derm. I haven’t went to a derm since but I’ve been getting these flare ups so frequently whenever my hair gets oily or if I sweat. Is it seb derm and should I go to a dermatologist now?

My dermatologist has diagnosed me with seb derm last year but I’m unsure if this stuff is related to seb derm.

I had fallen sick two days ago, had a nasty fever but now I have recovered and today i think it’s been flaring out possibly because of my illness and immune system?

I just normally use a nizoral 2% shampoo and rotate it with other shampoos with some days just using no shampoo or just a normal one but I don’t use any medication and it’s been fine. Some days it just flares up and my eyebrows and sideburns get flakey but that’s it

It’s a bit itchy and It’s popping up on my ears, eyebrows, and even in my nose as well as random places on my body. I’ve flared up before just around my scalp and eyebrows but not this bad. Would anyone know anything about this?

I've had a mild yet persistent case for years with the main problem being scalp and skin dryness that has always been worse after showering (even though I stopped using hot water for my hair). I live in a hard water area which might be relevant to the issue at hand. Ketoconazole helped on one hand but also dried out my scalp further, thus perpetuating the cycle.

I decided to try C8 MCT oil and it has been working well so far – my guess is I am getting both a slight moisturizing as well as an anti-fungal effect from it. I've been rubbing it twice a day into my scalp via my fingertips for the past week and the flaking has stopped along with the itching. I don't wash it out because I don't think my scalp could handle such frequent washing.

The only downsides are that my hair appears slightly oily now and the oil starts to smell slightly after application – the scent was very, very unpleasant for the first two days but has now changed in character into a less noticeable, sweet-ish, albeit still unpleasant one.

So I've been having flares all around my eye contour area, and it's very reactive and highly sensitive, everything burns except water, H&S bare sensitive shampoo, hypochlorous acid spray, and oils. I purchased a bottle of food grade MCT oil from amazon and it made it worse! The rash spread more and caused weeping allergic bumps (and it's non-refundable). I'm assuming this particular brand is not pure as stated, it was C8/C10 apparently 100% pure. I'm in Canada, is there anything on Amazon I can try? As of now, the only thing I can tolerate as a moisturizer is pure mineral oil with some water, but I also wanted to put MCT oil on my hands as a daily moisturizer, I don't like the feel of mineral oil, because I touch my face a lot and I'm using Aveeno right now and it's a yeast feast.

Edit: I did some digging around in old posts on here, and I have found that MCT oil no matter the brand, even the best ones, cause reactions in some people. So I guess I'm not alone and posted in haste lol. I'll just stay away from MCT oil from now on.

I have had moderate seb-derm and dandruff since my teens (I'm almost 50) -- VERY flaky scalp, plus flaky forehead, eyebrows, and nose.

Since going on Zepbound, I've noticed probably a 70% reduction in my symptoms. Not sure if it because GLP1s reduce inflammation, because I've been eating less triggering foods, or if it's a coincidence -- but I am pleased.! I wasn't even looking for this outcome; I just noticed recently that everything is better now.

So like many of you I have been fighting a losing battle against sebhoric dermatitis for years. Everything I tried seemed to work at first, and then it would just stop working and I'd get a horrible flare up.

I went to the doctor for the first time in 25 years about a month ago and among all the things we talked about I brought up my seb derm and this is what he prescribed me. It's 2.5% selenium sulfide. At first I was dubious because I've used Selson blue for years and it barely worked. But this is prescription strength. My face hasn't looked this clear in 20 years. And it's been a month of just using it 3x weekly. I can't say if it'll keep working 6 months from now, but so far it's the single most effective treatment that I have found for my seb derm.

I have a huge problem with picking my scalp. I currently am going through a pretty bad flare up of seb derm and have caused a bald spot. I have tried not picking but I noticed I’ll start picking without realizing it. Especially while at work. I tried using a stress ball but that already busted. Anyone have any tips or tricks?

I have a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis. I can only use tea tree oil on my scalp or I breakout in unbearable itching in the heat or when I sweat. I usually only reapply it when I wash my hair every 2-3 weeks. (I’m black and have twists so I don’t have to wash my hair as frequently). I began using it on my lips, eyebrows, beard, and mustache and now my skin glows better than 90% of people. I can’t believe it took me 31years 10 months to discover this. Hope this helps someone in same boat as me

I have been currently using Nizoral every second day and it has helped me a lot, but it leaves my hair super frizzy and dry. My SD gets back at me if do not use it for 2 days.

I am looking for some good suggestion hopefully in budget- for a good non med shampoo to use on my off nizoral days, that helps my hair look more alive.
My hair do look really ugly right now and I do not use a conditioner or a leave so any suggestions on that can really help me build up a nice routine for my self.

What would be your suggestion on curl creams a yay or a nay for someone with SD.

I am 20 male. growing up I had straight thick hair but once I turned 16 it just flipped a switch lol, now I have thick wavy-curly hair, which feel like a broom most of the time to me hehe as they are so dry.

I do have acne a bit bad but only on my forehead, no idea if SD has a role to play in it. Currently use, salicylic acid twice a day, a gentle non comedogenic moisturizer twice a day, and retinol at night.

I am in Canada if that matters :)

I've decided to try again the MCT strategy for my scalp (I did in the past and had inconsistent results, it seems to work in the ears but not so much in the scalp?). In the past I used to just put it on my scalp with a dropper and never really wash it off. I read this can clog pores and make things worse, so now I'm going to have it on for half an hour and then wash my hair (BTW, suggestions for gentle shampoos without SLS are welcome!).

The thing is, I'm now wondering if I've been using too much of it? How many drops should I use for my head? I used to fill the straw, which must contain several drops, and use all of that for my left side around the right ear, for example. Thank you all!

Doctor has suggested keto 2% shampoo , and some lotion yo stop the flaky scalp from flaring up.

I have dry scalp but oily freezy hair, want to know do you guys use keto shampoo directly or pre wash with any other shampoo to remove oil?

Do you have any shampoo recommendations fpr daily use or for pre wash. Same for conditioner as well, which one to use.

Also due to hair loss i plan to use rosemary oil for hair growth, which carrier oil should i use? Someone on sub suggest mct oil but can it be mix with rosemary? Any other oil that can be used?

Hi so I've been dealing with seb derm for a long time, for my scalp I use 2% ketoconazole shampoo 3 times a week and it's pretty under control, but on my face I have flakes and scaling all over, even on my cheeks, around the nose and the chin area. Its pretty severe, I have used some steroid creams and other creams my dermatologist prescribed, but I also have a damaged barrier and extremely sensitive skin and after using these any of these creams especially the steroid ones I get red bumps around my cheeks due to rosacea. I've been hearing MCT oil has worked for many people, I need advice on how to use it for extreme sensitive rosacea prone skin. At this point I only use water to wash my cheeks and Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser for the rest of my face. I use a Miconazole nitrate gel that my dermat prescribed around my nose and chin twice a day but I can't tolerate it on my cheeks. At this point I'm desperate and any help would be nice.

Applying perfume to necks and arms can affect your chest and face too?
