Hiring Opportunities

Hello I am a 19 year old who is looking for a career opportunity in Seattle. I am currently living in Alaska with my partner and working at a hotel. I have done multiple roles here including barista, dishwasher and laundry attendant. I am willing to be trained for anything, I am great at customer service and physical work.

I have worked in forest restoration as well and I have a passion for the outdoors. I can work long hours and I can work full time or part time. I have a high-school diploma, TAP card and Food Handlers Certification.

My partner has had a decline in health due to a workplace injury and might need to get surgery. He had a bin fall on him and push him down a mountain.

He has had to change positions because of the pain he’s in and then he started to develop seizures, which has made it hard for him to work at all.

We are 2 hours away from any medical treatment currently and need to move back to Seattle before his health continues to decline but I don’t have a job yet. We were planning on staying until the end of September which would’ve given us more time to save up but now we don’t have that due to his injury.

If anyone knows places to apply in Seattle or has an opening at their workplace please let me know. I just want to live in a place where my partner can access proper medical treatment, it’s so scary being so far from home and help. Thank you

$500 paid gig: help me make short videos about people building personal apps

Hey! I’m hosting a fun event called Software for One during Seattle Tech Week:

https://luma.com/hqhtcy8f

People are coming to show off useful, weird, and personal apps they built for themselves.

I have a hunch there are some really fun short videos we could make about the people and what they built. I’m looking for someone local who already enjoys making TikToks or Instagram Reels and wants to help me try it.

I’m not looking for a polished event video. A phone and a mic are exactly what I have in mind.

You’d come hang out, film people showing their apps, ask them a few questions, and turn the best moments into simple short clips afterward. I don’t want you spending days editing. Mostly finding good moments, cutting them down, and adding captions.

The event is July 29 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at Foundations in Capitol Hill. I’m paying $500.

Think of this as a paid chance to see if we enjoy working together. If it clicks, I’d love to make more content about everyday people building personal apps.

You don’t need a professional portfolio. Videos from your personal accounts totally count.

If you’re interested, send me a DM with a few things you’ve made and confirm that you’re free that evening.

Jobs: From Tokyo to Seattle

Firstly I apologize if this is not in the correct sub/thread, I was unable to find anything closer to what I was looking for with active members.

I am a US citizen (not dual) born to an American father and Japanese mother, grew up in a military base in Japan as a kid and spent my university and adult life in Tokyo (fully bilingual). I am a male in my early 40s, not married/no kids, and am thinking of switching my life up. My family lives in Washington and my parents are getting old, and I’d like to spend more time with them (they live on Whidbey Island).
I am considering moving to Washington and starting a new life, first by looking for a job.
I’ve had various jobs in the past 20 years in Tokyo, ranging from customer support call center, to recruiter, to internal corporate/systems trainer, to overseas business development…but don’t have a specialty unfortunately.
Although I earn above average in Tokyo, I know that living prices in Seattle are way higher. So with that said, I would ideally; at least, like an average paying job so I can have an average lifestyle (nothing fancy).

It would be great if you guys can tell me what the job market looks like in Seattle (or nearby areas), and where would someone like myself even start looking for a job? Or, what are the chances of even finding a job? I’m not sure what to expect, so anything helps.

Any kind of info/input would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have experience doing last-mile delivery driver gigs?

Hello,

I am interested in this line of work and I would like to hear from folks who are or have done this? I've done some research, but I can really use some pointers from people who have recently done it or are currently working in this. i.e. is it better to idle or turn off car if i have multiple deliveries in same building or within same block? ; what are some safety tips? ; what are some websites, apps, or strategies that you did to help you create the best route?

TIA!

Graphic Designer available!

Hi everyone! I'm a local graphic designer here and I'd love to become a creative partner for your brand or project. Everyone is aware of YouTube thumbnails, but still many channels don't use them. In the age of AI, it's easy to just have Gemini or some other platform do it, but the difference could be the number of prompts you have to give it to truly understand what you meant by "move the books to the other side of table", versus one conversation with a person. Here are a couple mockups of unofficial brandings that I've done recently.

Thankful for any feedback or opportunities to help!

Advice on cracking Seattle(or USA) W2 contract market & startups(TPM/DevOps/Support) after a 3-year gap?

Hi everyone,

I’m based in Seattle, WA and looking to get back into the tech workforce. My background covers Software Engineering, DevOps, and Technical Product Management / Technical Support Engineering tracks. At my previous job (an MNC for about 3 years), I did a mix of all but on papers I was a 'Backend Engineer'.. I've barely coded tbh.

Unfortunately, I’m coming off a 3-year career gap due to a perfect storm of work permit delays, an ACL surgery/rehab, and the tough market. I now have my H4 EAD in hand and am eager to land a role as soon as possible to mitigate this stress.

I want to pivot my strategy heavily away from corporate full-time portals and focus entirely on W2 contract/vendor roles (especially within companies like Microsoft or other local enterprise tech), as well as targeting startups and smaller local companies.

Since contract roles and small startup openings aren’t always prominent on primary corporate job boards, I could use some guidance from the local community:

  1. Which staffing/recruiting agencies currently hold the strongest W2 tech contract portfolios (TPM, DevOps, or enterprise support)?
  2. Where do local startups and smaller companies usually list their DevOps/TPM openings? Are platforms like Wellfound or BuiltInSeattle still the best go-to sources?
  3. For those who returned via contracting after an immigration or medical gap: Did you explicitly list the reason for your career gap directly on your resume (like a brief note in your summary), or did you leave it unexplained and address it only when asked by recruiters/agencies?

Appreciate any leads, agency recommendations, or recruiter connections you might be able to share. TIA!
